It was quite clear from the start that it would be free-to-play in order to survive in the current market. There will obviously have to be micro transactions for cosmetics. They'll most likely have skins, weapons, couriers, etc.

already knew its gonna be f2p, and probably, same as TF2 now, its gonna have a 'premium' thing. dota2 already has a cosmetic Store so... its obviously hats, saw a hat model for dota2 months ago, and probably skins, who knows...

Twist: it will be required that you have a paypal account linked to your steam account and it will randomly withdraw funds from it.
Edit: or maybe you are only charged if you win. there are already a lot F2P pay2win games, but never before has there been a win2pay game =)

Bad news then, I was hoping that this game would have a one time payment just like CS. Had my hopes of getting rid of the noobs from League of Legends in Dota, but it seems it's not the case.

Dota 2 will have strange spells that count the number of enemy heros you kill, and of course, you need a random droped crate and dota store key.

It has something to do with Steam Workshop is my guess.

Haha, they probably made enough profit anyway for all those months DOTA2 gifts were being traded. $60 here, $60 there, and no one announced DOTA2 will be free by now, of course. So, technically they were selling the game all this time tbh :)
