Gameplay is the important bit, and that can be good on any system. What matters is enjoying your game.
I've got access to thousands of games over PC, consoles and handhelds. No need to argue that one is better than the other, they all have great games that I can't play on another system.
Comment has been collapsed.
+1 Everything is subjective! People have different preferences! Nothing can be stated as fact usually!
One great positive that PC has over console gaming is the library is constant, and for the new consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One (Not sure about the Wii U) They do not have backwards capability which does not allow them to play games for previous consoles! which I find to be a big negative!
Comment has been collapsed.
That is only for online, not a problem for people who play single player (or are still playing on consoles without, like PS3 and Wii-U).
Comment has been collapsed.
Plus games are something I could care less about. I own most on one system or another, and I got piles of PS3 games already.
Comment has been collapsed.
So? you pay, and get even more of them.
I have 15 months on PS+ already, considering I got about 5 games each month from the IGC makes 75 games in the 15 months. But 3 months where free for me so lets make it 60 games in 12 months. 1 year PS+ = €50-. 50/60 = 0,83.
So you spend €0,83- for each game you get in PS+. Thats reasonable for me even though you only can access them if you have PS+.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not everything is subjective though. There's objective reasons why PC is better than consoles.
Also, regarding the Wii U, that is backwards compatible. It runs Wii games. Nintendo consoles are backwards compatible with the previous generation.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's cool! I would like a Wii U in the future, especially since my Wii is having problems so I cannot play any games on it atm!
I am referring to reasons such as friends, comfort, certain exclusives etc, etc,
I think Ferrari's are cool! but I do not know if I would like to be driving around in one! Il take an Audi or BMW over one anyday.. but Yeah PC does = better performance, services etc etc, not to mention mods! (Cannot wait to see how GTA V mods come about!)

Graphics are unimportant, modding is nice but not something required (and the games most popular for mods already have a **** load of content, so I've long considered it redundant), a keyboard is inferior to a gamepad in all but number of keys (360 degrees of movement in an analog stick is damn good), and while a mouse is useful in some games, not everything needs the pixel perfect aim it offers (even FPS games rarely need you to aim at a single pixel :P )
It has some nice features, but they are in no way required for enjoyment. And they have their flaws as well. Standard systems sharing the same hardware will run the game without a doubt. My PC refuses to run certain games despite suitable hardware and up to date drivers.
Comment has been collapsed.
Though I'd disagree that graphics are unimportant, as I like games to be as best looking as they can be considering the amount I paid for my hardware, it's still a fact they're better on PC. Regardless of opinions as to whether or not graphics matter, them being better than consoles is still a fact. As for modding, it's not something I use a lot in games, but again the fact it's there is another factual reason PC is better. It's there if people want it. Keyboards I somewhat agree on, I prefer analogue sticks for movement, but the amount of keys on a keyboard that are accessible easily outnumber the buttons on a gamepad. Coupled with the smoother aiming/camera control of the mouse, that wins me over in regards of controls.
Though most features aren't required for enjoyment, depending on the opinion of who you ask, the fact these things exist is in itself a reason PCs beat consoles in certain aspects. As for not being always able to run games, this is definitely a flaw PCs have. But it's usually quite rare, and there's always a cause. Too bad it's not always fixed.
Comment has been collapsed.
As I said, gameplay is the focus of games. The "Graphics is better on PC" arguement isn't important, because one thing I've noticed is that I can make out the game just fine on the console. Now, if the console and PC comparison was a 320*200 resolution on the console, then it might matter, but that isn't the case. The improved graphics aren't going to change the gameplay in anyway once you can see, so if I have a choice between the game on PC or PS3, other factors are considered.
For the keyboards, they would have an advantage in more complete games that require more keys, but even most PC exclusives don't need that many. Plus, I have a good personal reason to avoid keyboards (gimped left hand, it can be painful to use at times, and the gamepad requires me to use less of the fingers on it). I won't deny the advantage of a mouse, just that I don't believe most games need it. An RTS, sure, not going to play any with a gamplay unless programmed to be played with one (the older consoles had some nice ones made just for them).
The flaw of PCs is indeed not always fixed. I've had Doom 3 BFG for a long time and no work has been done to fix a common problem for users. They just say we should update if we haven't already. When that doesn't work, we are ignored. Got similar problems in other games like Transistor and Watch_Dogs that fan fixes have been unable to solve. They might be rare, but knowing the game will work is a nice incentive for me to buy on consoles. Should the game not work, well then, its still easier to get a refund with someone who isn't Valve. :P

In this case, the "Graphics is better on PC" argument is important. Because it's a factual pro of PC gaming. Regardless of whether it's important or not, OP asked why PCs are better, and graphics being superior is a factual reason why PCs are better. Again, regardless of whether they're considered important. Personally, if I had a choice between a game on PC or PS3, and graphics were the only thing being taken into consideration, I'd take PC. Because they'd be better. Why not have better graphics if you can? It's one of the main reasons a lot of PC gamers pay hundreds of dollars for top of the line rigs.
Fair point with the keyboards. They're hardly the selling point of PCs. And in fact, another reason PC is superior is the fact you can use a keyboard or a controller. Anything works most of the time.
It's unfortunate that we live in a world where capitalism reigns supreme in western countries. Corporations have no care for the consumer so long as they are making money, and they'll do whatever they can (within the law) to maximise profits, including screwing over the consumers. But this is hardly a con exclusive to PCs. Consoles, especially the next-gen ones, are having increasingly more problems too thanks to developers growing lazy/being rushed and publishers growing greedy. So you can't always know a game will work on consoles these days. At least with PCs you have some freedom to attempt to fix the problem yourself, or have the community make their own patch/modification. Console users have to wait for a patch that may or may not ever come.

As someone who owns multiple systems, I'm not willing to spend money on only tooling up a PC to the extend it can render my arse from the moon. :P
I've already said my piece on that. Gameplay over graphics. Functional is what I want. The game I'm playing on PC is the same game at 800 600 with everything turned down or 1920 1080 with all the shiny bits activated. I started my PC gaming on monochrome Pac-Man. I never much cared as long as the game works well.
A number of console games actually do allow keyboard and mouse control. I remember trying it once in Dirge of Cerberus (PS2). Didn't do too well though.
As for gamebreakers, on consoles the testing is much easier. One system after all. The problem on PC is that no one has the same system, so stuff gets past broken for some systems.
Yes, a game can be released broken on consoles, but its because of a scummy company releasing before finished, and then it doesn't matter where you get it. It just isn't finished.
Comment has been collapsed.
If the gameplay and everything except graphics is held constant across PC and console, and the PC has better graphics... then that's definitely a benefit. There are several games where this is true (i.e. Skyrim). How much you care about graphics is purely subjective. The fact that Skyrim can be played in higher resolution on a PC is objective. I don't think graphics should be the be-all-end-all of games, and some games are designed so that graphics don't matter. But nobody plays Skyrim on the lowest settings if they can run it equally well on the highest settings, and there's a reason for that.
Comment has been collapsed.
No. Graphics that can be rendered at a higher resolution, versus graphics cannot be rendered at a higher resolution. It is objectively better to have the ability to render graphics at a higher resolution. Whether you like higher resolutions is objective. Having the ability to do so vs. not having the ability to do so is objective. Something that has more functionality than something else with no loss is objectively better. Maybe not enough to matter to some people, but that's where the subjective part comes in. The PC version is objectively better, but if you don't care about better graphics, then from your perspective they are equally valuable despite one having more objective value.

Are you saying that a six axis analog stick has 360 degrees of movement?
6 axis = 12 buttons (one on each end of the axis) x2 for pressing two at once = 24 large degrees, still better than pcs wasd or arrow keys which has 8 degrees (2 axis = 4 buttons x2 for multiple button presses).
Comment has been collapsed.
Better graphics, higher achievable frame rate for smoother gameplay, higher resolution, mods, customisability, prices, no need to pay for a terrible online service, being able to multitask, and better exclusives.
Those reasons are why I prefer PC gaming.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ok this sums it up! Also, when he talks about customization is very important, in laptops is very rare but on desktop you can upgrade (or downgrade) your parts as you wish! Say you start with a not so good video card or CPU, you can buy something better when you have the money and you still have ALL your gaming library (unlike consoles that now are selling re-releases at 60fps).
Comment has been collapsed.
Better graphics, more options, up-gradable, cheaper games, much more variety of games, Steam, free multiplayer, etc....
But obviously your laptop is just very bad :/, you need a Gaming PC, it may be more expensive to buy aa Gamign PC but in the large with games, stuff, etc it's a big way cheaper and better.
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't say it has to be a "super" gaming PC, I meant than even a 450-500€ PC is much better than a console, is more expensive at start, but in the large a lot cheaper. Even a 600€, or a 700€, or even more Gaming PC in the large is much more cheap than a console, considering all the things you buy, games cost insane amount of money for console, specially in Europe.
Comment has been collapsed.
It is called sales. Yeah, got some news for you. They aren't exclusive to PC. I've picked up more than 10 games on PSN for a dollar each in the past, not to mention other cheap games. Got Ni no Kuni for about 90% off. Demon's Souls for $8. Etc.
Comment has been collapsed.
Gotta love the ignorance that Xlive and PSN sales is a thing.
Comment has been collapsed.
You might want to check yourself there. One might think you are foolish enough to believe only PC has good sales.
Can't say beans about the XBox Live service, but PSN and even the Nintendo EShop does sales.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think you misunderstood me. I was agreeing with you since lots of people seem to think sales aren't a thing for consoles.
Comment has been collapsed.
That only applies to Downloadable Games. (Which is resonable when comparing to Steam)
But when it comes to physical copies, sh!t gets real, unless the game is REALLY old.
Comment has been collapsed.
Actually, I get my disc copies cheap as well. Its called hunting for a good deal. Even some PC gamers might remember this from the days before Steam.
Also, used games, something uncommon on PC now, but easy to find for other systems.
Comment has been collapsed.
used games are not uncommon on PC, you can buy used games on ebay, amazon, etc (check LGR thrifting videos on youtube)...when its come to hard copy, you can get it on any system - be it console or a PC. but soon, like on PC, digital distribution will be the main way to get games for consoles and then you can forget about used games....but again on PC, on steam, you can share your games with friends and family digitally - can you do it with digital games on console?
Also about prices - did console games were ever bundled in a 1$ humble bundle(2K, square enix,THQ games)?
Comment has been collapsed.
Used PC games are uncommon at this point, because too many require Steam, UPlay or Origin at activation.
Used console games have at least another generation.
Sony systems can share games (I share my PSN library with my family already). Not sure about XBox Live.
I never said consoles have deals that match bundles, but they do have digital sales and used copies cheap, while too many PC gamers act like you can't get a console game for less than release prices.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, mods and bigger hardware are main thing.
As PC standards scale,so does the quality of textures, count of polygons, etc etc on PC.
On console,u've got the same hardware and designers trying to pack as much as possible while maintaining fluent gameplay.
Console games are being optimised as hell and one must sacrifice quality for framerate.
For PC,u just put in another RAM module, newer GPU and more powerfull GPU and u're good to go( "just" :))
I started writing that u get much bigger bang for your buck with consoles in the long run,but then again, console games are more expensive than PC ones,so there is that part of equasion to take into account.

I used to be adventurer like you
but then i took an fokken 1$bundles, steam itself, all of these free games, so huge discounts during many sales, etc... and last but not least - steamgifts;)
when Bill Clinton said "The economy, stupid" then he just replied question "Why is PC better than Console?".
off the record - consoles are ok:)
Comment has been collapsed.
There are hundreds of more reasons that makes PC better than any "gaming" console in my opinion, but I don't think any of my opinions would convince console peasants to PC.You should game on whatever you want, just keep your peasant talk away from me.I sometimes rent consoles but I only use them for exclusives, which I HARDLY play since 30 FPS lock and controller is shit to me.
Comment has been collapsed.
There are no sensible points. Also, anything that isn't a BMW is a peasant car for filthy plebs, sex with a condom is for idiots and eating anything but still bleeding human meat is crap for people not worthy of their lives. Because I said so. I'm the master race and you're sub. That's it.

Trust a SG user to be using the worst analogies known to man.
Those are complete extremes and unrelated to the topic at hand. But since you're unable to differentiate opinion from fact, it's no wonder you're using such terrible analogies.
Though a few of Asperyules points are opinions, the others are fact. It's a fact PCs allow for mods whereas consoles do not. That's a pro right there, it's already PC 1 - Console 0 in terms of facts. Customisation, oh look another factual benefit of PC over console. All them MMORPGs, whether you like them or not, still another fact. Hardly any MMOs on the consoles. Prices, yet another fact. PC games are much cheaper than console games, and we have better digital sales too. Upgradeable parts, oh what do you know, it's another fact!
These are all pretty sensible points to me. You'd have to be a troll, a console fanboy, an idiot, or a mixture of the three to not realise that.
Comment has been collapsed.
Could you please give us one "fact" why consoles are better than PC's ? Just one please, I'm curious.

Last time I checked, 60>30. It's a fact. I'm sorry you're so mad that you forgot your basic school math.
And since you're clearly waaaay too dense for a proper discussion, I'm out of here.

Last time I checked, games were about fun.
But then, a semi-religious group of hardware rednecks emerged, seeing as their only moral go-to - the supremacy of the white man's overpriced hardware - was threatened in its existence, to come to its defense, mustering up arguments above and beyond sanity to not lose the only value they ever had in their life - pushing pixels on months' worth of expenses while claiming they had oh so many uses for all that money. But dem pixels, man, 60fps worth of pixels. 60 fps worth of saved virginity. 60 fps worth of never having to see the sun. 60 fps worth of neckbeards. That's where it is. True, and measurable 60fps worth of fun. Unlike that other fun, the ambiguous one. Who needs fun you can't put in a number? Right, no one.
So marcheth then forth, brethren, in defense of the pursuit of every man's (not woman's of course, ugh) right to have a full 60 fps worth of fun, just the kind of fun you want them to have, not the ugly one where children laugh and people get together, no no. The one filled with yelling of pure fun, the one filled with jouyous chants like "I FUG UR MUM XDDD", typed with such clarity and precision only a 60 fps experience can deliver.
And so, I must stand down and I can see clearly, now the rain has gone: 60 fps is more joy than anyone could ever have with things like friends or fun.

Personally, keyboard + mouse, mods and the fact that you can actually upgrade your computer piece-by-piece as an investment rather than buying a new, full, console whenever needed.

...No, because consoles age and generally start to 'die', example being 'RROD' or the Playstation's equivalent 'YLOD'.

Console manufacturers don't want their machines to be backwards compatible. They want to sell you the next one (& the one after that, too)
Comment has been collapsed.
Investments put into a PC will easily outweigh a console as long as you're not about exclusives and aren't afraid of some DIY tinkering both physically (if going for desktops) and virtually.
The pros of computers are, but not limited to:
1) Better access to sales.
2) No extra paid subscriptions needed to play online
3) Not restricted to just gamepads.
3b) Can use any gamepad you desire.
4) (The super obvious) Functions as a workstation computer at the same time.
4b) Can multitask between work & play.
5) Backwards compatibility + emulators
and 6) Mods
Being able to mod alone adds enough replay value to games you've already had your fill of and start your adventures brand new.
Also, if you ever decide to invest on building a desktop for yourself and take the time to learn, then your benefits increase even more so. You will:
1) Be able to diagnose problems without the need to tech support.
1b) No need to send your entire computer to a company to get it fixed.
and 2) Have access to upgrading PC parts, without the need of replacing everything as a whole.
It's honestly not hard to build a computer at all and there are plenty of guides out there to help you get started, but I'm digressing at this point. It's just a nice idea to think about if you're ever interested.
Either way, if you have the money to buy yourself a console, but can live without exclusives and aren't afraid of a little troubleshooting, then I personally would say to go with a gaming PC. $700 invested on a gaming computer will always serve you better than $700 invested on a console. You will thank yourself and your wallet will stay nice and fat in the long run.
Comment has been collapsed.
^^^ That pretty much covers it.
PC == much more bang for the buck.
Comment has been collapsed.
My friend asked me: "You play a lot. Why don't you buy a console?" I started to count what's my favorites: CivilizationIV, Men of War, Jagged Alliance, STALKER, IL2 ... now Insurgency. Strategy, flight sims, serious shooters. None of them on consoles.
Also I know my PC, built by myself from picked parts. Overclocking, adjusting graphic and gameplay if needed. But an average people can't handle this, they better buy console to play, don't have to adjust, to worry. PC gaming is for enthusiasts, and riches.
I bought an Xbox360 meantime. Plays it with my kids and friends, fun shooters (Borderlands, COD-against zombies), platformers (Raymans, LEGOs), some racing (Forza, SEGA), couch only - never online, lying with the contorler in my hands, my son jumping front of the TV, killing skags and bandits, yelling oblivius the world... very different feeling.
So in my opinion: none is better. Both have it's place.
Comment has been collapsed.
Way more games, possibility of emulation many other platforms: PSX, Android, iOS, PSP, Vita etc., backward compatibillity - you don´t need to buy another version of your game if you have new generation of device, more precise control, better graphics, physics, connectivity - not just TV and controller, free multiplayer, if is something broken? you can just replace it, unlimited possibility of customazing games - mods, localization, tweaks and biggest advantage: It is able to make way more than just run games, internet browser, movies and music. PC is compared to consoles something like Olympic games and Paralympic games. No offence but it is true. :D
Comment has been collapsed.
There are three big reasons I would find it very difficult to go back to consoles from PCs for gaming.
1) PCs are better suited to performing other tasks. Using a browser is much easier at a desk with a mouse and keyboard for example. I can use other software such as TrackIR (awesome in sim games), big-ass HOTAS joysticks and other peripherals. I have the full use of an efficient operating system.
2) Game prices and availability of games.
3) Being able to upgrade parts and replace broken parts. Being able to build a machine from scratch to one's own requirements.

PC Master race is all you need to know. All other races are inferior. No one cares about the weak console race. Let them fight amongst each other like the savage and unskilled plebs they are. Science has proven that consoles and their users are inferior in every imaginable way. It's NOT prejudice, it's science. That's a fact. The PC Master race is the chosen race. Console races will never be able to keep up. It's not their fault. It's in their hardware. Their software. Plainly stated, it's the way they were created. It's a fact. No point in denying the truth. Political correctness can kiss my arse. The console race is doomed to mediocrity. I pity them. Victory is ours. PC Master race shall always reign supreme.

Well I have a laptop Dual-Core Celeron 1.6GHz, 4GB RAM, Intel HD Grpahics (1.6GB integrated video memory). Yes. It is a really bad laptop but I'm suprised that it can run a few good games. I also have an Xbox 360 Slim. I have much more games on my console but I'm interested on knowing what you guys think of PC gaming vs. Console gaming. What do you guys think of the difference between the graphics. Why do you guys say that PC is better than console? I can't really get a vote on which is better since I have a very bad computer and the "good" games I run are on lowest and some have to be played windowed.
