Took me a while to recall that username. Eventually remembered. Bottom post was probably the most logical thing in the whole thread. And no, we did not "force" anyone to set their profile public.
In all honesty, these threads are starting to sound the same to me even though they may be different matters. It's the lack of logic that blends them to look similar to me in which case I start thinking they are about something else. I see a thread whiny about odds of winning and I somehow think it's about too many giveaways of the same game and how it should be considered exploited. Or when the other day I read a topic about an exploited game but after a while I forgot what it was about and just thought it was about free weekend issues in the sync page.

Lack of logic indeed. Try not to worry about it too much. Some people just can't wrap their minds around the reasons why everything on the site can't be catered to their exact desires. I think everything is going about as well as it can reasonably be expected to. If it starts to ever get to you, just hop over to youtube and look at some of the comments and remember that most of the people trying to rock the boat are on about that level, and then maybe you can shrug it off and have a little chuckle over it.

Thanks, Raiden. I knew I recognised that username with disgust and hilarity.

Your argument is invalid.

I actually agree with the green hook thing. It would appear something green if the system found the game in that persons inventory. That way, the guy who opened this thread can only enter "green hooked" giveaways while the others can enter whatever giveaways they want at their own risk.

Here. I totally bought this key with a stolen credit card and steam will ban you and your unborn grandchildren for life. They will also call FBI to arrest you.

Primal Carnage beta.
No need for thanks. I mean, steam will totally ban them and all, according to the OP

Yeah, I should have thought of that before I posted a reply...I hope I get a jailsuit in my size. Primal Carnage beta is really good btw

they probably tried to post a thanks but steam banned them so fast they couldn't get into steamgifts anymore

-Cases like key generators or site exploits can be easily found and dealt with, they do not mean you have to ban all keys.
-Yes, making it proof of purchase only means having what? 13 guys checking 170,105 gifts, with an extremely high average per day, that's a big no-no
-A key purchased with a stolen CC from Steam would have the same effects if bought in GamersGate, the actions would be the same: deleted game and move on. Proove otherwise.
The only "drama" that existed with keys has already been solved, that's why games like The Ship have little to no contributor value, if you're complaining about exploited/stolen keys (as in bought with fake/stolen CCs), the amount of reported cases mentioning this is probably a lot lower than you expect (otherwise the site would've been dead long ago), therefore it gives me the idea that you REALLY haven't put too much thought into this.

Hah...Hahahaha... No. Completely disagree with scorcher here. What happens to all the bundle left overs that people don't want? SteamGifts is a nice organized placed to give such things away with an automated system. I dont have to go to reddit and make a post, advertise it, wait some hours for an interested party, then go to random.org and filter through the crap to find the number, see the number isnt even there so i random again, find that number message said person. Wait several hours for said person to reply, get his/her steam or email information and then trade. @_@ That took all day already! Vs: Make listing on steamgifts, set start and end time, go make dinner, play with nephew, study come back, see winner, email key.

Just remember, giving SOME indie bundles leftovers is strictly forbidden by said bundles (which is why they were forbidden in the first place, but after waves and waves of bundle keys cg decided it's not worth to fight it, so he went with a flow and created new rules about them).

That would turn the forums into a dumping place for an infinite amount of threads giving away a single key, if keys were banished in the giveaway section.

I don't care much for contributor but I agree that enormous Key dumps would then be a problem in chat and forums if keys were no longer allowed. I like steamgifts for its hassle-free giveaways for people that do contribute and for people that want games. Sifting through infinite threads or through a chat for keys is a hassle and can serve as an unfair advantage for others.

This is not for them to decide this post was pointless if steam gifts has a problem with it they will change it so you should take this bullshit post down.

I have a very simple response to this. How widespread do you actually think the issue of stolen credit cards is, in regards to them being used to purchase gifts to give away on this site? Do you hear crickets? Because I sure do.
Secondly, I don't believe key generators pose as big an issue as you claim. The exploited A Valley Without Wind giveaways were shut down quite quickly. Loko handled support and moderation all by himself for a very long time. We now have a much larger support staff, and they're doing a fantastic job at getting things done and quickly clamping down on exploited giveaways and such, as needed.
Every once in a while this site is flooded with giveaways for certain games, but that is the nature of the beast. We've got copies of The Ship everywhere because they are legitimate keys gotten through legitimate means. The issue with regards to contribution abuse has now easily been addressed through the contribution limit on bundle games.
Removing keys altogether would significantly reduce the amount of giveaways created on this site - it would severely limit the options of giveaway creators. While Steam itself is the only source of Steam games that can be placed in your inventory, there are a myriad of key sellers. Having GMG, GG, Amazon, etc as options both increases the scope of what giveaway makers can give away, and the volume.
I think you're looking at a small issue and tacking on a radical solution.

I know you only have good intentions for doing these, but the cons outweigh the pros quite heavily here.

Let's have a big fat, no. I actually buy keys from Gamersgate, GreenManGaming and Amazon from time to time for the sole purpose of making giveaways. I do it because they sometimes have great specials. Ban this, and I can't afford to do as many giveaways.

If you want you could go ahead and try to see how many users you can get to comply with your suggestion on your own but keep in mind you'd be on your own with no affiliation with the support team. I can't imagine how many out of the loop users will be suspicious of you though but good luck with that.

What you say: "Blah blah some ridiculous garbage about people making giveaways with stolen credit cards blah blah . . . . "
Complete non-issue. It has fuck-all to do with keys or anything else. Never mind how ridiculous the idea of someone doing that in the first place is, it's no different from people buying through Steam and doing a chargeback. Also, the policy is almost completely unenforceable anyway. What a joke. I can assure you that such a policy will not be put into effect, and I really have no idea why you would ever even begin to think it would, much less bother posting this, or even a suggestion in support. Furthermore, I don't have the vaguest idea why you would even think this is a problem, or why it would even occur to you in the first place. Your critical thinking skills need some serious work.

The contributor status 'issue' made me LOL.
"But it is the only way of keeping steamgifts.com clean in the future." Yes, because people GIVING away games they paid little for is going to hurt SteamGifts.

copy for you from my support section
Please disallow keys at all, except for developer giveaways. Only valid Steamgifts should be allowed in the future.
My reasons:
In the past there has been to much drama surrounding exploited giveaways. Also, with the appearance of keygenerators that are able to generate valid Steamkeys (A Valley without Wind), this is just too much of a risk to take in the future.
You could make it proof of purchase only, but that would put a lot of work onto your support team, which are only volunteers. All this combined, leads only to one solution: disallow keys, no matter the source.
Yes, it will hurt legit users, it always does. But it is the only way of keeping steamgifts.com clean in the future.
Update:
We cannot verify the source of a key or if a stolen credit card was used etc. There is no way. With the contributor status it has become too much of a risk, because people will do anything for that stupid contributor thing.
A key purchased with a stolen CC from GamersGate can be as illegit as one from badkeystore.fuck etc.
Update 2:
Regarding buying steam gifts with stolen credit cards:
That is true, but steam support can verify that you got the game as a gift and also see that maybe the offender comes from a different country, rendering you innocent. In that case they just remove the gift.
But if you activate a fraudulent key on your account, things might go different.
Alternative:
I made a suggestion like 6 months ago to verify gifts through the inventory via steam-xml, but that was flamed down as well. We need either one. If a gift is validated through the inventory, display a small icon on the giveaway, like a green hook. But nobody wants that either.
