No, I get that... But I usually only make two sectors in before I'm bombed to hell.

It's a strategy game. Try something new each time you play - for example, upgrading your shields sooner and sacrificing another upgrade. Remember that you should be exploring each sector as thoroughly as you can until you're in danger of the opposing fleet.

Maybe you should give it another try. That game is really fun, even if you rarely win it. I played it for 50 hours before I won it for the first time on easy. I've never even attempted normal. Overall, bought it for $8.99 the day it came out, worth every penny.

I had issues at first, always got to the finish line AKA final boss and always had trouble when he gotten his health back, get some more ships unlocked, they come with different stuff you can put in them, I like the engi ship because it has robots that can fix and I found a robot that fix hull for 2 scrap (fixes like 9 hull damage something like that) really useful.

This game is missing a tutorial for some reason. It's intended for players to keep learning with their mistakes. You'll get better every time you try to finish it, and it will give you very pleasurable sense of achievement when you finish it for the first time. Yeah, it's different from most games nowadays, where you don't have any difficulties at all :)

Eh... I'm not sure. I'm just really starting to doubt that it's my type of game. It's worse, because someone gifted me it. It's kind of disrespectful to just say ' Yeah, the game sucks. Take it back.'

Well, I don't think most people would care. They gave you the item as a gift, it's yours to do what you want with, they shouldn't expect you to love it and put a massive number of hours into it just because it was a gift. Still, I have to recommend you give it a few more shots, but it's up to you.

I really enjoy FTL, but as dkriza says it hasnt got as much content as other rogue-likes. I dont mind that though, as I dont play them often-enough to see all the content anyway.

I quite enjoyed it despite not being the biggest sci fi fan. It's quite hard and a big part of it is RNG, but that's part of the fun for me. Some micromanagement skills are required.

Everyone's bad at roguelikes when they first start out. When you keep at it and don't get discouraged, that's when you get better. Personally, I think it's worth the $2.50 I paid for it.
My advice for FTL: don't pick a fight if you can avoid it. Stick to friendly sectors. Try not to wander around from beacon to beacon when you're in a sector.

Personally I loved it.
Different strokes for different folks, though :)

Yeah, the purchase was definitely worth it.
It's true that the game isn't easy, at least on the normal difficulty, but on the easier difficulty with enough experience and patience I found that every run is win-able. Would recommend playing on normal first, though, to build a good strategy and to get an appreciation for the game.
There's also mods, because why not?
And with the drm-free version, it was nice to share with friends and compare progress and unlocks.
9/10 Would easily reccomend, especially at with all the sales.

I loved it. The Kestrel (starter ship) is actually one of the easiest to run. Or at least I thought so. Try not to rush through a region, try and get as much scrap as you can. One of my most hilarious mistakes was getting all the way to the boss battle and then not being able to touch the blasted thing. Upgrades are a must. I especially love beam weapons, although transporter fights can be quite successful too. If you can get the second set of shields really early on you have a lull of 2-3 regions where almost nothing can touch you. Man the shields, and the engine, man the weapons when you pick up another crew member. Stick with it and it can be a lot of fun. It is very, very hard. It does get easier as you get a better feel for what works and what doesn't work. But it will always be pretty unforgiving and harsh.

Well, it's funny, because I don't know what that is.
No reason why I should, either. I'm asking a rather simple question, and obvious I'm having difficulties. I just thought 'Hey, let's go to the only steam-related forums I know of and ask anyone if they regret getting FTL!'(except I didn't buy it, it was bought for me). If you don't want to at least be polite, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Oh, and take your attitude with you. Or, you know, don't post. At all.
And as far as I know, there's no rules that limit the forums to steamgifts-related only.

His point is that all of the issues you listed are the main features of the entire genre. It's like buying CoD and then saying "Anyone else think it wasn't worth it? I mean, the whole first person aspect is really annoying, and I hate how you shoot enemies with guns."

I know what he meant. It's his attitude. Of course, attitude is hard to detect over the internet, but. it's. the. way. he. typed. it.
It's a no-brainer. I mean, I'm not expecting everyone to be nice, but you could at least be mean in a respectable manner.

Rogue is a game from 1980. Entirely built with ASCII (almost hieroglyphic really.) The goal was get to the bottom of the dungeon, then get all the way back to the top. With the dungeons being randomly generated. Roguelikes are renowned for being very, very hard with an incredibly steep learning curve, have randomly generated levels, and almost always use permadeath (a death wipes all your saves if you are allowed to save in the first place. Normally you can only go forward, that is one save slot per character.) Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is a really good one to recapture the feeling as is Dungeons of Dredmor for the more graphically inclined.

I got FTL gifted to me, and I'm honestly not enjoying it that much. Ignoring the fact that I'm just fucking terrible -FUCKING. TERRIBLE- at it, easy mode still seems pretty hard. I started of with the Zoltan ship and a rebel rigger completely destroyed my ship by setting it on fire and such. I couldn't do anything because, well, the game doesn't start you off with enough power to actually use your weapons effectively, and my whole damn ship was either broken or on fire.
In a rather non-rage comment... I seriously do think this game is very hard. Either I'm unlucky, or I just don't know a secret way to move through sections.
TL;DR I fucking hate FTL because I suck at it. Anyone else having doubts about the game?
