I pretty much got used to sleeping without pillows on top instead now I hug my pillow, makes me wonder if I'll ever have someone to hug while I sleep.
So how do you sleep after a regular day?

Actually hugging or spooning someone else while sleeping has been shown to usually impede sleep some, because 1) you're used to sleeping alone, and 2) another person's movements while falling asleep/sleeping can wake you or cause discomfort. Not that it isn't okay for two people to sleep together. It's just seen as very natural and something you should do with your significant other, when that isn't necessarily true.

And chamomile is great before sleep, it relaxes you. Good for you too.

Yeah... I love the feel of falling asleep in my bf's arms but as I'm a troubled sleeper it makes it harder than usual to fall asleep and stay asleep. Unfortunate :(.

"Morning wood" is a completely normal scientific body process that has a real purpose in your body maintaining itself

edit: haaha nevermind, I misread that, you're saying you don't actually get to sleep, lol. I wouldn't worry too much, that's common too.

I'm not talking about morning wood. I'm talking about "trying to sleep while pressed up against someone you're physically attracted to wood". Sure it's perfectly natural but it makes it damn hard to sleep if that's your actual goal.

Diagonally or sprawled out across my double bed because I'm a spinster in the making. The rest of the time - big spoon, which I guess is a little strange.

There are distinct positional advantages to a woman being the bigger spoon at times. Besides, if it feels good one way, why wouldn't it feel just as good for your partner? I think people should ignore cultural memes & try it more often.

Define "Regular day".

I either sleep flat on my back with hands like a vampire, or on the side in the fetal position. No exceptions.

Curled into a ball, totally hidden under heaps and heaps of blankets pretty much all year 'round. Beneficial because 1) I'm nearly always cold, no matter the season and 2) people frequently mistake me for just a heap of blankets, and therefore can't find me to wake me up and bother me. Not even making that up. lol

When I was a teenager my mom called my friend all freaked out because she couldn't find me. When I came upstairs she screamed at me "WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?!"
Apparently she had sent my dad downstairs to see if I was sleeping and he didn't see me in the mass of blankets. She said she was a few minutes away from calling the cops.

Oh god, that's hilarious. I've had like 3 people (on the same day) go searching for me all over the house. Unfortunately, one of them was loud enough to wake me up, and I peeked out from under the blankets before I could think not to. The expression on their faces was priceless though. "There's no way someone could fit in such a small space... right?"

I don't like to sleep because when I lay in bed with nothing to do, I think too much and I often think about things I don't wanna think about and it's not good. Hence it's 7.46 am here and I haven't slept yet.

Here is a Tip:

Buy a CD Player with "Sleep" Function. It turns itself off after a time that you control, so that you can say 20 mins, 30 mins, 40 mins ,...
Then listen to an audiobook, best some fictional storys, because otherwise you have to think too much :)

It helped me alot, because before I couldn't sleep, too. And here's a fun fact: If I listen to a thriller then I have good dreams, if I listen to comedy, then I have nightmares xD

Of course you can try it out with a normal CD Player/Computer/Ipod,..., but after a time, when you use it often, you should have a sleep function so that the CD Player,... does not run the whole night and does not use expensive power^^

hope I could help you

I have tried this, for most its a great solution, for me...it does nothing sadly, then again I have been known to sit through whole movies and not pay attention the whole time because oh my thoughts.

Its insane, I should probably get help but most of the people in that line of work clash with my personality pretty badly...O_O.

Best I've been able to try there is to try to drop the logic filter on my thoughts -- essentially "pretend" to already be asleep and let my thoughts go as abstract (dream-like) as possible. It's closer to your mental state when being asleep and feels pretty similar, but if a logical or planning sort of thought creeps in (which is bound to happen), it throws you off a lot like the feeling of waking up in the middle of a dream.
Not thinking at all is another option, but I find the stream-of-abstract-consciousness to be slightly easier.
Either way, it still usually takes me at least a half hour to get to sleep, and often a lot longer.

I have tried everything, even when I pretend it doesn't seem to work, music can help me sometimes but its rare it actually does as of late.

I have a really great tip for you, that has kept me off sleep aids, and, after a bit of practice, can put me out in a matter of minutes:

You need to envision something tedious and detailed that you can sink yourself into, such as:

  • Building a computer from scratch
  • Dis-assembling/Re-assembling a firearm
  • Gathering your photography bag, including lenses, filters, etc
  • Gathering all the spices/ingredients needed for your favorite dish
  • Rebuilding a carburetor

Obviously, turn the lights off and close your eyes. Then, you start slow. Let's say #1 from above is your choice.

See yourself gathering the parts. The case. The power supply. The motherboard and CPU. The hard drive. The CD Drive. See yourself laying these parts out on a table. Don't get into specifics, just generic parts. Opening the case, installing the mobo, aligning it on the risers. See yourself seating..tivd

Fuk. I fell asleep. Ok, it works, go try this out.

Been doing this recently. After 2 days without a pillow, I just couldn't get back to having my head above body level. Now I just toss the pillow aside, and sleep with my face sideways.
