Excellent idea, I just had to invite people to a private group and make a group only GA just for this one time, so a function like this would be great. But do you have any idea how hard it is to make such a button? >:E (Hey, your words, not mine!)

I thought your name looked familiar from somewhere but I couldn't place it, heh.

Like the idea! Would be a really cool addition to SG :)

It sounds like a neat idea, but I have a feeling it would be too much for our poor little server to handle.
The way I see it, it would require each of these giveaway to individually track who may or who may not enter the giveaway, and all that data would take up lots of resources. For example, giveaway 1 needs to remember that user 1, 2, and 4 may enter. Then on giveaway 2, it needs to remember that user 1, 3, 5 and 6 may enter, and the same thing applies with every giveaway on Steamgifts using this system, as opposed to Group or whitelist giveaways which uses one, big list for each category individually (and since groups and whitelist are basically working the same way, the whitelist is probably considered a "group" by the system).
Now, I don't know shit about servers and data and whatever. Can anyone who is knowledgeable about this topic confirm or deny my assessment?

Let's say there's about 50,000 GA's per month. Only some of those would use this idea, let's say 10%. So 5,000 GA's a month. If there's 25 allowed users on each GA, and each use ID can be up to 10000000. That's 24 bits per user. 24255000=3000000. So 3 MiB per month. And that's unoptimized and keeping all the data for a month. The performance impact would be minimal.

The easiest implementation of this would be to make it exactly like a whitelist GA, but whitelist is hooked to the GA itself. It would need a way for the GA creator to enter people who are allowed access to the GA, then the GA shows up on their groups tab, perhaps with some new icon other than a blue heart to make it noticeable.
I don't think any one part of this needs more than O(n) runtime complexity, so the demands on the server shouldn't be any different than existing whitelists. The larger problem would be tons of these temporary lists being in the historical DB records after they have served their purpose. Maybe a trade-off would be to auto-delete the access list and make GA page visible to anyone after the GA is over.

I think this is a great idea! :D
It would get rid of the need to create temporary groups on Steam for a one-time set of GAs.

Actually this would be nice - adding someone on Steam, or leaving a message on an old giveaway does the job, but not really the best way. It could be just a button like black/whitelist, and an option to share a *private* giveaway's link with the user, with no personalized message (This way it couldn't be used to harass/spam people)

It really is a fantastic idea. I currently use my whitelist for this, because using Steam groups is too much of a hassle (people have to sync their accounts, so the invite isn't immediate), but the biggest downside is that I can't have more than one giveaways running at the same time, because people who aren't supposed to enter the other one will do.

Brillant idea! Seriously, one of the best I've read under suggestions. Have a bump!

Have another bump!
and a crappy game: BM#IB-LK5QI-THV¢D # = second last letter of the alphabet ¢ = number below 1
To whoever takes the game: Please post. If you take the game without posting, may you be sexually frustrated for the next year.

If it's any consolation, it was really just a +1 library booster of dubious quality with no cards that is included in the current dollar bin at Bundlestars, so you're not really missing out.
Well, I do invite anyone who feels like it to "activate" the used code: BMYIB-LK5QI-THV0D and have Steam send an email to the silent ninja to remind him of his sexual frustration :)
