With exceptions for interruptions (3 minutes) the newest Xbox might require a an always on, online connection according to Kotaku.

EDIT: Adam Orth, the creative director of Microsoft Studios, doesn't understand the drama behind the whole always online scene, he also wants all devices to be "always online". Source

EDIT2: More information! PR Recovery (see bottom of article) Developer providing incite on the matter. Much More Info

What are your thoughts on this?

We all (or at least the majority of people) hate the always online DRM of the newest Sim City, what do you think of every game on the Xbox being like that?

Is this a decision breaker for getting Microsoft's next generation of console?

Looking for opinions on the subject, well aware that some people if not a large amount are PC only users but I'm sure there are some console users in here somewhere, besides that even PC users can have an opinion.

Simple the guy is a douche the way he was acting on twitter. If a console has always online I wouldn't buy. The only reason I play consoles are exclusives anyways now.

Every game pc or console should always be online. That's the only way to stop piracy.

do you really think this could stop piracy? how many "always online" games have already been cracked so far? the only ways to stop piracy are new DRM policies (like The Witcher 3), better quality and tools that let players expand their gaming experience(like Steam Workshop or mod tools)

If people can't afford games, no matter how much you improve the "experience", people won't end up buying it and will be forced into pirating. That's where majority of piracy comes from, not from hating on DRMs and such.

Man, the "people can't afford games" argument is not valid. If you play on pc, there are tons of sales, if you play on console there are used games and other ways (ebay, online shops etc...) to buy a game for a cheaper price. And if you can't afford gaming, it means you should worry about more pressing matters (it isn't a primary asset).

My biggest concern is what will happen with XBLA Library. ALot of money invested in XBLA, and don't see any reason (spoiled by steam?) we wont be able to move our libraries over to new console. If this is a no no, that will make the purchase decision easy for me.

And yet people will still find a way to pirate games, this will solve nothing.

Great way to help Sony and PS4. Go on Microsoft!

Also, he doesnt get the drama about always on? Wait for sales numbers and then compare to anything without that.... and prepare a handkerchief. Your bank account begs to differ too! :D

It was said that it would always require online and would not allow used games. However, since Playstation 4 will not do either of the two, it would be suicide for Microsoft to do this to themselves. I doubt this will be the case on release for their loyal fans will not stay loyal for long when they realize the Playstation didn't do any DRM bullshit.

Until we have a press release from Microsoft stating it will we can't jump to conclusions.

However it looks very grim that it's just a rumor and not a fact..

Pretty much. I usually purchase all the consoles when a bundle I enjoy comes out however if this ends up being true despite the games that come out for the Xbox 360 I will refuse to get it.

PS4 forever. Provides a much better experience than xbox in my opinion. Especially if you have PS+ you would know you get a lot of great games for the price xbox consumers have to pay for an internet experience

My hope: Microsoft decides to do this, but no one else does, resulting in the Xbox not being part of the market and leaving room for another company to replace it. That would be good news, probably.

They'll still be apart of the market and I guarantee that they will sell a lot of units but there will be less then what they are expecting.

Unless Activision, Ubisoft and EA will notice MS eliminated second-hand market, making their profits bigger, which would either make them drop PS4 support or make PS4 include same system...

I can't tell what you mean. You're saying that MS is going to prevent people from re-selling used games? I don't understand how that would happen.

The always online is going to be a DRM, that will stop people from borrowing and or trading and selling used games.

What darko said.

There are rumours that MS will force some DRM with nextBox (from most basic, Steam-like "1 cd-key, 1 profile/console"). "Always online" feature makes them more probable.
