Why do people say thanks in giveaways?
To thank the creator of the giveaway for creating the giveaway.

Lest's be honest, the only reason is because people think they are having bigger chance to win. And it's not free , you get a game like free and the creator get better cv. Better CV means bigger chances for contributor giveaways where there are given much better games. It's all a buisness. One more thing, the crerators mostly giveaway games that they were free, or almost free (bunch of humble bundle). Rarely people giveaway good titles, really worth, most of the thime just crap.

You must be a blast at parties. Anyways...opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and a lot of them are full of crap...I say "thank you" to giveaway creators because I was brought up with good manners and it's the polite thing to do. Never once have I thought it would increase my chances of winning. But, hey, to each his own I guess.

Yes, you upset me greatly. Going to go sulk in a corner now.
/sarcasm
You posted an ignorant comment (or a horrible troll attempt) and we responded in turn. With your 100 comments and 1500 entries, I don't think you are saying "thank you" much anyways. Cheers, mate!

When i get something i say thanks, when i entering a giveaway i never say thanks because it's pontless. When i see a bunch od deadbreed, final slam 2, metro 2033 from decembar 2012 giveaway, and so on, the list is really huge i get a rash. And when i get duplicate product code from a giveaway...... i think you got a picture.

I say thank you because I'm grateful that I can win THAT game. It can be crap to you, but for example I entered like a dozen Cook, Serve, Delicious giveaways, then when I didn't win, bought it. Yes, it's 1$, but some people here give us a chance to actually win it for free. Plus they decide that they give it to somebody who would love it, instead of keeping it, claiming but never playing, and so on.

You're saying that you're grateful for the chance of winning a game. It doesn't help your chances of winning at all (as far as I know). But it's just showing you're not some asshole that's like "OOOOOH FREE GAME!". Because these people really don't have to give shit away.

It stands for "thanks for the chance"
Express appreciation to the owner of the giveaway.

I like to express my thank you IF i have WON a game, then i show my excsesive thank you to the game giveawayer. it only makes sence to do so. But thanking for the game being given away is a good thing, i dont think its wrong but reqieres far too much typing and not realy worth it if you dont win, which i dont realy, for a good long while now. Increasing chance by commenting is something a idiot must have thought of.

Nothing alters the odds, the FAQ says so, so, that's the stupidest thing I've read today.
There once was this amazing thing called manners, people used to have them. It's nice to thank people when they do nice things.

If I will I certainly will thank the person either way since giving the gift requires personal contact...
I've actually never read any comments in my own giveaways because of the "Thanks"-spam - I just think that half of these comments could as well be bots that just thank every giveaway, and I KNOW that people who enter this giveaway enter because it's a game they are interested in and the are glad that there's a chance to win this game for free...
If the winner isn't thanking the creator that's another thing and would be rude - just the (small) chance of winning isn't really enough (for me) to be that thankful (perhaps if it's an exceptional giveaway worht more than most)...

I don't think anyone thinks that. But people do like to keep their comment to giveaway ratio pretty close.

I only really joined steamgifts to give away a few things - there's been some sad times in my life recently and giving stuff away makes me feel good :) - I like to read the comments even if it's just the perfunctory 'thx' and les be honest - it doesn't really cost you anything but a few seconds of consideration :3

True.
And wow, I checked you profile, you never even entered a giveaway but gave four great games away! I don't do this often but... Tips virtual hat

If it's a short giveaway, I say thanks if I remember. I don't bother if it's a weeklong one that will draw 82 billion entries, because come on.
I say thanks because I'm not an immensely rude troll and if people are going to give me something for nothing, it's the least one can do.

I understand that being nice is just a nice thing to do and I have no problem with that. To my understanding however winners are chosen at random and whether you leave a comment saying thanks or not you probability of winning the giveaway is still the same correct?
It just appears to me that some people think it will increase their chances of winning?
