When I played with controller on consoles and didn't know about PC Gaming, it was just normal, never had any problems, however never played any CoD or other multiplayer FPS games on consoles, so don't know if it was precise or not, just single players, but after you try something better and adapt to it, the previous one feels awful, same otherwise when you play racing games without controller.

Also some ppl play FPS games on android/iOS with the touch screen, this is even worse imo.
I see some Youtubers playing FPS multiplayer games only on consoles, and they're very fast and good even with sniper rifle, they say the PS3 controller stick is better, more precise, so they have custom Xbox 360 controllers with PS3 sticks.

I have no problem beating the accuracy of some friends in the rare online games I play. L4D2 even tells me just how much worse they were with hitting the target despite their mouse. :P

They can get through the highest difficulty, so they are obviously good at the game, better than me anyway, needing assistance on hard. They just can't aim.

Its what I'm used to. I have a major disadvantage with keyboards though, since my left hand has some problems. Far easier for me to use a gamepad, since it limits the fingers I need, and far less range of motion is needed as well. Really, gamepads are nicer, unless you need pixel perfect aim. FPS games might be all about aiming, but pixel perfect is rarely needed.

Pretty much this exactly (although both of my hands are in a state of "busted up and didn't heal quite right). Even before that though, I've always felt like I had more precise control when using my thumbs on two thumbsticks (exact control on two axes rather than clunky "Oops! I moved right and slightly up when I just wanted to move right!" moments with a mouse). Also I would rather play gamepad control schemes where one button is used contextually than having to reach for (and memorize) 50 different buttons. shrug

Bah at aim assist, I turn that off when possible. I remember it in Max Payne on PS2. "You want to look over here? I'm going to snap your reticle to the enemy torso every time."

I've always been good at consoles gaming, especially FPS games. It helps to start playing when you're young, and you grasp the concepts at an early age so that it sticks in your brain forever. Of course, you can't "start playing when you're young" when you're no longer young, so practice makes perfect!

Console gamers would ask "how can you PC gamers play so good with a mouse and keyboard" I played only on console up until 2007 and so I have used a controller for years (1993 - present) when I first started playing on a keyboard I was horrible at the controls my hand was like a drunk spider having a seizure. I am now better with keyboard but for racing and platformer games I use a controller as I still am better at moving around/jumping with it. FPS games I am now better with a mouse/KB than a controller as the aim is just better with a mouse.

Even on PC, I think a controller is a better fit for certain types of games (racing, platformers and sandbox games; I don't play fighting games, but those too). In general, anything with a vehicle controls better with a controller, and I have no problem admitting it.

Practice. I'm not a shooter expert on consoles but i've played both MGS2 and MGS3, i can say; that's all about practice and left/right thumbstick syncronization.

If you're used to PC FPSers, then using a game console control will feel like you're handicapped. I think, in general, if you put players on PC/keyboard against console players the PC players would have a big advantage in speed of aiming/turning/etc. I have a friend who had a keyboard and mouse hooked up to his PS2 to play games and he had a huge advantage over everyone that was using a controller.

The key is to never look at anything in the environment and always always keep the crosshair at chest level.
Look at E3 gameplay vids of something like Destiny, there's almost never any vertical movement, it's all just slow and deliberate horizontal panning around and shooting things in the chest. If you want to play like on a PC and you want to look all around you and then quickly bring the crosshair up to shoot the enemy that just appeared on the catwalk at 10 O'clock and spin around and nail the guy at 4 o'clock in the head then you're doing it wrong.
As a mouse and keyboard player I've been asking myself this question for years and that's the only answer I've been able to come up with. A twitch shooter like me (high-DPI rapid mouse movment) is completely lost when using a controller and thus I play almost every console port that involves aiming, no matter how poor the keyboard control is, with a mouse. Watch Dogs is the first title I've played with a controller but I still need to cheat for infinite health and focus in order to compensate for aiming that often takes 5 minutes.

Is the slow movement to not show any frame rate lag? I always thought that's what it must be.

I've played consoles for a while now. I just got used to it really and can play most games on highest sensitivity too which is a bonus. Of course it is a lot easier to aim with a mouse.

Watch Dogs even at 100 still feels miserably slow though and compared to my mouse at 1800 DPI is not even remotely high-sensitivity.

I blame my childhood playing NES all afternoons after school. I never owned another console after though except for a psp i have, it's smashed to pieces though (incident with a little kid who happens to be my nephew), but I am just so comfortable with a controller. Specially for old games, I really need one for Metal Slug 3, I find much more fun to tap so much the button to fire quickly, than to have auto fire, I've never understood the point of autofire other than just be lazy.

I've never really played FPS's on anything but a PC, so one day I popped a cheap FPS I'd grabbed (probably an old CoD, don't remember) into one of my consoles and grabbed the controller to see what it was like.
Died at the first dude. Absolutely could not figure out how to comfortably aim with that thing and shelved the game. I guess it's because I'd already been spoiled by my KB+M, but the controller made even my touchpad feel heavenly. I should mention I've been playing a lot of other genres with various controllers across a bunch of consoles from a young age, so the controller/console itself wasn't the problem for me... just FPS's specifically.

Others have probably said this already, but as a console gamer whose first FPS was played on the SNES (Doom), I can still tell you with absolutely no shame that playing an FPS with a controller sucks. Some games are made for a controller (hello Street Fighter), others are made for keyboard+mouse. You just simply have greater aiming capability with keyboard+mouse, a controller can't compare. I love that FPS games have been ported to console, since it's what introduced me to FPS games back when I was anti-keyboard and I had a lot of fun with them, but using a controller for an FPS basically sucks in comparison.

I honestly wonder how people can play stuff like platformers and action RPGs with mouse and keyboard. Controller just feels more natural to me because I'm so used to it.
