This is just a small idea how to improve SteamGifts. How about a new feature that will allow the gifter to re-raffle the game if it has not been claimed for 8 days? I think it would help to manage the giveaways without involving mods. Why 8 days? The winner has got 7 days to send the game so it would prevent cheating by sending the gift and then re-raffling it straight away. Perhaps even more than 8 days would be better.

I agree COMPLETELY! I've been thinking of this idea for a month now, great minds think alike :)

I like the idea of having a middle man in between reraffling. If only to make sure that the gifter isn't holding the gift back for eight days because he or she doesn't "like" the person that won.

Holding the game for 8 days has no point because he'll receive a negative feedback from the winner after 7 days.

I don't like middle-men in any case I can avoid them.

The middle man could be a bot. I don't think it would be too hard to code a bot that mails the winner automatically. It could be used for all giveaways, too; not just for re-raffles.

What if the person that reveived the gift through email, then sent it to someone else by email? How can you see if the gift has been claimed or not?

The person activating the gift is automatically added to your friends and you can see it's nickname on your gift list.

The give-away had only been over for an hour when you posted this. They have 7 days to send it.

I really like this idea, tho as stated before, needs to be tweaked to make it seamless for those shameful scammers :/

maybe give the giveaway creator a choice 8 days after the giveaway has ended:

  • Gift was claimed but not marked as received.
  • Gift was not claimed and I'd like to re-raffe.
  • Gift was not claimed and I'd like to take it back.
The last option would give the creator the opportunity to do something else with the gift, like claim it himself, give it to a friend, make a private giveaway instead, etc.

PS: I thought about adding another option like

  • Gift was claimed by a scammer.
but that would just give fake gifters a way to avoid punishment.

How would you take back the gift? Once you've sent it to the winner, they can presumably still pick it up regardless of what you do on SteamGifts.

Unless, of course, Steam invalidates their gift if you resend the gift to another email address, so you could send it to yourself in the meantime. But does Steam do that?

this seems kinda pointless, as if the game goes unclaimed for a week then wouldn't the gifter just create another giveaway on his/her own? without the prompt of the site? I don't get the point.

If the gifter creates another giveaway then he might receive the negative feedback for the first one.
