Why are comments containing referral links not removed / eddited when a user is suspended?

As above.

The comment I have seen in particular was in a giveaway and it even had a member of the support team commenting under it saying that the user posting it has been suspended.

Yet, the referral link still remains in the post, allowing the user to 'profit' from others clicking on it.

Is this because the support members are unable to edit / remove comments? (to prevent any potential abuse of powers?)

IIRC, you are right, and they are unable to remove / edit comments. I believe only CG has the ability to do so.

Afaik only the admin can edit and delete posts. (At least one of cg's screenshots shows this).

The regular support doesn't have power to delete comments.

If you have sg plus, I believe people with "support" tags do not have post deletion power, but people with "mod" tags do. I know that crossbourne can delete posts.
