I live in Seattle (Go Hawks! Go Sounders!)
Grew up on the east coast, moved to Africa when I was 11 (really) but came to Seattle every summer cause I had a bunch of family here. Ultimately I moved here (well...to Tacoma...) for college in '07 and moved to Seattle in '11 once I graduated. Can't really see myself living anywhere else. I think it's a combination of stuff that makes me want to stay. Part of it is the mountains/water/trees and greenness that all comes together to make a stunning package. But the other part is that there's so much going on here in terms of tech, food, music, activism, it's just awesome. (We even voted for a socialist city councilmember...unheard of in the US) Not to mention the recent legalization of a certain medicinal herb....
The weather sucks half the year (or more sometimes) but the summers make up for it! Unfortunately, it's finally starting to rain so I guess I'll have to break out the hoodie and jacket again...
What was your favorite stuff to do here? I used to live on Capitol Hill (hipster central :P ) and the Asian Art Museum (and Volunteer Park) were awesome. They had a constantly rotating exhibit of 19th century snuff bottles/boxes from China, it pretty cool.

yay!!! Seattle person!!
I lived on the back side of Capitol Hill, so I literally was in the heart of Seattle. Take the #2 bus and it would drop you on the same street I lived and just had to walk over a couple blocks. I miss the mountains and ocean/sounnd; the green EVERYWHERE was nice and I miss that.
I would always walk up and over the hill on nice summer days, grab a snack and we go over to Cal Anderson Park for a bit. Then go get groceries and either walk home or ride the bus. Volunteer Park was always lovely, and it was really nice once they redid the playground and cleaned it up. Then the Arboretum was esp wonderful in spring and autumn. Going for a night drive along Alki. My friend and I would go for drives down to Tacoma often, since that is where the nearest Sonic Drive-thru was. We'd go to Pt Defiance Zoo or even to the park there. Always tried to do the Puyallup every fall. Or if we got bored of any that stuff, day trip: Hop on the ferry to Bainbridge and wander that spot or go up to Poulsbo. Once in a while even day trips up to Snoqualmie Pass or over to Leavenworth/Wenatchee.

Ahhh, Point Defiance....spent many, many afternoons there during my college days. That park is huge!

I live in Seattle. Love Salmon, the rain, and the scenery. There are a lot of junkies in certain areas but I suppose there are spots like that in every city. The mountains are loads of fun, whether you want to hike or ski/snowboard. Stevens pass is my favorite but thats a little further out there, haven't been there in a while though. You mentioned festivals, I haven't really been to many lately but when my family came from Poland we went to a lot of them.
I see you lived in Capitol hill, I used to visit some people who lived on Thomas street all the time. I loved it up there especially when they moved all the junkies out of the area. I've always wanted to buy a condo up there.

Live there? Or used to? Visited or plan to ever visit?
If you fit one the above, thoughts on it. What do you like most about it? What did/do you hate most about it?
I moved up there when I was 18, the December after 9/11. Love it in many ways, but isn't the same place it was. Moved back to Texas a year ago. I miss some the stuff, like Pike Place Market and the waterfront when there aren't herds of tourist everywhere. I loved West Seattle, esp the view of downtown and the waterfront at night. Daytime panaromia I did as well. I miss being able to jump on a bus and going somewhere (but then again, hated that they had cut back on the routes in recent yrs and fare was more than double that of when I moved there; that price hike actually took place over the course of 2-3 yrs a few yrs ago). Miss being able to walk up and over the hill to my favorite park with my kids or to the store. Summers weren't that hot and the daylight lasted forever (but summer was always too short). Didn't care for winter; so long, so dark, the cold, grey drizzle. Spring and autumn, super short but the burst of colors were amazing and made for great photos. Cherry blossoms in spring. All the festivals and events (except that some were no longer as cool as they used to be). Miss my favorite second hand store; that place was a treasure trove of goodies.
So much to do in and around there too, if you were bored of Seattle itself.
In many ways, I miss it and hope I get to go back to visit some day. But some things about it, I will never miss. Anytime I come upon something to do with Seattle, I feel a sudden rush of love and nostalgia for the place.
