On Christmas day I bought Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide as a Christmas present for a friend. Today when he went to redeem it, Steam said that it was a duplicate key. Has this happened to any of you before & did they resolve it by sending out a new key? I've sent them an email but I'm kind of worried that they won't do anything about it.

Yes I did have that happen to me before but with a different game. I just contacted support and they changed the copy in my library to one with a correct key.

So there's a chance. Well that gives me hope. Thank you.

Well they replied. They asked me to send them a picture of the error. WTF?

Picture=screenshot

that's not the point. a screenshot doesn't prove anything. all they do is waste everyone's time. ^^

Well, it's easy to create a fake screenshot but if you already own the game (you already activated the key) the message from the Steam client is different than the message you get when it is a duplicated key. I would always request a picture/screenshot if I was a seller...

but the dialog doesn't show the name of the game (if i'm not mistaken). so it could be any random duplicate key.

You should expect obvious answers to absurd comments

Make a printscreen of the message you get when trying to activate the key.

Yeah, I have. But I don't see what good it'll do.

its just something support needs, to attach to your request. For their book keeping

Fair enough. I just hope it isn't the beginning of a run-around.

i don't think so. i used to work as a support agent for a webstore and we also had to ask for screenshots, even though it didn't really prove anything. In my case, it was "proof" so that we couldn't take software keys for our own use. But that ahving said, if they do start a run-around, ask for a telephone number or skype. That way you can handle it instantly

I see. I'll be sure to ask for a phone number if I'm denied a new key. Thank you!

That already happenned to me on Nuuvem, they didn't do a thing. I don't know how GamersGate will deal with it.

Just curious, how did you give the key to your friend? Would your friend have access to it from a school, library, or other public place?

I sent it to him directly through Steam chat while he was online at the time. No, the only place he tried to use the key was on his personal laptop at home. The key has been sitting on my GamersGate account since December 25 as my friend has been in Poland without his laptop. He only just got back today. As far as I'm aware, I'm the only one who has access to my GamersGate account. I'll change my password, just to be safe.
