It's quitea good game for me.
Main pros:
Marcial Arts
Good story
Enjoyable driving
-Cons
The camera is quite bad sometimes
You might need a controller (And if you do so, please turn auto aim off)
Not many guns

The combo-system is a bit bad for K+M but what you loose there you will regain it on the aiming.
Driving is easier with a gamepad too.
And to the OP, try to skip as many DLC as possible, nearly no one is worth the money.

If you're a PC gamer without a controller these days... you're only hurting yourself. With so many games being targeted mainly at consoles, and how much better these type of 3rd person games are with a controller, you're doing yourself a disservice not to have one. Unless you only like FPS or mouse-driven games (point and clicks adventures, Diablo, ect).
Lack of gun variety didn't bother me, as most of it was about the martial arts. There were only a handful of shooting missions.

Is not a major drawback but I though it was a good thing to know.
It's is true that the quite good combat system kinda balances the lack of guns. Anyway the ambientation is quite good, I'll definitely buy it again for that price.

Most popular games on console ARE FPS games, which are always best on PC anyway. More customization, better graphics, easier portability (On laptops anyway) for LAN, no charge for playing online, easier controls, smoother aiming, and the ability to multitask. (Listen to music, alt+tab, etc.)
Otherwise the only other popular games are ones that were also released on PC. And most of the time, those games get added features. If not more features, modders go batshit crazy on it and improve the hell out of it.

this is one of the few fighting type games that works fine with k + m tbh

It's really good. The only GTA-like game I've finished, mostly because I usually get bored of them after a while. Not a case with Sleeping Dogs!

I liked it. GTA-ish, with a cinematically good story and lots of really well-done melee options.
I'm at 98.63% game completion (yes, the game tracks it to two decimal places...) -- not sure if I'll bother with 100% unless the DLC goes on sale for everything in one pack (the Triad upgrades are just slightly tougher than the Cop upgrades if you're not trying to get them ahead of time, so without the DLC it's tough (not impossible, just time-consuming) to max it.)
Downside: a few unfinished elements (most disorientingly, the "girlfriend" storylines (yes, plural...)), but on the whole, it doesn't detract too much from the experience.

Oh dear god. I just noticed all the DLC... I really hate when games do that kind of stuff =/

Skip all, the only ones that migh be worth trying are the Nightmare in NorthPoint one and the Street Racer pack, but they are stupidly expensive.
The new one looked good too, but I haven't checked it

Nightmare in North Point is $2.37 USD right now, which isn't TOO bad. It's quite short DLC, though, providing maybe up to 2 hours of entertainment.

I got it at its launch for 4€, which is helluva lot.
I think I got like 1.5h out of it. It's entertaining but too expensive, at that price is not a very bad purchase.

Yeah, I got it for $4.99 and and some cheaper amount at $3.xx on GMG when it first came out. Then they raised it to $6.99 the next day on Steam without saying a word.

I got it for free with my 7900 Series card purchase back in August 2012 (if only I had known that a couple months later I would have gotten Sleeping Dogs, Hitman: Absolution, and Far Cry 3 for free with the exact same purchase) and hadn't even really looked into it at all. It was free, so that price tag made me much more inclined to give it a try!
Let me tell you, I really fuckin' dug it. It's like GTA, but executed in a much better fashion. The counter system, shooting, driving, atmosphere, graphics (with high-res pack). I don't know, I really liked it. It was quite fun. I'd have played more by now, but goddamn, I get distracted and my game library keeps growing and I switch between a bunch of different games.

I played the game a lot, just after Saints Row: The Third, and the game is freakin' good, have a great emphasis in hand-to-hand combat, having a combat mechanic more like the two new batmans game, not as polished, but it's good, also this emphasis break a lot the common pistols and smg combat that this kind of game have, making some kind of unique experience. I actually recommend this game, and i think this price is great. Go for it.

I found that the counter system is far more reliable in SD as opposed to Arkham Asylum (haven't tried AC yet).

The combat is pretty damn nice. Multiple counters, disarms, special moves to increase Face and demoralize opponents, grapples, environmental throws, finishing moves, spinning and jumping kicks, combos, etc. Sounds pretty damn varied to me and looks damn cool to boot. The driving is not much different than other games (but how much different can driving be?) and it feels smooth enough to me and the combat in/on cars is great.

NiNP is only $2.37 USD right now, but only provides 1-2 hours of content.

The worst thing about it for me, was the story. I thought it would be more interesting or give you more choices with different endings. It felt very anti climatic by the end of the final mission. That being said, the game has some interesting characters and cool missions. Hong Kong looks great and the vehicles have NICE controls. I like the hand to hand combat (the guns suck although they sound awesome).
That's about it!

I was also a bit disappointed by the story. It had some interesting ideas, but it felt underdeveloped.

Feel free to spoil the game. Go ahead, sure that nobody will care....

I don't think I spoiled anything, but I edited my post so people don't bitch anyway.

I fail to see how telling the ending of Sleeping Dogs is not spoiling it but well..

I didn't tell the ending of Sleeping Dogs or what's going to happen in the story, I was just saying that the game gives you the illusion of choice but that you can't actually make them, you can't be the bad guy if you want for example. There's only one ending. Any review can tell you that.

I have like 85% completed and I have played 27h. For 40 you'll have to iddle around a lot.
The main story can easily be beaten in like 15hrs or so, but with all sidequests and races and bitching you can get it easily up to 30.

Thats still more then I expected to be honest.
Sounds good.

I figure I will hit about that much, I like messing around in these types of games, I mean I got 50 on SR3 and didn't even like it as much as SR2(Had about 80 hours in that one before I got it on Steam).

Loved it. Pre Ordered it and really enjoyed it. Lack of a lot of gun play was not a problem at all because the melee combat is really fun. It's very similar to Batman's combat so if you liked that you'll enjoy Sleeping Dogs. The cars also handle really well making racing missions actually fun.

Dumped 30+ hours into it, is really fun, but I wouldn't say it's worth more than 15-20€ (2 DLC's included).
Comment has been collapsed.
Unfortunately it runs like garbage on my system. I've been told it's a great game, but it's no fun to play when I get shitty FPS all the time even though I meet the requirements.
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't like it one bit, the physics feel strange, the driving is bad and I could not get in the story at all... I'm sorry to say it but the game really feels like a graphics polished 2007 game.
Comment has been collapsed.
That is not what i wanted to say. I wanted to say that it is a 2007 game engine with 2012 graphics.

I haven't heard much about it, and the reviews I've looked up are mix-matched.
Looking for some actual gamers perspectives on the game, pros, cons, and if it's worth the current sale price. Thanks!
