Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is pretty dang fun, with some good music and a really enjoyable story (especially if you like the Legend of Zelda franchise.)
People have mentioned Machinarium here. Other games by Amanita are also good: Samorost 2 is a little dated, mechanics-wise, but Botanicula is just great (and great music, again.)
Gemini Rue (like many Wadjet Eye Games products) is well-liked--not a lot of good sci-fi point-and-click games imo, much less such noir ones--and these are the same folks behind the Blackwell series. They also made Resonance, Primordia, Puzzle Bots, and (I think) Da New Guys, which is on Desura and pretty hilarious.
Don't forget Ben There, Dan That! and Time Gentlemen, Please! These are ugly as sin but fantastically well-written, very funny pieces.
The Sea Will Claim Everything is another game available on Desura, and it's very bizarre. Unique, definitely.
Speaking of unique, there's TRAUMA. It's one of those artsy-types, but it tells a decent story and it uses real photographs. You move around similar to Myst.
There's also the Deponia series, which I've heard only great things about. That studio made that Edna & Harvey game, but I couldn't get past the opening trailer, I was too annoyed.
I've heard somewhat good things about Emerald City Confidential, can't speak to them myself.

Careful with Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP.
I got it recently in the Humble Bundle. There is something about my graphics card that makes this game really angry. And after googling it, there are a lot of other people that have had that issue.
Just make sure that you don't have one of the graphics cards that make it angry. =)

I agree with Gemini Rue and the rest about Wadjet Eye Games completely. Pity that the groupees bundle is over.

Monkey island is my favorite, its funny, and it has sort of a deep story behind all that sillyness.

If you want to disgust him of adventure games, that's certainly a good game to pick.
Honestly, this game is terrible. It basically combines everything that is bad in the point-and-click adventure game genre.
The characters are bland (with a special mention to the protagonist) and not so funny, (most of) the puzzles are illogical and infuriating and the pixel hunting is incredibly frustrating as well.
Basically, all Pendulo Studios games range from mediocre to meh and should (must?) be avoided in my opinion.

To each their own I guess, but I would never call their games enjoyable.
I managed to finish The Next Big Thing and Yesterday which probably means that the quality of their games has improved because I just couldn't bring myself to do so with Runaway, but I wouldn't call them good regardless.
I don't really know why I purchased Yesterday actually (I blame the discussions on the community hub), but I'm sure that was the last game I buy from them...

If someone seriously calls Diablo a point-and-click then I believe this guy needs to google once again. I believe you COULD call those point and click in a way just because you are pointing and clicking... But I think most people consider this to be point-and-click adventure

Which guy needs to Google what? Also, you said that most people consider "this" to be a point and click adventure. What is this? Are you saying Diablo is a point and click adventure? That's crazy. It's a point and click RPG. It doesn't have elements of the adventure genre.

No, he means most people consider "point-and-click" to mean "point-and-click adventure", and I tend to agree.
I have never seen the term "point-and-click" used for anything else honestly.
For me, Diablo is a hack-and-slash game and that's it.

Three different things:
Point and click - an input method
Point and click adventure game. A sub-genre.
