LOL beat me to it, I'd totally bet this fake dota item that it will happen....

Luckily, valve was "fast" and the game is removed with it scam
valve don't give a duck.
One more gem for same "dev" is still in store https://store.steampowered.com/app/763980/Space_Vomit/
So this "dev" could do the same again.
I remember when Darkarta: A Broken Heart's Quest Collector's Edition developer did the same and add Portal 2 item to his in-game store.
In few days devs understood that they made stupid move with adding stolen items to HOG and removed them

Oh yeah definitely, compare it to 10 years ago. They actually do a lot more nowadays, even tho they let devs spread a lot of shit games on their platform

nowadays they do nothing. You can release game with trojan or with crypto-miner. You can release game even without .exe file - thats totally fine.
You can make joke-achievements and use google-translate with mistakes.
You can pay for reviews and add in-game items for easy profitz.
And you can use same assets to make 10 similar games with different names, generate 10k keys for each game and sell those keys to otakumaker ^^
Yes, steam store sucks xD

they're stuck between a rock and a hard place. The volume is too big to check each game manually without raising costs - but if it gets too expensive, indies can't thrive. So they need to create simple rules that are easy to enforce. But every time they add or change a rule there's massive backlash (see e,g. the recent fiasco when they tried banning porn - aka visual novels)
There is no easy answer and no simple solution. It's not that they don't care, but that they haven't figured it out at least, not without derailing the money train

There is an easy answer and simple solution, it's called curation.

that's not actually an easy and simple solution. It's actually arbitrary - how do you decide whether an early access game is going to have a future? what about something quirky and off-beat? And there are plenty of stupidly simple games that still have a market.
And that's not even considering the cost

We were talking about valve and not only the steam store.
But as I can see, you seem to be very narrow minded, maybe too young to have a proper discussion
Comment has been collapsed.
Its nice how you only focus on that and missing the context.
According to your previous replies, its pretty clear who the kid is.
But nevermind, keep on throwing your memes mister "grown up"
Kid!

See, just a sad meme addicted internet "grown up"
Your lack of grammar is a reason to laugh
You miss the whole point of beeing able to develop a game on steam.
Again... narrow minded

You are such a hypocrite, blaming valve for all the shit games, yet you collect them.
There is no difference to the real world, like having all those products that no one needs.
But it's actually funny how you got nothing else to reply.
Sadly

Again, hypocrite.... you are still leaving a response, so you still talk to me.
Are you really already lost?
Blaming valve but shoving more and more money of yours into their system.
But I guess you just keep on replying with your nonsense comments.
Stay on reddit with your lack of English grammar
Edit// I'll stay with calling you a narrow minded ... cause you are too stooopid to have a proper convo

Cute. Internet warrior that throws out memes when he got no idea what to say.
How old are you? 16?
Edit// off to work, you should try. At least in the real world you could try to be important.

What's wrong with joke achievements, in-game items, and bad translations? Those are all bad things, but most stores won't ban you for them.
Comment has been collapsed.
there's no community store in gog/origin/uplay so ofc "most stores won't ban you for them."
Thare's nothing wrong with

Some people are really creative when it comes to bad things

Good. Leave it to the Eastern Europeans to find every possible loophole in a system. We have literally 1000+ years of experience in it. :3
At least this means either people will start to actually pay some damn attention to what they are trading (hah, good joke!) or Valve will have to actually do something meaningful to look at what is happening at its own storefront (hah, even bigger joke!).
Then again, I am almost entirely sure that they will just introduce some new automation algorithm to pretend they care or some other insanely overconvoluted safety action to trades.

(yes, there are idiots that pay that much money for items)
I like how the Reddit poster shouts "HOW DOES STEAM ALLOW THIS?!!!!" meaning "how does Steam allow faking items" instead of "how does Steam allow items to be valued more than an AAA game" 👀

That's somewhat scary, the things people will do to trick another.
If a deal is too good to be true, it probably is.

Speaking of scammers, some days ago I also met a scammer who is impersonating a mannco.trade moderator. I was little bored, so we had a little chat. Here is our chat.
He still want to continue his thing. If anyone know a clever/funny way to keep this go on, tell me below. 🤔😆😅
I am really compassionate about this person for trying to pull out an good old nigerian prince scam. 🤣

Good job, Valve

... like their own store cough, and check for items that are named similarly to items from own products?

Seems like this went out of hand very fast, and Valve threw in some warning, as well as closing down most of these devs & games.
True, i hope they create a real fix sooner than later.

i don't have this "game" so can't check xD

Wow.. I never even played that game, not my genre at all (never posted/browsed Reddit too apart from some minutes xD) but.. there's literally a world beneath it.. this scam is so crazy! =\ i'm still trying to figure out how everything happened/is still happening by reading through comments and such..

I found out about this scam after watching SidAlpha's video about this yesterday
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xClkx9UzsmE
Valve does not care about shovelware and asset flips, I do not see them cracking down on this form of scam fast enough to make a real difference, right now it's small with just a couple of games doing it. Wonder what it will look like once we give it a few weeks...
