Mine would be Jak 2. I'm actually playing it now on the PS3, because I hate myself (and I already finished it many years ago on the PS2).

What's yours?

PLEASE NOTE! For the game to qualify, it must be a proper sequel - not a spinoff, spiritual sequel or something. I'd also appreciate if it's the first sequel in a series, though that's not entirely necessary.

(I didn't play through much of AC3 but it was hella worse than Brotherhood+Revelations)

Don't hide behind the "opinion" thing. You told that the first is a hell of a lot better and it's wrong for dozens of objective reasons. Tastes are a completely different thing.

I'm very sorry that we have clashing opinions.

Unless you have base fact that you can literally prove me wrong, and say with all truth that "Borderlands 2 is better than Borderlands 1", neither of us are wrong or right.

We just have different opinions.

You really can't see why someone would prefer 1 over 2? Seriously? Loot system alone would come to mind.

The stories better in 2, but come on many of us didn't play it for story.

Both have positives and negatives.

Comment has been collapsed.

Not really. I played both till I gotten bored of them and think Borderlands 2 is actually better.
Fyi, I don't have the season pass. I only have two story dlcs, namely Torgue's and Captain Scarlett's. For characters wise, I only have the additional pre-order bonuses.

I've played both for 40+ hours and Borderlands 1 is the only one I could reinstall at any time and replay all the way through while it still being fun.

Can you explain why Borderlands 2? It's better than the first one in almost everything (except backpack and vendor menus - they really suck indeed).

Like I said above, I just think it's a hell of a lot worse than the first one.

I've beaten both and Borderlands 1 offers me more actually fun content and replayability.

I actually liked borderlands 2 more. They experimented a bit more with the story telling, it's funnier ,the playability is the same ( which I hate in both ) and the characters are pretty good.I LOVE gaige,I love her and I love playing her,so maybe that's why I've enjoyed b2 more. Also I have the season pass and all the dlcs, and I must say "tiny tina's assault on dragon keep" is the best DLC ever made. The humour, the setting,EVERYTHING was fun and intriguing.
One thing i think they should've done better in both games is the weapon and damage physics.I mean you can always have the best weapons but still you don't feel powerful or like you're really doing damage.Maybe it has to do with the strange animations..Dunno..

Dragon Age II. After the Origin, which featured customizable character with 6 different backgrounds, epic & grand storyline, various environments and foes to face, Dragon Age II was a mess. Re-hash of maps, no exploration, very very limited environment, meh story. Also making friendly-fire impossible for mages got rid of strategic placing of characters. While I pause every time I get rid of an enemy in Origin, I paused around 5 times in the entire Dragon Age II playthrough.

Yeah I agree, Jak 2 and 3 are pretty cool.

Maybe somewhat flawed by todays standards in some areas (I dunno if wandering around the city so much was the games fault or mine for being a stupid kid at the time), but still pretty neat.

Permalink

I really haven't played ArcaniA myself, but I think it shouldn't be considered a proper sequel... Is not developed by the same guys and much important it doesn't have anymore the tag Gothic 4 in it (I think because Piranha Bytes kept back the rights to do the proper sequel).

It actually does. It's "ArcaniA: Gothic 4". It's a full and "proper" sequel. :p

Some times after Nordic have acquired JoWood, Arcania:Gothic IV was and actually is listed as only Arcania on the steam store. You can also see the new logo that doesn't have anymore the subtitle Gothic IV in there, here.
Also the collection is now listed as Gothic + Arcania Bundle, and not anymore Gothic Franchise.
To that, add that Piranha Bytes was heavily thinking about developing a new chapter of Gothic, and is currently in development of a game but cannot release any information (maybe, I guess, for legal reason due to the name of the franchise being contested).
Searching on the internet I only find things listed as Arcania: Gothic IV but they are all old commercial pages and you can see by yourself that they don't receive an update from a lot of time. Steam store seems the more reliable actually changing it at some point in time.

To be fair, I know it's developed as a sequel... the point is, think if someone starting writing Harry Potter 8 just because it have the right to do so... is a sequel, but only in the name.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It was developed as a sequel and released as a sequel, what happened afterwards may have changed the name but it's still a sequel.

To turn your phrase around, now it's a sequel in everything but name. :p

Final Fantasy 13. Glad I rented it instead of bought it, if I bought it I would have broken my copy and burned the remains. Filming it and sending a copy of the film to Square Enix.

As is I was not that happy with Final Fantasy 12. The combat is boring as hell. All you do is walk around while your characters kill things with no input from you. Not only that the only way to obtain the most powerful weapon in the game, the Zodiac Spear, was to have a guide book.

It involved NOT opening a large amount of chests in the game. Specific ones too. Not to mention the room that you get the spear, tons of chests in there, only one has it. If you open any of the wrong chests in the game. You get nothing when opening the correct chest. No way of knowing what chests not to open if you did not have a guide book..

EDIT
Another really bad sequel that deserves a mention. Masters of Orion 3. Terrible, just terrible.

X-COM: Apocalypse also deserves a mention.

I would say Masters of Monsters Disciples of Gaia but its hard to tell if its a sequel or just the PS1 version of the game. The Sega Genesis and the countless PC versions of the game where soo much better.

Well, I found that whole underground mining thing to be rather pointless, I found it a bit hard to find out where to go in some places, and I really don't care for that whole double battle thing...
Edit: OH RIGHT I forgot about this thing, but that whole "abilities" thing they added I suspect the gen before is so annoying, I just want my Pokemon to be the same dang it, I don't want your -10% Attack +5% Speed, if I did I'd just make them carry an item!

Unreal Tournament 3 (just a better looking version of UT2k4 with all the good things removed and replaced with...nothing), Mercenaries 2 (loved the 1st part on Xbox, the 2nd part was so messed up gameplay wise I couldn't believe it), and, to a degree, every Elder Scrolls game after Morrowind (MW was a huge promise, but instead of fixing its flaws they added even more flaws with every game, story and setting became more boring each time as well).

Mass Effect 3, Command and Conquer 4, Dragon Age 2.

Red Alert 3 / Uprising did not have aliens ( just replay those if you don't believe me ) and Command and Conquer main series always had the premise that someday the aliens might come ( the tiberium was spread when an alien spacecraft crashed on Earth - see the second Command and Conquer and C&C Renegade ).

All the NFS after the original Most Wanted ( exception is Carbon ), Diablo 3, Assasin's Creed 3 ( most uninspired main character in the series - the native american comes out as a self-righteous pri.k ), anything Call of Duty after MW, any Medal of Honor after Pacific Assault. Hell i could go on. Bottom line is that most of the sequels in a series are usually worse than the original or are getting worse soemwhere down the road
