Am I just insanely paranoid?
Wait there are perks for being female? I must of missed the memo..

I'd like to think it doesn't have anything to do with being female, honestly. But if it is the case (which would be unfortunate), then that monthly gift we all receive isn't such a bad price.... Well.. Some days.

I would give up all of the female perks to get rid of that gift..

Well if you don't want to let people know you are female, you simply don't tell them?
I played with alot of male gamers in a clan and only one figured out i was a girl (and i took him almost 3 months).
There are no perks like you said (there shuldn't be any anyways), but you'd be surprised what male gamers would do to impress a female gamer.

My old guild's alliances were built on the premise that my guild master was cute and female so I agree with your 2nd statement. heh.

I'm not surprised at all. I've been gaming for about 20 years now.. I've seen it all. I don't go out of my way to tell them I'm female. But have never been treated differently because of it.. But that might be an age thing too which in itself could be another topic.

Adults shouldn't play games...
Even though without the adults...
There wouldn't be no games...
Kids these days!

That's the perk of not having any children. I can do what I want with my spare time & not have to worry about alittle brat..
Cause let's face it.. my kid would be a nightmare.
Edit: And screw kids these days! You can tell them I said that.. I'm not scared!

How did you go about explaining to your family that you didn't want children? I'm not even of legal drinking age yet, and they're already nagging me about it :/
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't have to explain anything to them.. I just didn't have any.. After awhile I think they got the hint.

I don't think anyone was complaining about people knowing they're female. For me personally, it doesn't make one bit of difference if they know or don't. But if men and/or women want to do or buy things for other men and/or women based solely on gender... well, that's their own choice, I suppose. A rather shallow and unfortunate choice, but their's to make, nonetheless.

True, i don't consider my self anything more than i'm just becouse i'm female and playing games.
But once the guy in the clan figured out i was a girl, his attitude towards me changed dramatically, at first i tought he was just joking, but once i realised he was for real, i culdn't belive what he would do just to impress me.

Back in the days, there was this old saying "TITS or GTFO". Unfortunately, as Internet become more popular, some newf..newbies with wit of the post-lobotomy German Shepherd came to conclusion, it must be sexism! I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out...WTF.

Ah yes.. The days when people still used yahoo messenger & they had chat rooms.. Those were good times!

Is isn't bad to received gifts from someone. Just don't accept any Direct Key from People you don't know. Humble bundle Links are safe. And if it became invalid nothing will happened to your account except the game will just remove and notify you about the game's removal.
And being female don't affect how people give gifts. Look If this exist I could just Act Like a girl (which I am very good at but I AM NOT GAY!!!) to get free stuff from boys. Tricking them into giving free stuffs.

It's okay. We accept anyone from the whole spectrum.

I don't believe it's about being a female or not, it really just depends on the person themselves.
If someone gave a game as a gift and their intention was because oh she's a girl omg or oh he's a guy omg, they're just desperate for attention to be honest. Personally It really just depends on the personality and the vibe I get when I communicate with them, I tend to give games sometimes to my steam friends who I don't know in real life.

A dear friend of mine gifted me MGR during the last holiday season. I was so surprised, I thought he made a mistake or something. When I asked, he just said that it's the season of giving. Fantastic guy, I must say. You have my respect :)

I never received random gifts like that, but I gave some, and I think someone just randomly want to do something good for other people sometime. It felt very good when I did it, and see that guy's reaction :D.
Well it was a long time ago, when I just know about Steam, I didn't know about the dark side, how people scam others,ect... So maybe the one who gift you is also like that, who is new, and was happy because he received something, and want to do something for others too.

Yeah, I've done it before. Philanthropy is something that should be normalized among others, don't fight the urge to give altruistically!

No unless it's Bad Rats.
Even Bad Rats is uncommon :^(

okay then, i'll send that bad rats 3 to someone else.

I was once offered a game outside of steam gifts and when I accepted the trade he said Quote : "Ha did you really think someone was going to give you a free game? Buy them like normal people"
^This is a real butthole move and I didnt know what he was looking to gain from it^

I don't get gifts from random strangers but a couple of friends do occasionally just randomly drop me a steam gift out of the blue as they know I'm struggling with health a bit and want to cheer me up. Not quite the same thing, but the intent is similar I'd say.

no its just the "horrible world habit' everyone obtained with time. be more open. not knowing somebody does not automaticaly make them non friends

Probably going to try to get your account suspended or something with charge back or other shenanigans.

If it's just a random game that you have on your wishlist, and that's not overly expensive, I would not call it all that odd. I sometimes give people on my friends list spare games that they have on their wishlists, and that I've got through bundles or other cheap collections, just because I figure that it's better if the game gets played than it gathering digital dust in my spare keys documents. I would personally most likely feel a bit uncomfortable if someone were to just randomly give me an expensive game, and it's not a real life friend and it's some form of special occasion, though if someone were to give me a random bundle game or a game that's really cheap in general, I would say thanks and accept the gift. .

Edit: Alright, I get it, I'm paranoid... Lol, but really, thanks for everyone's responses and being so polite. I got it sorted with the nice fella, accepted the gift and thanked him (probably overdid it, actually).
I mean, yeah, I know, we're on a gifting website here, but OUTSIDE of giveaways? Specifically, a certain someone who was the original winner of my giveaway (until I had to reroll) is now trying to just.....give me a free game? Maybe it's just where I'm from, but people don't normally just.. give things for nothing. (Even here, you receive recognition for your generous deeds.) Maybe it's just the language barrier, as he/she admitted to using a translator to communicate, but it just makes me feel a bit... uncomfortable.
Edited because I just noticed all of my discussions end with "...?"
