Out of all the good and bad things Notch has done, his worst is starting the fad of procedurally generated worlds that are lame all around.

It's a good concept, but it needs to be nicely executed (Minecraft, some roguelites, maybe now Starbound) but there's a ton of examples of where it's failed.
And yeah, procedural generation has been this year's superhero movies for a while.

Well, in Minecraft you always have something to do and always find useful stuff in the area, so it is always interesting.

Minecraft had at least some very nice and varied biome generator despite it's blocky look. Sadly No Man's Sky planets looks like plain height map with some caves here and there.
I do believe it's possible to make amazing things with procedural generation as long as the devs(maybe wit the help of some artists) spend a lot of time refining the result over many passes and not just throw it as the end it all.

"You are on a green planet with green trees and green dinosaurs." I hope that they are different shade at least :( The game looks nice, can't really say if I'd play it through multiple times though(if it can be played though, if not then 'play for excess amount of hours').

Game haven't launched yet, so I can't really give any opinion about it.

It has for PS4, they get to play early because of Sony sponsorship

I know, you really can't go by not noticing all the vids about it, but I have skip them all. PC version is all I care.
At least PC version is getting day one patch containing lot's of updates compared to the preview version and as I heard they are adding more stuff to the game along the way.
So, I'll wait and see what it brings and if I'm interested enough, I'll buy it.

I didn't, but it's nice to talk about it. By the way, did you see the idiot suing WB and DC for the Suicide Squad movie? rofl.

I don't get the hype for this game itself tbh ...Procedurally generated things? Try them roguelikes. Travel in space? There's so many space games in so many forms I don't know where to begin. Dinos? Eh, get in line.
What, exactly is so special about this game in particular?

I'm glad you got what you are looking for, then. I'm just sad for the people that read (too much?) into what the devs say. I mean, once the day 1 problems TM are ironed out, it will be at least a decent game, maybe not worth 60$ but whatever, that's for each one to decide.

Is that a suprise tho? Did people really expect a bazillion unique planets to explore? Everyone who has played one or two games that are procedurally generated should know that content will repeat itself sooner or later. The hype was so worthless to begin with.

Procedural generation is such a buzzword nowadays. Reminds me of the boxed copy of Loki which mentioned millions of item(combinations) and even said which slots are available. Even as a kid I realized item combinations are a super cheaty thing to rely on - Diablo 2 had 10 item slots. If there are 10 items for each slot, that's already 10^10 item combination, while the game obviously lacks variety.
Now change equipment slots to variables at planet generation. It may be a good and enjoyable game for what it can offer, but despite of the developer's communication, variety seems the weakest point as proc. generation makes the "pools" pretty obvious after a few occurence.

I was pretty excited about this game when I heard about it a few months ago.
I've seen some gameplay and reviews now, looks like single player Ark + space. Inventory size is ridiculously small.
Farm to improve things to farm more things. I really thought they were advertising this as an MMO too.
This game had huge potential, I'm very disappointed.
I am glad the PC release got delayed.. I was off work yesterday and today, probably would have purchased it if it released on the 9th.
I will not be buying this game unless it gets bundled/drops below $20.

No Multiplayer, eh? Well, store page on steam says nothing about multiplayer and I don't think it ever did.
For me personally that's a bonus. I don't like multiplayer, it just attracts the wrong kind of people, but yeah,
that's just me. As for bugs and stuff, I suppose they can be fixed. I won't buy a game for 60€ anyway,
not even if it were the best game in the world. So while I wait for the price to drop, they got plenty of time
to fix the bugs, hehe.

In my opinion the best kind of multiplayer is when you can pick who do you want to play with. A server full with people, a few friend, a single one, or noone. Working for a common goal is awesome, but there is so much less fun when randoms can ruin one's game.

To tell the truth i was so sure that everybody will be dissapointed as usual, oh what a surpise.

The game turned out to be pretty much exactly what I was expecting it to be. I don't know why people had bloated expectations of it. In its current state I don't think its worth $60, so I won't be getting it yet, but after they release a few updates and it goes on sale, I'll be getting it then.

I feel like a real n00b now but which game is this?

Just to be fair...
1)Lets open steam page, and it says singleplayer, nothing about multiplayer.
2) well all games have bugs, bigger or smaller, if the first patch after the release wont fix them, thens the time to get worried =)
3)Ok, now you just broke my hopes =( Maybe closer to the center of the universe ? If not i think fan community will demand it...
4) Cmon =) What did you expect, its not like "everything we can imagine" it has to be plausible at lease =)
And yeah, i havent bought the game (yet) for the same reason, i think its a 40 bucks experience, but i can actually crack on the last day =))

So, one of the most overhyped games of the present milennia has finally released. And to the surprise of many of it's preorders it seems to outrageously fail to deliver on most of the promises done during its development
No multiplayer: while it was true that this seems to have never been a hardcore MP game (or so its defenders claim) the game seems to have no sorts of multiplayer whatsoever (I mean, unless you count as seeing L337 names on your space as multiplayer) which goes agains the multiple and reiterative promises Sean did.
To those claiming the game was never intended to be multiplayer in the first place http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-08-11-no-mans-sky-limited-edition-has-online-play-icon-hidden-under-sticker
Buggy mess Terrain clipping, exploits, take offs seem to be bugged as hell, with the ships having a weird tendency of hitting things out of its way. (Example of game breaking bugs https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4x1moy/gamebreaking_bug_redeeming_the_preorder_ship_at_a/

Ringed planets? Seems that Sean didn't like his own game, cos we all know that if you liked it then you should've put a ring on it.
Procedurally generated jillions of planets Like "slightly different" planets
Anyways, save 60 dollars and play this instead http://www.joshandjayshow.com/no-mans-sky-beta/
Same experience.
