I know my chances of winning are not affected by my comments (or lack thereof), I always read the giveaway description, and I always say "thanks." Absolute statements refuted.

the die giveaways + the thanks on them are most likely been posted by Easy Steamgifts. (joining and commenting)
still it is a nice thing to thanks people for the chance of winning.
because whit out those people who drop a GA there would be no GA at all.
it is a bit sad to see that you are annoyed by people being friendly...

I`ve created a GA, I´m answering all the comments even the "thanks" comments.

Most of us aren't ungrateful children who think they're entitled to win something and we acknowledge that the person offering the GA is under no obligation to do so, maybe? As someone who's hosted GAs on a couple of different forums and games here, I like knowing my generosity is appreciated but this affects the outcome of a GA in no way whatsoever.

You are new on steam gifts, and yes most of people here do not read descriptions and just do copy pasted "thanks" on the giveaways. I'm not saying everyone do it, but many people do. And u don't necessary need to say "thanks" to show ur gratitude, i would be much more happy if someone just read my description on the giveway rather than receive a wall of thanks text.

to say to others that they new to steamgifts because others copy paste thanks.
shows only about your less knowledge about what is out there and what not.
a plugin doesn't read description...
but again it can show off that people are at-least thank full unlike others who don't.

I used to say thanks, to be polite... but after a couple of users were severely annoyed by this, I stopped.
Now I only comment if something other than "thanks" is asked of or suggested in the description of the GA.

Exactly, people are spending their hard earned money to give away a game out of the goodness of their own hearts. When I say thanks I'm not saying it because I think it will help my chances. I know the odds are generally really high on this site so I'm genuinely surprised (and grateful) when I see a win.

Because of karma.
Once I created a GA (not in this site), and the only user that said "thanks" was the winner.

I'm beginning to feel this topic might be another one to add to "the list"....
...and my personal favorite...

Everything he said. People have the strangest beliefs about altering their chances of winning (or are convinced the giveaway creator outright chooses someone from the entries, you can tell by some comments). Also, the unhealthy obsession some groups have about comment/entry ratio, which only leads to shitposting just for the "+1" or scripts for auto-thanks, which pretty much defeats the purpose.
If the giveaway creator asks something in the description, I'll answer. If the description or the gift have something special, I'll address that. Otherwise, I'll most likely not leave a comment to a blank GA.

I think the spammed thanks are only because of thinking it will increase their chance.
Try making a giveaway sometime where you tell people not to say thanks, but do something else instead. You'll be deluged with thanks.
If they were truly thankful, they would have read the giveaway.
I thank people once I win. That way, those people can get honest thanks rather than spammed identical messages that mean nothing.

There are all sorts of great browser plug ins for SG (i.e. SG+) Some plug-ins have auto-commenters and I believe the default comment is simply "Thanks".
I imagine some people think it increases their chances to comment, but it doesn't. I think you'd see a lot more unique comments if that was a permeating thought.

I thanks because it's the polite thing to do.
The user bought a game with his own money, and is giving it away here, asking nothing in return. The least I can do is comment a sincere "Thank you" comment. I know that not everyone will read my thank you comments, but I'm sure some of them will read my comment and feel great about giving away a game. :)

Another +1. I even appreciate it when people say thank you on giveaways I create.

Oh shet. I wunt it. Huw many times? 10k? Pls duvid i ned to knuw.

I only did it because it seemed nice since you're giving away a game that you just traded for or just bought with your own money.

I say thanks because I think it's a nice thing to do.
When I first started entering giveaways I didn't always comment, I'll admit that. When I first started making them I found that I liked it when people showed appreciation and would read all the comments. Call that ego if you like as it made me feel good, but it's what happened.
I then thought that if I like reading these then maybe others do too. From then on I decided to comment on every giveaway I entered.
So I like to say thanks as it might mean something to the giveaway creator, just like it did with me and it might make him or her feel happy. It takes a few seconds, so why not?

because someone took the time, effort and expense (no matter how much) to put a game on here for someone to win. in a world where you get "nothing for free" I am very grateful to those who allow others to have some fun and a chance to win some amazing games. so to all those people I say thanks :)

I've always hated when I would make a public giveaway and would have 500 entries and like 10 comments.
So I like to be one of the few people who can take 2 seconds of their day to say thank you for the chance.

► Because that person made the giveaway for us. Also I mostly say good luck to others, because I know some of them or even me will be the lucky person. ► Just want to be thankful and respect the others. :) ► Good luck for your chances guys! Wish me luck too. ;) ► Oh also, it definitely NOT INCREASE any rate of winning chances.

I do it because my parents raised me to be both polite and considerate.

I understand that being nice is just a nice thing to do and I have no problem with that. To my understanding however winners are chosen at random and whether you leave a comment saying thanks or not you probability of winning the giveaway is still the same correct?
It just appears to me that some people think it will increase their chances of winning?
