Is it worth getting dark souls? I have heard a lot of good things about it. At the moment i'm really starting to get burned out on some of the games i have... Because there's no challenge.

well if you get dark souls you'll have a lot of challenge , it's a hard frustrating game , so if you're the inpatient type don't get it

It is an awful port, so if you don't have an XBox Controller, be prepared for about an hour of fixing controls and downloading some fixes...

Other than that, it's a great game! Unbelievably hard, but very rewarding experience :) I do recommend!

way to talk shit about the game without knowing anything. You only need one mod that is a few MB at max and the "awful port" becomes 100times better than the original console version and you can play the game just fine with KB+M.

That is no excuse for the shittiest port ever.

So what? He is, again, calling out to the mod fixes. That does NOT make the port itself better in any way...

that would be the DSfix

edit: there also is a fix for better connectivity between "friends" if you want instant summoning or invading: DSCfix

That fixes the mouse.

I really can't understand what I said wrong...
This game is fantastic, and I absolutely recommend it to everyone! But, it is a fact that port is absolutely awful... They published a PC game that needs community fixes to be playable on PC without XBox controller and there is not excuse for that...

Eh... it works completely fine for me. It didn't even take any tuning up for the game to work. I plugged in my Ps3 controller and it works 100%

Here's how the more than a thousand hours of gameplay accumulated over the Xbox, PS3 and PC copies of my playing Dark Souls went about. Tl;dr Prepare to Cry, but then you Praise the Sun.

You are basically forced to push yourself through at least half of the game while you learn how to play your first playthrough. Dark Souls wiki and youtube will be your best friends on figuring out where to go. Then you start honing in on your preferred fighting style. Second playthrough you make your first try-hard build. Third playthrough you hone even further into the perfect fighting style for you. Fourth playthrough, you make a character that completely contradicts your perfect build, you fall in love, you stick with it for a week or two. Then you realize there's a whole nother side to Dark Souls; it's called Dark Souls: Prepare to Grief.

You will see things not meant for the eyes of man. Things the Gods feared themselves.
You will see role-players.
You will learn the roles of the various covenants within Dark Souls, such as the coveted Elevator Covenant.
Dark Souls community is best community.
Dark Souls community is worst community.
Behold, the Giant's Dad build, you will see this a lot.

But most importantly, you will have fun. Add me if anyone wants to PvP cause I ballin, yo! #yoloswagtryhard

Here's a Dwarf Fortress comic that was was altered to reflect Demon's Souls, the spiritual predecessor. Both games are similar enough for this to apply.

Clicky

Though my opinion is biased. (I platinumed Demon's Souls on the PS3 and have Dark Souls on both PS3 and PC, totaling at least 183 hours). Take that as you will.

EDIT: changed some words to reflect the comic's origin. Also just search for "Demon's Souls comic" or "Dark Souls comic" if you want to find more. Just be warned that alot of them are kinda spoilery.

Not to miscredit you, but I believe that is a Dwarf Fortress comic to begin with, Demon's Souls would fall in the "hardcore" genre.

yup pretty sure it's from dwarf fortress... that game just tries to screw you over over and over and over and... over. tho, so many hours lost building fortresses :)

Did not know this had something to do with Dwarf Fortress. I saw it when playing NG in Demon's Souls, so I assumed it was for DS. Added some stuff to my original comment.

Also this particular version was during the time everybody was hyping that the game was ridiculously hard. I'm guessing people were comparing this to your standard AAA game.

If you end up being really into dark souls, it's probably not a good thing because the makers said that the next game is going to try to be like the next skyrim and have mass appeal and all that garbage. Basically they're gonna shit all over their own creation and and the people who liked it.

They are improving the game's experience so that the new players won't be overwhelmed by all that the game has to offer. The main problem with getting new players to keep playing Dark Souls was that the majority of players took forever to find the right way to go. I myself dumbly fought the cemetery skeletons for a good hour before finding the mountain route that you're supposed to go down. My buddy unfortunately sold his game to me without having realized he was going the wrong way, having rage quit so hard I got it three days after release for thirty bucks. They aren't making the game less great for the Dark Souls/Demon's Souls vets; they are making it more accessible to those who have never played the series.

It's people like you who don't read the actual interviews and go straight to the websites that cry "THEY SAID THEY'RE MAKING IT INTO SKYRIM! GET MAD!" who are surely misinformed. From what the 12 minutes of gameplay they've shown so far, they've made it very clear that this game will hold up to the standards of the Dark/Demon's Souls community.

EDIT
Also, just a note, From Soft has shown how much they are listening to the community since a) there will now be designated servers as opposed to the broken P2P problems we've had with Dark Souls and b) the PC version won't be a crappy console port but is actually being made as a main priority to the success of the series. They've acknowledged their fanbase and aim to fix the issues, too few developers and publishers allow such a thing. Enjoy it.

Well worth it at full price if you don't mind losing (though the game is very rarely cheep, deaths will mostly be your fault alone).
I recommend these mods to fix up the port:

  • DSFix - Must
  • DSMFix - Mouse Fix | Recommended if you don't own a 360 pad
  • DSCFix - Allows friends to join your world instantly where there's usually a lot of fapping about. Though I recommend you try and beat the game solo before going co-op.

Finding your own ways of beating the game makes the game a lot more enjoyable imho. Ain't nothing wrong with choosing the easiest path ( i. e. havel's set + the black knight halberd+5), but where's the fun in that :P

I can´t but his game beccause of its region lock, stupid GFWL, don´t know if i can activate buying th key somewhere else. Is the multiplayer aspect vital?

i wouldnt say its vital however, the ability to call in someone for help and the factor of being invaded at the worst possible time can be game changing

It's a true "quest". Needs patience, inventive and a bit of skill. If you have them, it also feels VERY rewarding.
Otherwise just avoid it, you'd only get frustrated and feel like you wasted your money. :)

Also, VERY important, you'll need the DSFix to run the graphics correctly and, if you use mouse+kb, the mousefix. If you're using a pad, you don't need the latter.
