Help me out here - are bundles released on a regular cycle? How does that work? I've never really paid all that much attention so I'd be thankful for any info.

It's usually Tuesdays at 2PM EST. But they've been a bit more varied lately IMO, with some recent ones dropping later in the week.

right now, bundles "should" come out every tuesday at 7 GMT.
Roughly once a month, there's no bundle, and maybe once every three months there's a bundle released at an odd time.

I feel this is the way it should always work when a game is released on different platforms. I would be ok to pay a little extra for the convenience of having access to multiple platforms but I'm usually not ok with paying for the game twice. Microsoft is actually bringing things in the right direction with their Play Anywhere titles regardless their motives

Microsoft is kinda headed in the right direction but their stuff is win 10 only, at least steam works with pretty much any windows version + mac + linux. Feels a bit more future proof to me.

Sure, if I buy new hardware. But at this point I think that it's more likely that I'll just build a new PC when this one can no longer take it anymore and there's no real point for me to ever move from win 7 with this setup, so I won't switch to win 10 untill my next PC.
