Just got my hands on a 3DS XL. First time ever with a DS so what are some great games?

Got Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Luigi's Mansion and Paper Mario so far. Got my Mario fix down.

More or so interested in good some RPGs now.

Quantum Conundrum $0.01 Contribution

Thanks to everyone who has suggested games so far! Very helpful. :D

Fire Emblem is mentioned a few times already and I did see that name around already. I will have to look into it a bit more.

There's a demo on the eShop you can try. You'll usually know if you'll like the game or not after playing through it.

3DS XL with Mario and Luigi: Dream Team

Havn't exactly got my hands on it yet though. Having it shipped due to them not having it in stock. Should find out next week how I like it. :D

Pokemon X/Y, Super Mario 3D World, Fire Emblem: Awakening and Zelda: A Link Between Worlds are good games.

Getting "The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D" is kind of a no-brainer. I've almost finished "A Link Between Worlds" too now and it's quite good. Could be better, especially LONGER, but it's still a decent game.

Getting Pokémon X or Y might be an idea too.

Zelda was never really a game that hit me well. Windwaker for the Gamecube was the one that I played the most, never beat it though. Then the one for the Wii I played for a time but didn't beat it either. It lost my interest quicker.

They were fun games. Story just never held me down long enough for some reason to want to make it through.

For RPGs? Since Fire Emblem has already been mentioned, look into the Etrian Odyssey and Shin Megami Tensei games available for 3DS and DS. I suppose you could also try Pokemon X/Y, or Tales of the Abyss if you've never played the PS2 version.

Last Pokemon I played would be Yellow on Gameboy Advance. Still have it around somewhere...

I'm not crazy about Pokemon. Would I be missing that much if I didn't try it? I feel with Pokemon games, you play one then you have played them all. Or have they really added much to them since then? Has been a while.

The new pokemon has tons of new features that the old ones don't have. One of my favorite features so far is Wonder Trade. You give up any pokemon of your choice and you get a random one back.
For example: I wonder trade a oddish and received a shiny charizard! :D

Maybe when the time is right I shall have to dabble into Pokemon again just to see what has changed. :D

Try getting Super Robot Wars Original Generation Endless Frontier. Nostalgia is also a good choice. I wish I could recommend Golden Sun Dark Dawn, but I haven't played it. You could also get the three DS Castlevania games. (Mind that all of these are not 3DS games, they are for the original DS.)

999, Ghost Trick, Hotel Dusk or any Ace Attorney, Castlevania or Megami Tensei game, also I've heard Radiant Historia is pretty great.

Ace Attorney, Super Scribblenauts, Kingdom Hearts 385/2 Days (!!) and Fire Emblem are some of the more well-known good games, but if you're willing to look around for some lesser known awesome games:
Digimon World Championship: pretty good and overlooked title, I wasted tons of hours playing it
Monster Rancher DS: Think Tamagotchi with battles
Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved
Chrono Trigger: Classic RPG that's still well worth it's price
Monster Racers: A surprisingly fun platform-race take on the whole monster-capturing concept

If you're looking to buy some eShop stuff: Sujin Taisen Number battles (or Number Battle in America) is one of the best games I have ever played in my life! (and I've played quite alot) Pop Island Paperfields is a very nice Download play title for 2 Euros, and Steamworld Dig is basically Motherload (the flash game) with a progression system.

Obviously Pokemon, but what about Disgaea? It's not a 3DS game (I think it's from the regular DS, but it should be compatible), but I had lots of fun with the PS2 version.
