THE COMPLETE, DETAILED AND COMMENTED, SOLUTION
http://goo.gl/7Ilca

Hello again! Yesterday I created a new steam group for my cause:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/thecoopinitiative

Notice that joining that group has nothing to do with participating in my giveaways.
The Co-Op initiative is a group I created with the objective of having a LOT of co-op players join it. My long-term wish is to have a strong, big group where it is easy to set up co-op matches in various games (even those kinda old ones).

Wanna give your support? Join the group!
Need co-op people to play with? Join the group!
Do you lack that nice group with nice good people? Join the group!

Puzzle giveaway time!
Today I will be giving away Risen.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/40300/

It may not be the BEST GAME EVAH but its free, so why not try to get it?
I like puzzles so, to make things a little more interesting, I created one. It might be not as hard as other puzzles, but I can't measure it against others because my puzzles are done my style.
The private giveaway link is located in a text file. To get that text file you will need to get a .rar file that is obtained by correctly answering the istoohard puzzle. That rar file has many protections: to get the txt at the end you will need to do a lot of things, but there are ALWAYS CLUES to each step, so look carefully in every section of the puzzle to find those clues.

ENTER THE PUZZLE (fixed version v2, previous rar files had an error):

Well it's less than an hour now. All that effort and all that wasted time was for nothing. Congrats to the winner. I have no idea how you did that. And for thanks to TheSteamDude for really awesome puzzle.

Darn, if only time would have been extended. Anyway, this was really great. Definitely worth all the time I wasted on it.

It is over now. Only one entrant to the giveaway, and obviously he won! I will post the detailed solutions for ALL the riddles soon.
I will be making another puzzle soon. It will be a much bigger and complex puzzle, but you will have a LOT of time to solve it (an ENTIRE WEEK or a bit more than that).

See you!

"The file names insde OPEN THIS.rar aren't encrypted, so you can see a VYrUep.ogg file."

Neither WinRar 4.2 nor 7zip 9.2 showed me the contents. Both prompted for the password first, and showed nothing if the proper password wasn't used. Now I don't feel so bad getting stuck at that point, haha.

What program did you use?

Edit: I see that there's a fixed rar, which DOES show the contents correctly, and I'm a derp, haha doh.

Another edit: For your next puzzle, please remember that some people are colorblind. That is all.

So upset at myself over #13. I had that one, but never tried it as a single word (which is odd, since I tried both single and multiple word combinations for most of my other answers). Probably would have gotten 14 as well. The ones after, however, would have been far beyond me though. Still, great puzzle. Can't wait for the next one.

lol i never even got to the rar file because i wrote 'open your soul' instead of 'openyoursoul' with all of these riddles i probably wouldn't have gotten to the end though

This puzzle was far beyond me. o_O

I'm still a bit confused even with the solution you posted. :(

I think your next puzzle will cause me to die by brain aneurysm. :(

This.

Also for your next puzzle please make some rules how the answers should be written, like every answer in lowercase and no spaces for example... would have helped a lot of people I assume ;-)

The questions related to Metal Gear Solid are easily solved if you are a fan, but solvable even if you never had any contact with the series. Google makes it easy for you if you use quotes.

Oh bloody 'el, that really was amazing. Anyway, I still didn't quite understand why sometimes the password didn't work... I was stuck at the 11th one because it won't accept "stevejobs"

That one is actually two words, not one (at least it was for me), so it would have been "steve jobs" instead of "stevejobs".

Or if you did have it the right way, another issue (which I encountered on the other half of #11) could have been the file name's length. Windows limits file path length to about 260 characters, so if you were extracting each folder, then by puzzle #11 the path name would have been too long (c:/my doc/name/my docs/firstpuzzle/openthis/continueit/ etc..)

The correct password for that riddle was "stevejobs". Maybe WinRAR did not count spaces, but the specified password should work. A problem that many experienced was that they reached the maximum number of characters for their windows filepath. This can be solved by either renaming the folder or simply dragging the current folder to the Desktop or another directory. WinRAR won't let you extract the file if you have reached the maximum length for your filepath, what might lead people to think that the password is wrong.

With 7-Zip "stevejobs" does NOT work, but "steve jobs" does.

I compressed all the RAR files using WinRAR, so its safer to use that exact software. I will always use the same program to encrypt all password-protected files in future puzzles.

How does the clue for #12 (jungle, snakes, etc.) lead to the answer "phoenix"?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Phoenix is a word hidden in that clue (written in a very very light color). The snake thing is a false clue.

Ahhh, yes, I can't see that unless I look at the LCD from a low angle, thanks for the clarification!
I did do a flood fill in Microsoft Paint on the background of that pic and it did show something there, but not clear enough to make out (flood fill in Paint does not appear to be adjustable like it is in Gimp and I don't have Gimp installed on this PC). But all it took was moving my head to a lower angle and I could see it without any special tricks.

You didn't mention the meaning of the 227580 number in the last clue, but it appears that this is the appID of the 10,000,000 game on Steam.
