I tried Dark Souls 2 a while back, but couldn't play the game because it kept telling me to press something, but it only showed me the controller keys and not keyboard keys which meant I had no idea what they wanted me to press. I mashed all my keyboard keys and nothing seemed to do the trick.
I had to lookup online for a chart that showed me the keyboard controls and the corresponding controller buttons. But the whole experience was soured for me by that annoying detail.

Now that Dark Souls 3 is in the monthly bundle at humblebundle, I am tempted to get it, but only if they actually have keyboard control displayed on the screen this time instead of console. Can someone who has the game please tell me if its been changed or is it the same as Dark Souls 2?

None of the games of the souls series are made with a keyboard in mind, but you can play DS3 with a keyboard without any issues. But believe me, you don't really need the command prompt as long as you learn what key is used for what. But, if you really want the keyboard icons so badly, you can look for a mod on nexus, there are plenty of those (also for DS1 and DS2).

Translation: DS3 is the same in this regard, but you can mod both games to show the actual keyboard buttons instead of peasant stick squibbles.

EDIT: Here it is for DS3:

Mods are allowed in Dark Souls and wont get me an online ban or anything right?

Yes, we are recommending them to you because we want to get you VAC banned.

sigh
They are just button replacers. Only Valve is banning people for texture mods, and not because it is an advantage but because they are making money from texture mods. In reality it takes a special kind of stupidity or a mixture of bad luck and suboptimal cheating to trigger any kind of ban.
(Or a dev ensuring that the people hooked on his game get banned for made-up reasons, so they will rebuy the game. coughPUBGcough)
Heck, I have used and still using CheatEngine on a VAC protected game but Valve never managed to get the clue.

When you go into Controls in DS 3, it lists commands for both a gamepad AND kb. I agree it can be appalling at first for some, but once you learn where is what, it's a no-brainer.

I played both with keyboard and mouse. DS3 was much more user friendly and generally it felt like it was easier to control than DS2.
