Nvidia is now offering to give free Batman: Arkham City Steam keys to those who buy a qualifying GeForce video card. The game itself will still require GfWL, but this key activates the game on your Steam account (it should work just like Batman: Arkham Asylum on Steam).

This landing page lists all of the participating retailers around the world:
http://www.geforce.com/landingpage/free-batman

Obviously you may have your own motives for taking advantage of the deal (you just happen to need to buy a video card now, or you want to buy and then resell a card for the free copy of Batman: Arkham City, etc.). I don't know anything about Nvidia cards, maybe someone else on this forum can pitch in their recommendations...

Nice of them to do it, but why Arkham City? Sure it looks nice but it's not the most demanding game out there at the moment. If they really want to show off the muscle of the lastest Nvidia GPU's they should give out a copy of Crysis 2 or Battlefield 3.

Currently I am planning on buying the MSI 580GTX Twin Frozr II. Not only is it fast, but it is also very quiet and efficient at cooling. Dice used the 580GTX in their PC's that ran Battlefield 3 at E3 and Gamescom.

Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 on Steam? I don't think so...
Nvidia probably has an exclusive agreement with Steam, since all previous promotions were Steam keys as well.

Getting a game that was released in 2007 that you can get for $10 is not much of an incentive to buy a high end GPU.

They could provide Origin keys. Make a deal with EA, I'm sure they would like such a thing to promote their new digital platform.

It works well as a pack in title due to PhysX. Emphasize one of the biggest selling points you have over ATi as far as games are concerned.
Either vendor has cards that can handle the nicest games in DX11. By pushing Batman they can emphasize something only they can do.
Market what differentiates you from the competition, not what the competition can do equally well.

I'd be happy to buy such a key, but I don't think anyone would sell it for a lesser price than that in the Steam store.

Hopefully a few copies will become giveaways like Dirt 3 did. Also I think there is a similar promotion with Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

I think that the offer is not really a cause for concern. This deal requires the person to shell out around $200 for a high end video card to get a "free" game. It's not going to be quite as rampant as say, Portal, which was free to any Internet person who can surf the web and run Steam.

Exactly, and NVIDIA isn't "special" enough to leave plain-text files on the web that allows you to circumvent needing an actual code...
