Hello everyone. Today's topic is vaccination. I'll try a different approach to the discussion today and I will let you do the talking.

Have you been vaccinated? Would you vaccinate your children?

Do you understand how vaccines work and what's their purpose? Do you think that vaccinations are part of some plot to rule us all?

Go ahead, speak your minds, feel free to adress anything related to those I might have forgotten. I'll have a look at them in a while and we might be able to start a debate or something.

Cheers.

1) Been vaccinated, my parents weren't abusive.

2) I would vaccinate my children, and children should be taken away from parents that do not.

3) Yes I understand basic science

4) No.

I think people that are religious/have an IQ under 180 shouldn't be allowed to breed. But no one receives what they desire.

I agree. Then humanity would die out in a few hundred years and earth could finally live in peace.

What logical explanation would there be for mass extinction in this scenario? If anything, humanity would thrive. Religion and ignorance have always been the forefront of mass population decreases, other than politics, due to genocide, mass murder, serial killings, and the like.

er the abrahamic religions consider reproduction a moral duty, catholic/muslim objection to birth control is a major factor for the population of africa being so high along with truly horrific child mortality, disease is the only major killer of humans, as horrific as WW2 was the unfluenza outbreak just afer WW1 probably killed more people and we;re no closer now than we were then to doing anything but make people comfortable when it comes to influenza

You contradict yourself. You state that religions are the reason there is overpopulation issues, which create disease and death, yet you argue my point. With the eradication of organized religion, scientific exploration would accelerate, and we would be closer to a cure, among many other advances. If it wasn't for money, politics, and religion, the human race would be a much better thing to look upon.

i agree religion has a host of bad parts but on a purerly numbers basis they tend to have more kids which outweighs the numbers that die from the other crap overpopulation brings, as it goes im not 100% sure the world wouldnt be better with no religions im certainly of the school that thinks the state should ignore religion and it be a private matter which sadly in the UK isnt remotely true, our upper house has seats for bishops id sooner see given to people on the basis of what good theyve done not what uniform they wear to go to work

I agree. Although I do have to explain something. When I say "religion", I specifically mean "organized religion". Having faith, and having religion, are two completely different things.

you have a point their, im at the most agnostic i know i dont believe any faith has it 100% right but most of them have good ideas pity they bring bad ones too, i respect anyone that has faith so long as they dont interfere in other peoples lives, if it makes you feel better ive no right to change your mind in those circumstances

Hell, maybe not even that long. Do you know how few people have IQs over 180?

VanScythe, I'm assuming you'd be one of the 85-100 people in our country with IQs over 180 on the SB scale?

If so, I'm really thrilled to meet you! You're a rare breed!

What other comments? Are they in this thread? I tried to find context in your subsequent statements in this thread, and found no ounce of tonguey-cheeckiness. :)

Anyway...carry on. Still have no idea if you're for mass extinction or not.

Gonna be tough for those few hundred left on the planet with far fewer women than men, too. And some badass inbreeding/incest, too! Eh. Worked out for the royals in centuries past.

Thank you for your obvious condescension.

And if you don't think culling all reproduction from sub-180 IQs isn't extinction, then...well, you're one of them, so I'm surprised. ;)

Carry on with...whatever it is you're trying to prove here.

You as well, with your willful ignorance and unnecessary sarcasm and condescending tone. As I have tried explaining to you that the height of the number was an exaggerated example, yet you seem stern in your standing to scuffle nonsensically with me about a moot point that has already been scuttled by my previous connotations. Good day to you.

IQ is rather bad thing to do... You would end up with less and less population, if each person didn't have 5 or so kids...

Not that I'm against the other criteria... ;D

Comment has been collapsed.

Well the height of the number was simply an example. Meaning you have to be smarter than your typical "Wal-Mart family." The reason behind this is it takes more than "fuel" (religion, politics) to start a fight. It takes a group of people that are generally uneducated, and are not accepting of others (KKK, "Neo-Nazis", homophobes, racists). You'll find that the higher the intelligence of the individual, the less they care about another persons' differences.

IQ is not even a good measuring way.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Like I said, it was just an example. We wouldn't use the IQ system itself, it would be something else entirely. If it were enacted, we'd create some way of measuring intelligence in an unbiased manner, that would be applicable across the charts to everyone. Such as powers of deduction, reasoning skills, intuition, etc. Matters of math and spelling would not apply, since some people may not have an affinity for them, but may be exceptional at something else. It wouldn't be a matter of what you know, it'll be how you think that matters.

I support vaccination. My mom got polio when she was 1 year old and cannot move her left leg. Most people have forgot polio epidemics during the 1950s. In the United States 1952, 3,145 died and 21,269 were left with mild to disabling paralysis. Vaccines saves lives.

I was, unfortunately. No way I'm ever gonna vaccinate my kids, I don't know why it hasn't been banned yet since it's been proven numerous times that vaccinations are number one cause of autismitis.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's been proven numerous times that smallpox was the number one cause of deaths before vaccination.

There have also been numerous studies that show that vaccines don't cause autism. In fact, I might be so bold to say that most of the medical community say that there is no link between vaccines and autism. It seems to be that it's mostly the uneducated and non-medical professionals perpetuating that myth.

Note: my first sentence is factual, but vaccination was not the only factor leading to decline in smallpox mortality.

I have been vaccinated and would vaccinate my children, why? Because it's a way to prevent ( not 100% ) some serious diseases. I also know how they work as what I have been studying health science for some time: they take an unactivated virus and use a part of it on the vaccinate product. As it's a small part of it, it won't cause serious stuff but is enough to make the inmune system work. That way the inmune system will create a defensive process so the next time that virus tries to infect you, the inmune system will do the same process it did after the vaccination but in a faster way.

Control minds? I guess it's just a myth, seems like a crazy theory. I hope I explained myself well as I don't know some technical words in English as it's not my motherlanguage.

What is the difference between a man and a parasite?

A man builds.
A parasite asks 'Where is my share?'

A man creates.

A parasite says, 'What will the neighbors think?'

A man invents.

A parasite says, 'Watch out, or you might tread on the toes of God...'

Yes, I'm vaccinated and would vaccinate my children. Yes. I understand how they work. No, I don't think they're part of some plot to rule us all.

I did note that somebody said vaccinations were compulsory in their country and and at least one other person saying they think they should be. That makes me uneasy in all honesty. I don't like the idea of government telling people what they can (or must) do with their bodies. I believe New York brought in some rule that you could only buy or sell pop in certain sized cups to try and tackle obesity and I don't even like the sound of that. Forcing people to be vaccinated is a big step up from there imo and I definitely wouldn't want to see that happen.

Don't know where you are OP, we had a bit of a measles outbreak in the UK (South Wales specifically) last year/earlier this because of people not being vaccinated. One guy died of pneumonia which was attributed to being brought on by the measles.

We're also where Andrew Wakefield comes from, I don't know if he's big worldwide amongst anti-vaccination people but he was the most prominent one here. He was struck off as a doctor for bad and fraudulent research.

"I don't like the idea of government telling people what they can (or must) do with their bodies."

Read a little bit about something called herd immunity. People's decisions to shun vaccinations puts the lives on many other innocent people in great danger. The law is not there to 'tell people to do with their bodies'. It follows the logic of rules against, for example, operating a meth lab in your home. Only you may be harmed by it eventually, but it has potential to explode and set an entire apartment block on fire.

Yes, fair enough. If there was mandatory vaccination then the kids who where not yet of an age to have had their vaccinations would still benefit form everyone else having been vaccinated. I can see that, and like I said am vaccinated and will vaccinate my kids if I have any.

You know, I was speaking too definitively with the part you quoted. I'm ok with the meth lab example and the reasoning behind it. However, that is an example of being instructed not to do something. You still technically have the choice to do it or not as long as you are willing to face the consequences of the law and whatnot although that's not really important here. For some reason, and I can't put my finger on it, being told you must do something (or else what, I don't know, you or your kids will be forced?) feels ethically different to me. Can't really explain it, sorry. Probably not making for good discussion here, the idea of it just makes me very uncomfortable.

Again, the above is not really a blanket statement. Being told you must wear seatbelts is an obvious example of something you're told to do that I'm cool with, but then you could always opt out of driving if you didn't want to wear one.

Vaccines are rather bad bussiness. The companies would much prefer you to have some nice condition that requires you to take pills everyday...

They are a good thing, herd immunity works in the west, but those people are still evil or stupid...
