So I was just checking steam headlines and I saw XCOM: Enemy Unknown was already available for pre-order, and I thought I'd give it a look. That's when I saw this:

What the actual fuck

It amazes me the new type of bullshit devs/publishers seem to be coming up with.

EDIT:
I find this even better. First screenshot was taken at the time this post was made, 1-2 hours ago. This screen was just taken. Here Notice anything strange? (Tip: Check the percentages)

I don't understand what's the problem. I don't remeber Steam forcing me to pre-orden anything.

But well, people have the right to complain for every stupid thing they want.

I don't want this game, I don't care for this game, I won't ever buy this game. The problem is the system they chose to use for pre-orders. If the game isn't as successful as the devs/publishers expect it to be, you and everyone else who pre-order it get nothing. If this system was only for 2k games I wouldn't give a shit but this will most probably catch on and be used by other companies.

you wouldnt get nothing, you would get the game you paid for, i didnt no preorder bonuses were an entitlement. I much prefer a straight up system where you know exactly what you are getting for a bonus but I have preordered many games in the past and recieved NOTHING extra. It is no big deal

This is the point. I like to know what I'm buying. I don't care if it comes with a bonus or not, but when that bonus depends on the game's success that is bullshit.

Yes, I posted a lot in this thread, your point? I wonder what train of thought you had when you arrived to the conclusion that posting a lot = wanting the game. I have barely mentioned the game, I don't give a shit for it and I barely know what it is about, what bothers me is the pre-order mode that they chose.

I highly doubt they're gonna do this for every single pre order from here on out, this was probably something they just wanted to try, if they do it again they will likely only do it for extremely popular games(like xcom) or games that are really hyped up and look interesting to a lot of people. Like if a new Elder Scrolls game was coming out and they were still doing this they would probably do it for that, but if there was an indie game that is expected to be good they probably wouldn't because indie games tend to be purchased less.

Obviously they are not going to do this for every game. Not every game has pre-order bonuses to begin with, but no doubt that we will start seeing this more often.

I don't see a problem with it, I've seen pre-order bonuses for rockstar games change radically on steam(some better and some worse), how is this any different?

How come they don't have a bar for Dishonored? I got that preordered.

Um, this is the first Steam game to use this system. Dishonored doesn't.

Am I the only one who's surprised and bothered to see that most people are fine with pre-ordering? I find this behavior almost mind-boggling. Especially considering that most games, both big and small, are crap. But then again, I almost never buy a game before its had its final patch.

I enjoy pre-ordering because it guarantees I can get a copy of a game, but I usually do it for lesser known games like most of NIS Americas library. And I usually only do it for collectors editions since most stores don't stock it.

Then again, on Steam you're pretty sure to get the game whether you pre-ordered or not. This is usually the special pre-order price or bonuses that will et people to buy the game before it's released.

This, either pre-order discounts or getting DLC content that actually impacts gameplay (like mecromancer in Borderlands 2) without being screwed over and forced to pay more for it for wanting to pick the game up at the beginning to play instead of waiting for the GOTY with all the DLC bundled in.

NIS America games are on consoles, not steam. They are usually not at my local stores unless someone preorders them.

As long as its some cosmetic bullshit, I dont give a damn. And screw hats too.

But if they were to have this with actually gameplay changing content... I would definitely agree that its bullshit.

who preorders games anyways?Only way i would preorder if it was a pychicall copy because those go away fast and if i was getting like bonus content that nobody else could get if they bought it on release date or after that was worth while to get.

I don't pre order after I pre ordered dead island and it turned out kicking a dead half eaten rat around a dead octopus in the middle of London with a French flag shouting bomb at a crazy person who has a gun that looks like you just slept with his mother is more fun.

I seriously don't know what the problem is. The fact that they are giving multiple rewards for the amount of pre-orders is pretty awesome. You're buying the game anyways, anything else is just a bonus (and not really important). No one is forcing you to pre-order, they're giving you incentives that you can look forward to.

Also, the percentages are probably encountering the same problem that Greenlight is. They're all over the place from one hour to the next.
