I will shortly explain the sail. If anything is wrong or missing pls write it into the comments.

-What is a Grand Prix?
+Modded version of the Chinese new year event for Summer Sale 2019. Teams are competing with the amount of money they spent on steam.

-What is there to achieve?
+You can join a team to compete with. The winning team will receive 300 games, 2. place 200 games, 3. place 100 games; 600 games in total which are going to be distributed randomly in the teams.

-What is a boost?
+Boost is spending up to 1000p for your team.

-How can I earn points?
+You can earn them by completing tasks given by steam; achievements of games you already collected can be redeemed as points if you have enough O-meter capacity, the rest of your points will disappear.

-How can increase my O-meter points?
+You will get some O-meter point at the beginning related to your purchase history so far (from the beginning of the Lunar new year event), each day you will get 100p extra, and also while spending money you can increase your O-meter points.

-I have used my capacity and now it is on 0, how can I reset it?
+Your O-meter points won't reset, this to prevent people from crafting endless badges or getting an infinite discount. (My idea)

-So, if my O-meter won't reset how can I get more?
+Purchase more and more...

-How much should I pay?
+Don't waste your money into games you won't play to get a %0.00000000000000000000001 chance of winning the game you want. Buy what you want instead of trying to win it.

-What is a pit stop?
+The place where you exchange your tokens for wp, extra discount, badge and emoji for the chat.

-How to get tokens?
+Boosting your team will give you tokens in exchange.

-Which team should I join
+Since it is unlikely to win a game instead of joining the winner team join the 2nd because the winning game has more people participating the chance is very low to get a team; not that I believe that you can win. Instead, try joining giveaways on steamgifts.
Or join the team according to the badge you want.

-My friend spent around 50$ he got more O-meter capacity whereas I spent 500$ how is this possible?
+This sale is like Fallout 76. Bugs are everywhere. There are people with infinite O-meter capacity.

-Does Gaben care about the bugs
+Maybe, maybe not

Hope this helps a bit.

I've gotten the impression that it awards capacity/points/whatever based on the retail price of the game(s) you buy, not the discounted price/the actual dollar you spend on it. Can someone verify this? I just spent two dollars on a few 90% off games and I swear got way more points than I should have.

To me it seems like it would make sense for Valve to do this because it would incentivise more higher discounts from devs/publishers.

I used 3 boosts in a row today and got a whopping zero tokens. Looks like it's still full of bugs (or "hidden features" as Valve would surely call them).

Read the notice on the Steam news. Steam gave everybody who participated in Day 1 and Day 2 a bonus 1000 capacity for each day played as compensation for the confusion.

Oh my, I almost went on spending frenzy because I thought they had finally fixed the system as it was explained by the rules. With these 2k capacity I had pretty much what I would have had if they added 100 capacity on top of our previous day's capacity.

Get points is easy, you just have to play for 30 minutes any game with achievements (hopefully some game with achievements already unlocked). Then you scroll down to claim the max point of your o-meter and that all, you boost the team and wait until tomorrow

For example, because my game Stardew Valley achi~~ i get like 30k of points, but onyl can use 1.000 (because thats my o-meter capacity)
Today I play Left4dead and claim the point, tomorrow will use Portal

Do I have to switch the game (to AFK) everyday? Or as much games as possible 30 minutes each per day?
If I can just stick to one game, should I pick a game with the most achievements? Although the game I used today just has 10. And that seemed enough to fill to max for the 30 minutes.

Are those "games" with thousands of achievements amazing for this event?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, for regular achievements you can get points only once. On the contrary those tasks in specific games can be repeated.

I started with achievement games, but their achievements provide way less points then regular games. I'd suggest to use completed games or some popular/difficult games, maybe with multiplayer (CSGO, PUBG, KF).

Exactly, also since after we finished a game we usually unistalled it, we can use ASF to idling for 30 min (!PLAY app_id)

Thanks!
Nice post, you deserved to get a job on Valve instead of the dumb that create the event.
It take me 3 day to understand what you explain here. Also im trying to my friends understant no matter how points someone can have from achivmemtns, if your cap is low that's all for you until you spent some money on the store, so people who use SAM have no advantage, simply idle with ASF (very usefull if you dont have all your library installed in your hard drives) a game you already have completed (i mean with lots achivments already unlocked) or simply let the game on the main menu or launcher for 30 min and you will get the points for achivments.

During this 3 days i try to get the 40 points for each enemy i kill with melee in Deathwing, or hacking a door but by now i dont get any points. Guess those task/quest are broken like all this awfull event.

steam removes capacity(O-meter), points if capacity was used. Tokens if points were used to boost and finally all rewards claimed with that Tokens(including badge crafted and steam lvl)

the problem is that while using points your O-meter points decrease as much as you spent. So it's normal that you have no O-meter left after using it all. You have to purchase more games, or live with the daily 100p.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I spent 200 usd, i should have the O-meter.
Also, there is another problem about it, I can't load the page at all.
There are other people having the same issue, as i checked in the steam forums, but not much people, so they don't care at all.

It's the same for me. I use 1000 distance on every boost regardless of how much capacity I've got. Boost 100, use 1000.

Of course, it may have something to do with the fact that my odometer started with 40,000 distance capacity. Day 4, and I've yet to have to refill it with points from quests or achievements. At the current rate, if it keeps using 1000 per boost, I have enough left to make it to the end of the sale without ever touching the 80,000 points worth of achievement "fuel" that I'm eligible for.

I can't even take any of that stuff since my odometer still has more distance in it than my boost capacity. But whenever I use a boost, even if its just the free daily 100, I loose 1000 off the odometer.

I imagine that if I ever manage to empty my odometer, then I'll see something similar. But since the very start of the event, all I've ever seen is:

YOU ALREADY REACHED YOUR MAX POINTS
Upgrade your maximum points or wait until tomorrow to claim your points

Comment has been collapsed.

My meter is bugged since the beginning and I can't get any capacity by playing games/unlocking achievements, it just won't register.

This event is basically non-existent for me.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can't get capacity by playing games, you only fill it by playing games. O-meter points can be increased by buying games or daily 100p. Maybe it is easier to understand if I say that the O-meter is your tank and the points u get from the games are your fuel. You need to increase your tank first by purchasing games, then play them to fill it. NOte that while using your fuel your tank decreases by the amount u use fuel.
If you can't get capacity (O-meter points) by purchasing games then you should leave a ticket at the steam support.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That makes sense thanks. Though I bought Tales of Vesperia and received no capacity. I always have 0 capacity, daily log-ins won't increase it either. I'm too lazy to send a ticket, thanks anyway.

Still buggier than an anthill. Sometimes I get tokens when I boost, sometimes I don't. And since day one I've never been able to empty those achivements into fuel or register the Stardew Valley goals.

Permalink

How have you been able to boost daily if not charging your uncharged points with achievement gains (task are pretty much a waste of time)?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I had like 20000 points when I started the event (probably leftovers from the Lunar Sale).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Maybe leftovers from the lunar event might be the reason you don't get tokens. Since it's kinda buggy the algorithm might think you already earned the token considering your amount of tokens.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Maybe. Considering I've seen people who started with negative points, people who got enough tokens to level up their profile to 27000, and how obfuscate the rules were at first (and still are, to a degree), it's hard to find a pattern on how the whole thing operates besides "click on stuff to change numbers".
