Am I just insanely paranoid?
I give games for free outside of giveaways. On Steam and through key drops. I do not see the issue.

I will now make you eat those words! Enjoy Bad Rats!

Bad Rats is initiation into the inner circle. Shhhh, do not tell everyone, they will all go and get it.

I was going to put something punny here or maybe a picture of a cheese wheel.. but eh.. I'm too tired.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, it almost time for sleep for me as well. But I would have enjoyed your cheese wheel.
I may have even allowed being 50 shades of cheese by it.
Comment has been collapsed.
I like this picture.
As my dirty mind is apt to think that with every turn of the wheel and with every missing piece of the cheese.
The utters jiggle just a little.

Fortunately (or unfortunately for my backlog), being a chick isn't required. Though if people assume I'm one from my avatar, I hope having my name on my profile puts an end to that.

Google translator can be very bad...
but people give stuff away. you get something. its the warm fuzzy feeling afterwards.
getting a thank you is like an upgrade to the fuzzyness :)

Sure, all the time. But not everyone can be me.
Even had someone send me a friend request to gift me a copy of DmC: Devil May Cry. A $50 game just given to a random person.
Comment has been collapsed.
Heh. I'm too low profile (i.e. not taking part in discussions or groups) on steam for anyone to get to my profile page. Unless there are people using a totally random method.
Comment has been collapsed.
Same here. I've only started trying to be more social with things, so it seemed very strange when this happened.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, I mostly don't have the time or energy to do this. Also, some a lot of forums/threads on steam are just awful. But it would be nice to get a free game out of thin air, once in a while.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I think it's obvious I'm just paranoid now... Yay me...
Comment has been collapsed.
I would be more worried if it was candy out of a white van...
Comment has been collapsed.
Well my van that I give candy from is pink, so you're safe here!

You are wrong. :P

Okay, I think it's obvious by now that I'm a paranoid nutjob. The guy/girl is veeeery persistent with giving me some game, sooo.. I settled for at least giving him some cards, gems, backgrounds and emoticons in return
Nevermind, they Really wanted to just be generous... So I gave in and accepted.. And now I feel like I owe the guy something! Aargh!

And now I feel like I owe the guy something! Aargh!
maybe... that was the plan. huh!

I knew it! There was a plot all along! #conspiraceez

Owe him something? You are quite possibly the worst pirate I have ever heard of. You'd better be an exceptional 95 to make up for that.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah... it's just what people called me back in high school... And it's mostly because of the way I dressed, not much to do with my personality unfortunately, lol.
Comment has been collapsed.
did you wear a buccaneer's hat and drink grog? Now before people argue grog isn't a fashion item. Yes, it can be.
Regarding your situation, it happens from time to time
Comment has been collapsed.
I did wear a buccaneer's hat more than a few times, actually. And I'm sure grog will hit the runways next season, just you wait and see! (By "next season," I mean absolutely nothing, because I know nothing about the world of fashion.)
Comment has been collapsed.
I...wasn't expecting that. Did the nickname start then or way before that? (I only know it coincides with season but never the exact time frame)
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't have much interaction with people in general, so this is definitely news to me :) Good news.
Comment has been collapsed.
You have a female avatar, "kitty" and possibly your age in your username. It was bound to happen eventually :P
Comment has been collapsed.
So in other words, I need to quit bein' weird about peoples' generosity or remove my pic and remove the year from my name. :/ Gotcha.
Comment has been collapsed.
Honestly, sometimes people just give games, especially when you're like me and have the excess from >100 humbles kicking around, or when unknown circumstances magically deposit gift games in your steam inventory (happened this morning, kinda wierds me out). Having said that, yeah, having your birth year in your screen name is generally a bad idea. Or really, letting anyone know your age when you're female, regardless of what it is. The internet is a wonderful but treacherous snake pit. Gotta be careful.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I'm thinking it probably wasn't a very good idea. Actually, I think I'm gonna go ahead and change it.
Edit: Changed it. Not sure how long it'll take to sync over to here, though Duh, usernames don't sync. How do I change it on here?
Comment has been collapsed.
if you didn't figure it out yet: http://www.steamgifts.com/account -> Settings -> 2. Username
keep in mind: You can change your username once a year.
Comment has been collapsed.
I tried doing that, but it won't let me. I'm assuming that since I registered here recently, it counts towards the "once a year" part. Oh well, it's my own fault for not using common sense in the first place.
Comment has been collapsed.
not that i'd like to cause a ticket to the support's bottomless pit of ticket pile but maybe support can change it for you if you're really bugged with it and you'll ask kind enough?
Comment has been collapsed.
To be honest, although I would really like to change it, it wouldn't feel right creating a ticket about something as silly as this :/ I'm sure support has got enough work on their hands, I wouldn't want to just add more for something that was my own fault. Thanks for the help, though! :)

your comment made me realize i'm getting old. thanks! what's next? '00 borned 18-year-olds? ;_;

There's self interest even in such apparant generosity, on SG the self interest is levelling up to access more giveaways, or it's being made to feel good about yourself when someone reacts with delight.
And that's not just cynicism, human nature just is what it is.
You don't "owe them" anything more than being grateful and making them feel good with a thankyou.

There's self interest even in such apparant generosity
That's kinda what I've gone through life assuming, too.
But I did thank him. So I will try not to dwell on it and just be grateful.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm sure you're plenty cute. More importantly, are you nice? Because only nice children deserve gifts.
Comment has been collapsed.
Lol! I'm sure if you are a pleasant person to socialize with and play with, someone may do something for you out of the kindness of their hearts.
Comment has been collapsed.
I made sure to say thanks. If anything, I got annoying from over thanking the nice guy.
Comment has been collapsed.
What's even sadder is how much it works for those idiots. lol
I hear about it quite often.
Comment has been collapsed.
I see lots of profiles with questionable avatars... (Just boob/butt shots and whatnot). Are you telling me that people actually fall for those? I'm impressed.
Comment has been collapsed.
You're probably (absolutely, actually) right... But I meant impressed with how dumb people can be.
Comment has been collapsed.
Never happened to me, but I've heard of it happening... Still not certain if I'm happy about being rather low profile on steam. While it limits the amount of free games people feel like gifting to me, it also limits the amount of spam bots, scam attempts, etc
Anyway, I totally agree, pineapples are much better then boring potatoes... I had forgotten about the pineapple in little nicky, I was speaking in general, but google was helpful enough to remind me. Not sure if that was a good thing either ;-)

Don't accept Steam keys from shady people!
This was one of the oldest account theft method, it goes by this.
1 - Thief buys a retail copy of Steam game that has Steam key.
2 - Thief sends the Steam key to victim.
3 - Victim activates the Steam key.
4 - Thief contact Steam support saying his account was hacked.
5 - Steam support ask for proof.
6 - Thief send photo proof of retail box with Steam key.
7 - Steam support reset account email and password.
8 - Thief profit. Victim cry.
Although Steam now requires more proof than just the retail key, it is still better to do some background check on people.

wait. so if i'll lose my account, i can't reclaim it with a cd key i bought from a digital store? i don't have any physical games and keys come with them. damn, i'm screwed.
Comment has been collapsed.
tbh...it's ...feel good feeling . many people drop keys in the forums.
if some1 likes post you made, likes your views/thoughts on something ,wants to say happy bday..... he/she might go to your wishlist n pick a game to gift you..just cause they like you.

once i pretty much got a copy of Payday 2 through a friend, was a pleasant suprise ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
I mainly try to gift games to my friends on steam ( since i know they want particular tittle they will play it and enjoy it ) on steamgifts people entering any giveaways just to win something...Many winners not necessarily curious about win game and dont even play it after win.So yeah its normal that people giving away free games to random people / friends or newly known people on steam-web.

Edit: Alright, I get it, I'm paranoid... Lol, but really, thanks for everyone's responses and being so polite. I got it sorted with the nice fella, accepted the gift and thanked him (probably overdid it, actually).
I mean, yeah, I know, we're on a gifting website here, but OUTSIDE of giveaways? Specifically, a certain someone who was the original winner of my giveaway (until I had to reroll) is now trying to just.....give me a free game? Maybe it's just where I'm from, but people don't normally just.. give things for nothing. (Even here, you receive recognition for your generous deeds.) Maybe it's just the language barrier, as he/she admitted to using a translator to communicate, but it just makes me feel a bit... uncomfortable.
Edited because I just noticed all of my discussions end with "...?"
