Hello, please i just wonder since a long time (since steam made it so you can no more store gift in inventory)
please what happens if you make a GA on sale sent directly from steam, and then the sale ends but winner didn't answer and you couldn't add him/her on steam ?

To tell the truth, i find it discouraging to gift games directly from steam, and it's a shame because there are sometimes goo4d promotions for games that aren't available on retailers, and from Europe/US there are almost no region-restrictions.

Just curious please, i wonder because it's steam sales soon, and it happened i renounced because of a short sale delay on Steam
(i try to do my best, but sometimes the price difference between a game on sale / full price is substantial.)

(short time to not bother for too long)

you either wait for next sale, buy it on full price, or request permission to get it deleted for gift no longer available.

Thanks for your answer, i guess it depends then on the patience of the new winner after reroll ?

or request permission to get it deleted for gift no longer available

hmm i doubt support would accept the reason, the game is still theorically available on steam

support will if winner approves the deletion.
most people here understand 99% of the gifts here are bundled/have good discounts.

If it's a private gift probably, if it's a public i don't think so
(but here it's just me who feel too unsafe about that)
thank you very much for your help and your time !

(if you're curious i thought for example Hand of fate 2 last sale for just 7 days, price on sale 5€ / full price 28€, just a 23€ difference if winner doesn't answer on time ! XD and i've some other games in mind)
well i guess in this situation to save you, you can buy a key from grey but it's not really clean

For future such giveaways, you can set them to expire a few days before their sale ends and write in the description that you want to send it as soon as possible.
About your question, I don't know what happens if you send it to the winner's email. I haven't tried it, so I don't know if the price changes until it's accepted by the winner.

I don't doubt most would understand that on this forum, for public GA however........ (yeah i'm not very trustful) :D

Steam removed the possibility to send to mail

Thanks you for your answer ! But i'm the capricious one here anyway, as there's already a wide choice of games to offer on sale from all these retailers. I'm probably nostalgic for the days when you could store gifts in inventory !

I understand what you mean and I think those who have been here long enough will have the same trust...

Oh, you're absolutely right. When did that change? Having sent quite a few gifts via steam, I feel like a noob. 🙃

From this answer maybe 2017 but it was looong time ago now. Miss the old system.
It was Valve trying to fight against grey resellers and gifting from cheaper regions.

Thank you!
Many reminisce about old times. As someone who didn't experience them firsthand, even I would like to experience them now.

I'd probably would not risk it on a public giveaway, if I jhave a time limited gift or key.

I would be more willful to do that on a forum thread, because as Carenard explained, more users know the rules

But the risk still exists

Thank you, that's unfortunately what i thought without daring to ask then.
Sad it would have been a cool option just to ignore these pesky region locks.
And even nicer then from all the people who gift directly from Steam.

The first time I did this, the winner ghosted me... I could have requested a new winner but decided against it, trusting he would come online before the sale ended... but he didn't. So I waited another month and a half for the next sale before actually delivering the gift, but I would never do that again. You should deliver your gift within a week or there will be consequences. I got lucky. Now I only gift directly from the steam store only if the sale lasts for 10+ days, so I have all the time to request a new winner if needed. You are right, it's very discouraging.

Thank you very much, i appreciate a lot your 1st hand testimony.
Unfortunately that reinforces me to do the same than you.
I'm sorry that you had to go through this tedious shit.
