Well I have a laptop Dual-Core Celeron 1.6GHz, 4GB RAM, Intel HD Grpahics (1.6GB integrated video memory). Yes. It is a really bad laptop but I'm suprised that it can run a few good games. I also have an Xbox 360 Slim. I have much more games on my console but I'm interested on knowing what you guys think of PC gaming vs. Console gaming. What do you guys think of the difference between the graphics. Why do you guys say that PC is better than console? I can't really get a vote on which is better since I have a very bad computer and the "good" games I run are on lowest and some have to be played windowed.

This is why I consider the PC vastly superior to consoles:

  • I also use my pc for work (programming 'n stuff)

  • ability to create mods

  • The pc is an open platform. Developers don't have to pay/bribe Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo/WhatHaveYou in order to be allowed to publish their game.

  • Ability to use a mouse/keyboard along with a controller or joystick. Consoles force you to use a controller, which is a no go in my case. (I can't comfortably hold a controller because of the alignment of my left wrist and my inability to turn my wrists in order to fix that.)

  • Ability to [alt]+[tab] out of a game to quickly look something up.

  • I still live with my parents and sister. We only have one tv (an old CRT screen!). If I had a console, we would be fighting wars over the right to use the television each evening. My family is not interested in my gaming hobby. Gaming on my computer allows me to keep this hobby to myself.

I'd say the option to use any input device you'd like to be a big plus. With programs like xpadder or joy2key, any device works if you want it to. But honestly, it comes down to preference as already said. The whole "master race" thing is crap and frankly, a pretentious way to say "I'm better because I prefer".

Look, they both have strengths. I game only on PC now, and I miss the console's one great feature: it's just a box that plays games. I don't upgrade it, I don't maintain it, and it doesn't crap out if I get a virus from any of the other stuff I do. It was a simple ecosystem.

But I love my PC because with my new graphics card Far Cry 4 runs much nicer than on any console, and because there are so many neat games constantly popping up for it. This War of Mine is awesome. Is Valiant Hearts even on X-Box One? I don't know, but I can always rely on new unusual indies popping up. Where PS4 might get a "console exclusive," I know for sure I'll get Shovel Knight, and rarely have to worry about a game coming out and missing my system. The only console exclusive I wanted was Dead Rising 3, and that wound up on PC this year.

Personally for me it's a combination of general usefulness and availability.

I can use a PC for lots of stuff- university, reading, creating, using SteamGifts, playing games and so on. Consoles are exclusively for games, so while a PC/laptop is more expensive, it covers a lot more stuff while the console is one big money dump to be "allowed" to play it's exclusives.

As for availability... when I was little I had a PS1. Most places around here (Bulgaria) you could "buy" games from back then got their games by pirating them and writing them to a disk... In recent times I have seen a single "official" games related shop in a mall in one of the bigger cities and honestly the prices are ridiculous. Most of the stuff there are quite outdated too. Since PC is more or less completely digital you can get games from any location with Internet and everything is constantly kept up to date.

So, yeah, mostly that. At this point unless I get really rich some day I wouldn't consider buying a console. It's not something I "need" in any way (especially with the several hundred games in my Steam backlog waiting to be played). Still, might buy a controller for those games where it's supposedly better.

Playing cracked games is kind of obsolete. Sure, if you want to try a game before you buy it you can do that but games are so cheap and you have so much ability to get an idea of what a game looks like and plays like before buying it.

I've torrented tons of games, but not much at all since the ascension of Gaben to the throne.

Also, not to engage the No True Scotsman fallacy, but real torrenters torrent on invite-only/private/secret trackers.

Choice of controllers, higher resolution, more power, backward compatibility, mods, more games, easier updates, upgradability, better prices and you can use the computer to do much more than just play games.

Flexibility, power and options. People forgets that consoles are simmplified PC for gaming, which in the present struggle to perform well (now even acomplishing it in many cases) in the aspect they were created for.

People still use consoles because they are simplier and they are lazy to learn some PC basic stuff.

To be extremely honest, both can do good. But the thing is, if you want to go for extreme quality and cheap games, PC is the way to go. Even games on release are way cheaper, not to mention they look extremely good, unlike consoles, which most of the time have fps lock and bad textures.
If I had the money, I'd only get a console for exclusives and nothing more.

Consoles:

  • A specialized appliance, thus better at its singular purpose
  • Much more convenient to just pick up and play
  • Much more convenient to play socially with people IRL
  • A few exclusives
  • A genre or two that is better supported on consoles in general (sports games in general, for instance)
  • "It just works." Less problems.

PCs are better in pretty much every other regard

  • More powerful, better graphics
  • Better sales
  • No absence of titles, peripherals (or a gamer base) for a new PC unlike when next-gen consoles launch
  • Console gamers are fractured by three platforms and the release of next-gen consoles, which you may get at launch but your friends may wait to get until later. The only thing that fractures the PC gamer base is the ability of their hardware to run a particular game, but this mostly affects those with systems that were not purchased with gaming in mind or are very old. Linux and Mac gamers don't count because for the most part they could just install Windows.
  • While there can be difficulty with getting a game to work on PC, especially with getting older games to work, PC gamers also aren't in the habit of being forced to pay to be able to play a game they used to play on their last gaming PC, unlike console gamers.
  • Not specialized--you can do a million other things with a PC that you can't do with a console. A console gamer probably still wants to have a PC. A PC gamer doesn't need a console.
  • Several genres that are much more strongly supported on the PC.
  • Indies don't have to deal with the console manufacturers; they just have to know how to code.
  • There are usually three possibilities for games both on PC and console: 1. All platforms are developed well and the game is pretty good on any of them. 2. The developer/publisher is a bit lazy and ports from console to PC and the game is inferior only because of this laziness (or perhaps ineptitude, in the case where a lesser studio does the port). 3. The game really takes advantage of the PC and the console version(s) are vastly inferior due to hardware and policy limitations. This is especially true of games that support modding or have developers that continue adding content.

PC MODS

There are tons of games that are old as shit that still have vibrant communities because of modding. There are tons of game series that exist only because the community created a badass mod. MODS MODS MODS!

Console players can argue against most any argument except one: Mods.

The PC is objectively better because of mods. And I see many people use this as a major point as well.

It isn't just about the mods themselves, but it represents a totally different relationship between developer and user. That many, if not most, significant games include mod tools or otherwise support mod communities is a statement that user experience is as important, or more important, than the developer's myopic "vision". PC gamers are not passive consumers of content, but driving forces behind content creation and the expansion of a game beyond what the developer could come up with and harness the creative power and talents of the community at large.

In principle, it is a similar difference as between absolute monarchs of the 17th and 18th centuries and representative democracies of the 20th century.

Also, I think it helps sales. I know that I am not alone in having chosen to buy or not buy a game primarily based on the presence of good mods.

Consoles are just PCs with limitations. You can't change the operating system, upgrade it, games are more expensive and harder to make. Consoles are for stupid people. You can do everything with a PC what you can do with a console but it requires some work and thinking. DEAL WITH IT

I'm mostly a tablet gamer these days, but I have played games on console and PC, so from my point of view:

PC has always had more games of the styles I want. I enjoyed playing adventure games, RPG's, strategy games. Consoles, because of their limited control scheme, aren't that great for such games, and although games of these types do make it to consoles, especially in recent years, they're still a lot more prevalent on the PC.

The rest of the stuff I care less about. Price is lower on PC sales, but in the end that's not really that important to me, it just means I have a huge backlog of games I don't play, and I don't see anything particularly good about that. Graphics, I don't usually play graphically demanding games. Etc.

For the console side, I mainly look to consoles for alternate control schemes, such as Kinect. My kids have enjoyed quite a few games of Double Fine Happy Action Theater / Kinect Party, and that's an experience that's not available in any other way.

PC games have better prices and better visuals, thats the only plus for me.
But if you want to play something online competitive, the new gen consoles are much better since there are no cheaters at least for the moment.
On Pc I gave up playing online a long time ago.

I'm not bound to only one system, I own a SNES,PS2,PS3,Xbox360,Xbone,GBC,GB micro,NDS,PSP,PS Vita and of course my PC.
Every one of those systems has its own pros and cons but its always good to have a choice when buying games.
Also on Consoles I can lend games from friends, finish them, and give it back to them without paying anything.
If you are a true gamer you don't care about the system, but for the experience you can get from the game.
Oh and yes ofc the exclusives.......

PC GAMING IS OBJECTIVELY SUPERIOR. NO DENYING IT.

Open platform (PC) vs closed platform (console). That's the biggest differentiator.

You have so much freedom with PC gaming.

  • Customizability

  • Upgradability

  • Moddings

  • Variety of inputs

  • Multi monitor

etc..........

Also:

  • Better graphical performance, resolution and framerate. 120 fps is a thing in PC gaming.

  • Cheaper games

  • No online fees

  • Largest selection of games

  • Backward compatibilty to games more than a decade ago

  • Emulators

  • Moddings make a game last longer, add replayability etc

  • Cheaper in the long run even if you built a high-end PC

PC is:

  • cheaper to play (maybe even for free, if you are a pirate)
  • a lot of mods (opportunity to customise any game for your preferences)
  • better controllers (keyboard + mouse) for shooters

It's enough for me to make a choose to PC

PC for me and the reasons: 60fps, cheaper games, better online experience, any controller.

Keyboard/Mouse for FPS, Strategy games.
PS4 controller for Platform, Fighting, Third Person games.
Xbox 360/ONE controller for Racing, FPS, Third Person games.
Wii U Pro controler when your batteries run off. lol
Unlimited possibilities...

I believe a PC along with a Wii U can fulfill a hardcore gamer at this point (2015).
