*My Timelie achievement times are wonky because I think Steam was having intermittent brainfarts during the last hour or so of playing Timelie (viewing Steam profile looked like this during that time and clicking achievement pages even in browser just made it load forever). That or my internet connection was crapping out. Either way, provided the few screenshots I have for Timelie as well.

I can't recommend NOT playing INDUSTRIA enough. It has the worst optimisation I have ever seen, the gameplay was simply not good, there were glitches everywhere (and I haven't even met some of the spicier ones from what I've heard). The only positive I can say is that it's fairly short, lol.

It's going to be a short month for me with work and the holidays but I've been slacking so let's go!!
I have no idea what I'll play because I wanted to finish ACV this month but I guess the final patch will have to wait.
Let's throw some short ones in and see what happens...
Not much to say so far.
I am sad to say I was a little disappointed in The Turing Test after running after it for so long. The gameplay ended up way too repetitive and the story was not exactly groundbreaking. With the amazing reviews, I was expecting more from it maybe, I dunno.
Police Stories was fun but short. I will probably play it some more in co-op over the holidays because the AI was just too dumb to really enjoy the partners aspect of the game.
Tsioque was cute. The puzzles were fairly easy but it was a cute game albeit in a darkish setting. I was hoping to play it with my niece but I don't know if it's going to be that fun for her and the bigger picture will escape her completely.
My favorite so far was The Textorcist. So funny and inventive gameplay... but damn so so hard toward the end. I almost gave up on beating the last boss and kinda lucked out right when I was about to just quit it altogether. I was hoping to 100% this one but seeing the achievements stats, maybe it's a bit unrealistic. I will try again though. Tons of fun.
A little disappointed by Lovecraft's Untold Stories. I found it very unforgiving and unrewarding. I will probably go back to it to try a run with the Professor and the others if I manage to unlock them but the gameplay is rather dull, when you think about the richness of the Lovecraft theme and the plethora of roguelite games who do way better with the genre.
Now that I spent a few hours in it, I'm less surprised by how low the stats are for the achievements. Oh well.
Raji was a very pretty game. Not ground breaking in gameplay, really, it kinda feels like Old School Prince of Persia with gorgeous graphics and well? Indian mythology (although it feels more like being in class than learning through gaming) but it was good enough for a few hours. Combat can be tough on the last boss if you crank up the difficulty setting but not unbearably so.
Looks like I'll have to replay it to get that achievement since it didn't unlock properly. But I'll wait a while. Not a game I feel like replaying right away.
Game | Date | Playtime | Achievements | Status |
---|---|---|---|---|
Raji: An Ancient Epic | November 2022 | 5h / HLTB (4h) | 20 / 21 | Beaten (Achievement: Raji and Golu) |
Lovecraft's Untold Stories | February 2021 | 5.8h / HLTB (5h) | 6 / 35 | Beaten (Achievement: True Detective) |
The Turing Test | May 2017 | 5h / HLTB (5h) | 10 / 15 | Beaten (Achievement: Game Complete) |
Police Stories | March 2022 | 7.3h / HLTB (4h) | 20 / 39 | Beaten (Achievement: Police Story) |
TSIOQUE | November 2020 | 3.2h / HLTB (3h) | 31 / 31 | Completed (Achievement: And they lived happily ever after...?) |
The Textorcist | October 2021 | 6.5h / HLTB (4h) | 24 / 40 | Beaten (Achievement: The Gates of Hell) |

Tsioque was cute. The puzzles were fairly easy but it was a cute game albeit in a darkish setting.
The dark element is not surprising since it is the same dev as Tormentum which I just found out is getting a sequel.
If you are looking for a p&c to play with your niece, Daedalic games are generally safe bets. The Whispered World and Anna's Quest would be my picks but it depends on the child so best to look into it beforehand. King's Quest is a lot of fun and Broken Age is solid though I hate the knot puzzle with a passion. Normally I would recommend Wadjet Eye games when it comes to p&c but I doubt if any of them would be appropriate for a child.
If you are open to non-p&c games, Never Alone is worth looking at, though depending on the age, co-op may not be as fun for you :p.

Tormentum looks awesome!
I haven't played Anna's Quest yet or The Whispered World but I remember Broken Age fondly and I still haven't replayed it to try to unlock the missing achievements so that would be a good one. And yes I do remember the knot puzzle, as well as a couple others who made me question my sanity.
Normally I would recommend Wadjet Eye games when it comes to p&c but I doubt if any of them would be appropriate for a child.
I looooved the Blackwell game but yeah I don't think even those, and even less the others would be something I'd play with her. Not yet anyway.
though depending on the age, co-op may not be as fun for you :p.
Heh trust me, it's not all about age. I had to drag my sister through The Cave and she's my twin :P
She just isn't a very able platformer so I had to switch controllers a few times
Thanks for the tips. We've been playing Lost Worlds this week but I'm always happy to get more suggestions. Kids aren't always easy to play with.

Well in that case:

JumpJet Rex might be a little bit too hard for her but Chariot definitely is a great idea (and it's been collecting dust in my backlog for too long).
I had a blast with the previous Max game (not on Steam) and this is another one I think she'll enjoy that's been gathering dust in my backlog.
I didn't know Tadpole Treble but definitely adding it to my wishlist for later.
Note: Only if you want to fill your niece's childhood with pure frustration. It has been nearly 30 years and the Rug Ride level still haunts me in my sleep.
Bwahaha! I think I did rage quit at that point! That video gives me cold sweats. Ah Disney!

Very good surprise with The Bard's Tale IV & Call of the Sea this month.
A small remark for Call of the Sea however there is only one puzzle that requires a good reflection, the others remain quite basic and just require observation but observation in a sumptuous decor.

All the best in the new year CJ.
Okay, but quite a bit repetitive (and also eye candy Shelob is just ugh), thankfully I loved the Nemesis system, truly a great feature. 7/10
I do like games/movies/books set on ships and this setting works quite well with horror. Story is of course ridiculous but that's what you should expect from Resident Evil. I recently played the remake of the first Resident Evil game and I loved it, this one is just okay-ish. 6/10
Resurgence of boomer shooters caught me by surprise but I'm glad it did happen. Forgive me father mixes lovecraftian vibes in their cell shaded glory with fast paced gunplay (with some light rpg elements). I had much fun finishing it and I'm already mid my second playthrough 8/10
Really interesting story. Not often video games take on the issue of motherhood, losing a child etc and even rarer in the horror genre. I'm not a parent myself so it probably didn't struck me as much as it could, but I tried to put myself in the place of the heroine (magnificently voiced by Alix Wilton Regan). And that's probably a good thing anyway, we should experience/open up to art that gives voice to some other perspective than our own. I also enjoyed the mix of some saharan folklore and heavy SF elements. 8/10
I liked how Inside narrates its story by only visual means. A lot of puzzle pieces to put together but I enjoyed it. 8/10
I have a soft spot for these games. It is nostalgia for sure, as it reminds me of my highschool years (which were great) but it also pulls out a decent job of portraying highs and lows of fresh relationship. 8/10

Copy pasta.
Hello and welcome to the madness!
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.
The prize: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.
Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add you on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.
FAQ:
Why you doing this?
I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for over seven years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.
I've played the first X minutes of a game, can I pick it for the event?
No. You cannot have any play time or achievements prior to the start of the event. The only exception is idle time from farming Steam cards.
Can I play a MP only game?
No. It needs to have an "end" in order for me to count it as beaten, so it needs to have a campaign/story mode.
If a game was sold as a non-Steam copy in a bundle (origin/uplay/drm-free/etc), can I pick it as a choice if I own a Steam copy?
No. The reason being that those who own a Steam copy would have an extra option that would not be available to everyone who bought the same bundle. If the game was originally sold as a non-Steam copy, but Humble later provided steam keys to everyone who bought the bundle, then the game would be allowed.
Why six games?
The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.
How long are you going to do this?
Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.
This event "ends" on January 3rd when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time.
Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and I could have swore we did this already..
