Welcome to the Spookifying Thread 2020

The formerly warm temperatures dip as the days go by
And gradually the leaves wilt and begin to fall en masse
The warm sunsets are gone, now replaced by a cold grey sky
The signs are clear as day - Summer has come to pass.

As I observe the leaves flitter down from the trees and land upon the ground
I wake up from my daydream and come to a sudden realization;
"It is October, but the Spookifying thread is nowhere to be found!"
Without delay, I prepare for the task at hand - No more procrastination!

October (or spooktober) is upon us. To many, October is just another month of the year, and perhaps the last month before the Christmas craze sets in, especially in stores, for some countries. To some, it is a time of celebration (and mostly an excuse to party and get wasted).

To some of us more dignified members of society however... October is the month of s p o o k i n e s s.

How does one spook I hear you ask? Well, am I glad you asked...

What is spookifying?

Spookifying is a term coined by resident spookster jbondguy007. It refers to the action of taking a normal profile picture and turning it into something... spooooooky!

Almost every year since 2015 (2018 was skipped due to being too busy!), I have created a spookifying thread where members of the Steamgifts community are invited to request a "spookification" - and if they were lucky and chosen... I would spookify their profile picture, and send it to them in a reply.

The tradition lives on to this day - so here we are once again, united for the sole purpose of spreading some positive vibes and beautifying (or terrifying!) the Steamgifts community!

To apply, simply post a comment in this thread requesting a spookification (mind guidelines below!). I'll periodically go through comments (oldest to newest), find the ones I feel I can work with, and begin my work. Do keep in mind that I am one single guy with nearly no artistic/design skills, receiving often hundreds of requests every year. For this reason, some requests will go unanswered, and I might be weeks behind on requests at times.

Anyone can request a spookification, but do keep in mind these following rule of thumbs to increase your chances of being picked:

Best:

• Clean, clearly visible humanoid character(s)
• Other clean, clearly visible character(s)

Good:

• Misc artwork involving visible characters
• Human pictures
• Other pictures of living creatures, including animals

Bad:

• Logos
• Complex artworks without/with poorly visible character(s)
• Artworks/pictures without primary subject (preferably character(s))

Do keep in mind that this is just the general guidelines I use when doing these, so don't be afraid to request regardless of your profile picture!

Okay, I get it - now how do I apply?

1. I will be choosing user profile pictures to spookify at semi-random from oldest to newest (if someone looks good to work with, I'll give it a try).
2. This is not first come first serve - I may or may not spookify you, although I'll try my best to do as many as I can.
3. Since this is a lot of effort and time on my part, I may not be always here. Sometimes I'll drop by to spookify a few profiles, but I'm not making any promises to anyone.
4. You do not need to provide a high quality image; I'll work with your profile picture directly. However, I may also occasionally accept special requests.
5. If you are very concerned about getting a specific thing in your spookification (example, you can't stand blood), you may do a special request for me to exclude/include an element, and I'll try to fulfill this requirement. Do keep in mind that this is a creative process though, and typically I don't follow specific instructions and just go with the flow of my creativity to spookify images, so I can't guarantee anything, and also suggest refraining from such requests unless you really want/don't want something specific.
6. If you have requested and received a spookification in previous years, you may request again but I'll be less likely to redo it this year - there's only so much I can do with the same image. If you had one made previously but lost it, don't hesitate to ask me if I still have it! I save every single one of them in my archives.

And that's pretty much it! Let the spookifying begin!
