I got FTL gifted to me, and I'm honestly not enjoying it that much. Ignoring the fact that I'm just fucking terrible -FUCKING. TERRIBLE- at it, easy mode still seems pretty hard. I started of with the Zoltan ship and a rebel rigger completely destroyed my ship by setting it on fire and such. I couldn't do anything because, well, the game doesn't start you off with enough power to actually use your weapons effectively, and my whole damn ship was either broken or on fire.

In a rather non-rage comment... I seriously do think this game is very hard. Either I'm unlucky, or I just don't know a secret way to move through sections.

TL;DR I fucking hate FTL because I suck at it. Anyone else having doubts about the game?

I played it only 2 times but it is good game I think. First attempt was pure fail, while in second attempt I got to the final, yet I ended up destroyed. D:

Although I'd gifted it once and heard a lot about it, I generally don't like roguelikes, so I gave it a pass until it dropped to $2.50.
I'd say I like it, but I don't love it.
It kind of reminds me of a much more in-depth version of Blendo's Flotilla. The randomness to the encounters and choices definitely means you may be horribly screwed over or incredibly lucky or anywhere in between. This is why I generally don't like roguelikes -- I don't usually enjoy games where the die rolls can instantly change the game (for or against you) while making an uninformed decision.
However!, like Flotilla, there is enough of an element of strategy involved that, while the game can definitely be unfair at times, you can find enough things that "work better" to make it a fun game.
On easy, I got to the last boss on my second or third try (and died on, I think, the last battle). But I also had watched a playthrough of it months earlier, so I already knew the basics of having people at their stations, and being able to use the doors to put out fires and suffocate intruders.

Have I ever beaten it? No. But I got a few hours of fun out of it. So yes, I think it was worth it. Considering I got it from a Bundle even, I think?

Before I bought it I watched TotalBiscuit's "WTF is" to see what's the game like, and apparently I learned a lot from it. To my surprise, I managed to reach the end on my first try. I was then horribly murdered by the final boss because I wasn't strong enough, lol. :)

Let me start with this: Easy mode and Normal is actually: Normal and Super Hard.

Second- This game is hard, but it gets easier. And some people have a knack for these kind of games. This game is AMAZING. It's my second favorite game of all time. I got my money's worth ($5 during the Winter Sale). I found out about it from a streamer I used to watch. I;ve beaten it before, and have almost all the ships (Just need Rock B and Slug A+B).

SO the answer- YES. YES YES YES YES YES YES YES

It's one of my favorite games. Look through a guide a little or something. Also, remember, losing is fun.

I've been playing it for a while now and still haven't finished it. I always get to the end, the first phase of the rebel flagship fight and when the flagship escapes the drones kill me. But it's a really addictive game. I keep coming back to it.

I've never beaten it and sunk 50 hours in to it and will keep coming back from time to time I'm sure. Worth every cent.

This is the nature of roguelike games -- high difficulty, procedurally-generated regions, random events and items, and no way to return to a prior save upon death. A lot of the challenge of such games is learning where you went wrong on your latest attempt, and trying to find ways to take optimal paths and get around the big obstacles.

One thing I've found that helps in the early game: don't rush to the warp gate. Take your time, explore as much as you can without getting caught.

The funny thing is, half the time it doesn't even seem like I did anything wrong. The opposing ship was just stronger.

put in at least 5 hrs; check ftl wiki if you're really finding it too difficult; unlock the mantis ship (easiest ship to beat the game with)

I like it, wish there was a mode where I could explore longer, build a crew a ship... and not be on the run the entire game, die within 2 hours, and start from scratch every time. I like the concept, wish there was more depth and easier difficulty.

ABSOLUTELY utilize the pause feature. There is just too much going on to give orders real time and the game was built around this feature. Use it to time your shots.

If it counts, I played the flash version. I found it simple.

Of course, this is nothing like Super Meat Boy.

Keep playing and you get better. It's the type of game that makes you feel like you are improving yourself all the time. It won't auto-adjust it's difficulty down to your level just so you can always win. Winning on this game is hard, but when you do, it's a good feeling. I sucked pretty hard at first too and now im doing ok on normal difficulty. Don't give up so easily.

Try some mods if you're having trouble, it'll help you get started. For instance, there's a mod to disable the fleet, which allows you to spend time in each sector finding ships to kill to make more scrap and get more experience with the game in general. There's also several mods designed to help you along the way with opportunities to find more scrap or equipment.
