Soldiers were always the most annoying and cheapest players in the game. The fact that the TF2 Team bumped the explosive range back in 2008 and kept giving him more annoying weaponry of all kinds past 2010 was just flinch inducing.
I'm glad I stopped playing TF2, it was a danger to both my sanity and my wallet.

Anyhow, is it worth getting into TF2 this late in the game?
Yes.
If so, any tips for a total new player?
Hats! Get all of them!

FYI CorneliousJD: The playerbase doesn't call this a "war-themed hat simulator" for nothing.

My main concern with TF2 was how, before it became F2P, the MannCo store was already there.
I bought the game 20 euros on sale, and I'm pretty sure it was about 30-35 euros when the store appeared, and here the Internet was bitching about this new thing called DLC that made you pay for every slice of the game instead of the whole bulk, all the while Valve was even worse than EA or Activision - at that time -
I'm starting to forget my point, so I'll write it down here: we were supposed to buy a 30 euros game that featured an in-game store which sold keys for real life money to open boxes.

As long as the additional content is purely cosmetic, I have no problem with this. The €30 you spent on the game is for the actual gameplay, the fun shooter game. Anything you buy extra is to satisfy your vanity and/or to support the developers for making a good game.

You see, I don't understand how vanity stuff is any worse then actual content. I know there are a lot of companies who get DLC wrong... well, most companies really. But when DLC offers you additional content without being needed to fully enjoy the game, then what's bad about that? Even if the DLC does expand on the story, if it's not really needed to enjoy it, then I don't understand why people think it's so horrible. The best company to do DLCs, in my opinion, is Bethesda... well, besides the Horse-Armor BS. Mostly the Fallout DLC, which gives you good, new sections of the game for a fairly low price.

What annoys me is a LOT of people will critize companies like EA or anyone really for having DLC, but not care or encourage Valve to put in WAY overpriced items into their game.
I mean, every hat and misc costs at least $5 in the store. Some cost up to $13 for what amounts to nothing really. They charge at least $1, sometimes up to about $5 or even $13 in one case, for a single weapon. And then people get angry when CoD has a $15 map pack with four new levels to play on (which I agree is overly expensive, but still). The excuse is that you don't 'need' these items. I can understand that, but there are a lot of games where you don't NEED the DLC for them. Some with the online passes and such are kinda BS, even though most of them come with those things for free if you buy it new.
Maybe people don't care because there's a chance you can possibly get what you want from drops? Even though there's really no way to actually be sure to get what you want unless you're really lucky or want to get into the trading scene (which isn't a fun place for the most part). It just kind of annoys me because it's a fairly big double-standard in my opinion. Valve has earned a LOT of goodwill, and rightfully so. But that doesn't mean they should be allowed to get away with stuff other companies are shit on for.

But you can still play with people on the original maps. And weapons DO affect you. Namely that, while they are fairly balenced, they do give an advantage to player who can use the special weapons to suit their playstyles. Some people are better with, say, a bazaar bargain then the regular sniper. And some weapons do more damage, though have drawbacks. It's not like they're purely cosmetic for the most part. Hats and misc are of course, but weapons are not.

And Weapons always can be crafted... I never got the problems with obtaining new weapons and stuff I want, and yeah about the maps... while you (for example) Forced to Play only on original maps in COD, you can actually FIND AND DOWNLOAD FOR FREE thousands of free custom made maps for all tastes you want in TF2... or just find some server with such maps...

Let's look into how 'easy' it is to craft a weapon. To craft a random weapon within a certain set, it takes 8 weapons worth of metal and tokens (which crafting tokens are a pain due to having to use specific class or loadout. That gives you a roughly 1 in 3-4 chance of getting what you want depending on the class you chose and the slot you're going after. If you don't get what you want, then you have to start over, which means getting another 8 weapons to craft.
Of course, you can craft specific weapons. But that requires having specific weapons to begin with. Say you want to craft a Sun On A Stick. You have to have 2 reclaimed (equal to 12 random weapons), and then have a boston basher. If you don't have a boston basher to work with, then you can have to have a sandman and a tribalman shiv to craft one. And getting those requires more crafting or lucky drops for the desired item. Which, given how many items are possible, means you'll have to play for weeks to get the weapon you might want unless you get lucky.
And does being more open with maps allow them to have very overpriced content? Being more open with maps and such is nice. I respect them for giving players the chance to support official maps with their stamp thing. But it's not like that instantly allows them to do whatever they want in my opinion. They aren't putting any work into the maps you mention anyways. It's all community driven, and as such they do depend on the maker for quality.
What Valve offers isn't even DLC, everyone HAS to have it in their files. As I said, I do think CoD is the worst example to compare it to since CoD is generally awful for DLC. But that's why I chose it. It seems silly that people whine about a map pack costing $15 when they don't mind or are even happy to pay for valve charging almost that much for a single weapon or pointless item. Not to mention that $100 item as well.
And I'd like to clarify one thing, I don't hate TF2. I think it's a decent game, and being a trader using items through it got me quite a few games. It just annoys me that people are willing to bash companies for making 'overpriced DLC' and worship another which makes even more pointless content that you're forced to have anyways. I don't even think the Mannconomy is really a bad idea at it's heart. Though I do think Valve charges way too much for some things.

WTF? Yes, that would be that difficult as you play the game alone, but with friends, the game getting much easier in all aspects, from getting weapons you want to getting hats, etc, etc. If it wouldn't be like that the game wouldn`t be called TEAM fortress...

That really doesn't address any of the points I brought up. Other then increasing the number of possible things you can get, or if a friend happens to have something you want and doesn't mind giving it to you, then it does work out. But that's a fairly big if. I've had quite a few times where I've needed something and a friend wasn't willing to hand it over, and I couldn't just craft it or trade for it. Plus, not everyone who plays the game has friends who play it. I maybe have 3 or 4 people on my friends list who have many items in TF2, and even they don't play it that much.

As a f2p, trying it won't cost you anything but time.

TF2 is still as fun as ever. As long as I'm playing on my usual servers at least. I can't stand joining a random server through quick match and it is full of obvious F2P people who are oblivious and do the most random things. Just do not play Sniper or Spy and you'll be better off (unless you can actually headshot, but even then there is going to be 4 other retard snipers). If you play Medic and get 100% Ubercharge, most competent players will call Medic when they want you do use it (Right click). Don't be afraid to use it early either.

In my opinion you should try it because it is a fun game with never ending action. Although people say if it is free is not worth playing, but there are good things about this game too. My suggestion just try it if your curious. :)

personally, i do not enjoy tf2 that much...
i'm one of quake tf players... didn't get used to it haha
anyway.. yes, it's really worth it.
If you are lucky you can find hats and trade them off for whatever game you want + a kidnee... those crazy hatless players.. tsk

Played it for a while and rally enjoyed it, especially demoknight. I'm more of a RPG person so I very rarely play it now, but it still is a very good and solid FPS (and accessorily a hat simulator). Now I mostly use the game for trading purposes.

Good game but it's ruined by the community. Try playing objective based games and if you like it play it. It's a good game don't get me wrong, it's just full of douchebags and scammers.

Team Fortress is a team-based game, if you couldn't tell.
Each character has their unique abilities and, if I may add, a comic appearance, as well as their own role in the team. There are several modes and there's even a mode similiar to capture the flag.
Above all other things, it's free now!
Give it a shot, I say.
Tips? Ignore the CoD players whining about how TF2 sucks, as well as people who talk about hats all the time, people whining about F2Prs, etc. and you should be fine. Reading the articles about each class and their roles on TF2 wiki also helps.

I don't play, only time I ever played is when Orange Box came out for 360 at a friends house. I kind of enjoyed Battlefield Heroes and stuff, but just ended up getting bored with how slow you moved in that game, and then hackers started flooding it and I just left.
Anyhow, is it worth getting into TF2 this late in the game? If so, any tips for a total new player? thanks guys.
