Postknight 2, Asphalt 9 and CSR2 are decent if you don't mind general mobile game bullshittery, otherwise Nonograms Katana and Microsoft Solitaire Collection are great public transit time wasters.

Thanks for suggestion, but already played Asphalt 9 before and not liked (get the sensation to play Asphalt 8 with less cars, less number of tracks and weaker gameplay), and CSR2 are only drag race so not interested ...
Shared Microsoft Solitaire Collection with my family member.

The only mobile game I play.

It's free but gacha, though you don't have to spend anything. It's great if rhythm games are your thing.

You didn't see the twitter post where they announced the launch and shutdown of the game in the same tweet? :D

I... didn't.
Well, I don't need English to play it so downloading the JP app right now. However it seems I've waited long for nothing apparently, in the end I'm still downloading the JP one :) Another Japanese game shuts down global, to be honest no surprises there. If I've seen the tweet, wouldn't bother with global at all.

That's a weird flex. :D

Oh my, that IS wild! :/ SIF 1 was totally fine and they shut it down, and if they're gonna shut this one too, I wonder what is their exit plan (assuming there is any). That's a huge project to collapse. If they let that happen, it would be just sad.

I tried the JP app, and it has optimization issues. Maybe that's the reason they won't continue the global version. It seems they already have many negative reviews on Japan. I guess I'll keep it around to see if it will improve performance-wise but I must say it's hard to full-combo like this, so it kinda sucks the fun part. Well, I'm disappointed. -_-

Star Rail and Genshin Impact are both amazing, despite being gacha.
Genshin's an open world ARPG, and Star Rail's a turn-based JRPG. Genshin is mainly fantasy with some sci-fi elements, and Star Rail is sci-fi with fantasy.
Common between them: The free characters are good enough for anything in the maingame, and the games are generous enough with free premium currency that you can pull enough 5-stars for free to keep your head above water with the challenge modes. No PVP, so there's no need to worry about keeping up with other people. Also, there's a good balance of male and female characters, and there isn't a single pair of watermelon boobs bouncing around like the gacha stereotype. It's all kept to suggestive outfits at most.

Vampire's Fall Origins
Vendir Plague of Lies
Exiled Kingdoms (awesome game, there's a free trial version to try out)
Champions of Avan
Territorial.io
2048
Demise of Nations
J2ME Loader (java emulator so you can play ancient mobile games like doom and that tower-dropping-building game)

Buriedbornes
It will be completed free of charge, as you will get the items for the billing in the game.
However, it is different from your desired game and genre and is for those who like slightly older games.
(2 of this game came out recently, but that one is still being tweaked, so I wouldn't recommend it)

Yeah, I might recommend this one.

If you play shooter games, PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile are your best bets.
Not sure how they would run on 4GB of RAM, though. These games get more demanding every update, so...

For your casual family member, I'd recommend the classics, Candy Crush and the likes.

Not sure, didn't try. I think I never played it on my phone, if at all, lol.

Was about to recommend Ticket to Earth, then realized it's $5. (It's been a while since I got it.) I still think it's worth the cost, but it's up to you whether that's a non-starter. (I guess this is still me recommending it.)

Race The Sun Challenge Edition is fun. And even though there are in-app purchases, you don't need any of it. I just can't vouch for how good or bad it is regarding ads, because I bought the premium version of it years ago. I do see optional ad-supported revives and boosts, however.
I wish I knew of more good free games to recommend.

I only play one game on my phone right now it's punishing gray raven has the best combat for a mobile game. Some game that I think you will like are race against the sun, the map of this game changes everyday, then 50 loops it gets boring after you can no longer clear stages but is definitely worth a try! Then you can try parasite days there is a parasite on your hand also the other games made by this developer are really good. Death palette has one of the best story and it has a lot of death endings but getting those endings is pretty fun.

If you have Netflix I suggest checking out all the Netflix games since they will be free to play for you :)
Simply search for Netflix in the Google Play store, open the app, scroll down to the Other games published by Netflix section, and click on it. None of the games will have adds or microtransactions :).

Soul Knight is a neat roguelike that runs on mobile. Would recommend.

My time has come to finally recommend something. Battle Cats is the best mobile game in my eyes, genuinely, it might be gacha but the fact that you can complete the game with free win characters is great, gacha really is just an extra addition that can help you but Is not needed, its a partly strategy/tower defense? And very active, collabs happen semi monthly and the rewards are great for new and older players. Great game and frankly the only mobile game i play at this point.

Diablo: Immortal.
The game itself is quite P2W heavy when you try to be really competetive. However, you can still play through this just for the story, experience the content and once you feel like you have seen it all or that you are getting clubbed to death by everyone and evreything, just uninstall it :)
