I found a thing. Figured it was worth linking here.

thanks, Uro.
found this xkcd: https://xkcd.com/883/ in a comment saying that "pain is idiosyncratic".
always thought "pain" being something really "personal"...
just tried to think all this "applied to" depressed people... and that, maybe, grading pain is even more difficult (or impossible?) being depression pain more "personal, idiosyncratic"...
yep, my shower (thoughts) is a 24/7 thing :D

I've learnt that depression has helped increase my (physical?) pain tolerance quite a lot.
Fell down? Oh. That happened.
Knee dislocated? Oh. Okay, let's just shift it back.
Maybe it's a bit of disassociation that's causing it to be more numbing..?
But I wish it were the same for emotional pain tolerance though xD

I've heard depression referred to as a kind of lingering mourning sensation, which I think is accurate. Though in terms of its knock-on effect on your other emotional and mental systems, it's more like it drains the colour out of everything, or maybe blows a cold wind through all the gaps you never knew you had. In the case of physical pain, without colour, you find it harder to notice when there's blood.
But yeah wow, ouch, disassociation probably played a big part there. The tiny bonus of being unable to appreciate anything in life :P
Once again reminds me of the Hyperbole and a Half comic on depression, particularly at the end. Also part 2 because yeah.

Especially emotional pain, yeah. A depressed person's "5" on the pain scale could be a normal persons "2". I remember that little epiphany when I I said I had a really good day, but later only realised it was just that my omnipresent sense of dread and gloom had switched off for a few hours.
That's also a big problem when it comes to matters of therapy and counseling. Absolutely everything that a professional has to work on, must first be run through the sufferers personal filter, automatically skewing everything first through their own perception, and then through their distorted degrees of emotion. It's a real tough one. In my case, even now long after the depression itself has subsided and I'm dealing with crazy layers of anxiety and neurosis from totally mishandling it all, there is the extra barrier of not wanting to talk about it through shame, guilt and embarrassment.
Brains and hearts are... weird, to say the least.

I've dealt with depression for over a decade, plus PTSD and some health complications which also make things even worse than what they are. But at least I had people that helped me. Friends, family, and even strangers from support groups that made things easier.
You should NEVER think you are alone, because there's always someone willing to help if you look around you. This might sound cliché but it's real, there are terrible people but there are also extremely kind ones. 💙
Also, if you can and you feel strong enough, please lend a hand to others in need. I've done this for years when I am confident enough that I can take on other people's problems without affecting my health to the point of getting me down.
Remember it's important to help others, but also take care of yourself.
Diagnosed depression isn't a joke (as in diagnosed by a professional and not by the patient, don't confuse it with other symptoms!). It's a serious condition and it shouldn't be taken lightly because it's not a physical illness. Just like cancer ends up with death, depression will escalate to suicide or cripple you in many ways.
Everyone feels "down" once in a while, but for some people it's a daily pattern of depression. The good news is that it is treatable.
Usually through therapy, medication, or a combination of the two. Antidepressant medication, despite some side effects, can help lift a person from the depths of depression within weeks of starting medication therapy.
If one medication doesn't work for you or the side effects are too much for you to live with, keep in mind that there are many others your doctor could give you to try.
Make sure your doctor knows about any other meds you are taking and always ask questions about your medication therapy, if needed.
Btw, DON'T get self-diagnosed, it's a terrible idea. You might be sad or during a grieving period, so always check with a doctor.
Besides, I don't know about other countries but over here antidepressants are only available if you have a medical prescription, so you will only be left with a possibly wrong diagnostic and no way to deal with it.
