Make new friends don't hang onto memories of old ones because people change

i sort with the tags by game or how i met and if i notice the person changes images and name often i use the nickname option and put in the name i know them by.

isn't it bothersome to do it everytime though? do you have any suggestion to make it easier?

its no trouble to set a tag after you accept friend request. organizing an unsorted list of over 200 would be a dif story.
i played ark and every1 uses the name 123 so i had to learn to use the nickname's

now i have more than 200 friends and it might take a long time to analyze.. but thanks for the suggestion

Why would you need to do that for all 200 friends?
Just add nicknames/notes to some special people you really care about and that's it. I do this with 7 of my friends, the rest just ends up in categories, which is sufficient to identify most of them.

i communicate with a lot of people time to time so it's kinda meaningful to me.

yeah.. steam recently made that. i should use that one often thx

Currently have 21 friends and tend to remove them every now and then until I'm left with the important ones.
Most I've gotten up to is like 50 at a time and yeah it definitely gets confusing sometimes. Even now if I have someone who I don't recognise immediately I question how they got there. Or I have had the few people who changed their names who I did talk to but because this was before you could delete your name changes I could find them that way
I feel the best way is to just do the nickname option. It's much easier then bookmarking everyones profile
I've had someone who ran out of friendship spaces in the 1k region and wanted more spots. I don't know how anyone could handle that. I definitely couldn't since I like looking at the activity page and its enough with the few I have

oh i usually add people with lots of reviews so i have more than 200 friends now..
maybe only keeping friends that i communicate often might be the solution..

I rarely add/accept people, and with a list with less than 100 ppl it's not that hard to keep track of - though I do give nicknames to those that have a tendency to change pic/name.
To be honest though when someone deletes me I try to figure out who, but it rarely happens as well.
In the past I had more steam friends, but didn't talk with 99% of them.

i usually don't talk with steam friends that much
but i do enjoy talking when i'm sure they have some knowledge of the game that im interested in.
Those memories of conversation remain so pleasant sometimes that although i don't talk with them that much, i still want to be their friends.

personally, I ordered them by importance from top to bottom (first is my sister)
and at the second part by games where we met if it's just a not closer gaming friend.

so you only keep friends that talk a lot to you on steam? don't steam friends feel kinda different from usual friends that you talk through facebook and such? Does real friend and steam friend feel same to you?

I keep it clean, i don't have a lot (around 20), but i categorize them from procedence e.g. friends IRL, SteamGifts, game X and so on. Also tag them as well if i need to remember more details or looks like a fishy account.

You can use this website I made for you guys: https://steamfriends.info
Once you logged on, you can see any friends nickname changes and even removed friends.
PS: the tracking starts the day you logged on the website the first time, it can't guess what you did have before.

It's safe and very useful, you can sort friends by country (if they have one set in their profile), you can filter by action (name changed, friend added, friend deleted, etc.) and you can use the search bar to type an old name you remember and any changes will show up.

cant you simply ask them to install a spyware to keep track on them?
and just in case they refuse, you can also give your friends on steam nicknames so even if they change their names, you should know who is who
btw: if you lost some friends, if you know their names here on steamgifts, you can still find them^^

i just add 'nickname', which is first name i just meet ppl+sign of language(PL,EN,DE etc). So even they change name i know who they are

Steam, or at least Augmented steam has an option to add a nickname to a user's steam profile
Add Nickname
Add a persistent nickname to this player to keep track of who they are.

i had such a good time with friends that I met here but some of them change their profiles and i did some too
sometimes i miss them so much that i look up to talk to them but it's impossible to keep track of them. I think some people erase me from their friend list because it's been some days since i've talked to them and after changing my profile, they lost track of me too.
What should I do to keep track of good steam friends?
