So I really don't play games on my phone as much as I used. But Google Play store does have a $2 credit so I figured I may get something, but would also like to hear from the community what your favorites are. May help influence me in making a decision, who knows. Last mobile game I played and really enjoyed was GrandChase FWIW.

Mobile Games, Yay or Nay?

Why play on a phone when you can play on a potato?

Mobile gaming is currently dead to me. I used to play Final Fantasy Brave Exvius a lot. Buy I quit after they made the game even more grindy with the 7* units.

Now I've tried several games: Clash of Clans, Fire Emblem Heroes, Hades Star, Elderscrolls Blades. But they all have issues which prevents me to actually enjoy them.

Dragonball Dokkan Battle
On and Off over the years, but this time, they threw so many items at you for doing your goals that it would otherwise take years to collect.

Most mobile games I've tried have mostly been apps aimed at frustrating player to make them buy cheats, energy, shortcuts, resources etc.
They're either betting on OCD or gambling addiction to make a buck and it would be totally ok if they had any gaming mechanic but usually it's just all about amassing resources to craft things and get more resources and need more resources and so on with no end in sight.

The one game I still have on my phone is Alto's Odyssey because it's very relaxing and cool and not some lootfest buy-nanza.

got alot of games i've enjoyed tbh.
night of the full moon, vampire's fall origin, gumballs and dungeons, hearthstone, GB emulator games, monument valley series, kingdom rush series, monster hunter stories.
i'm sure there are more that i can't think of right now, but these are quite enjoyable, some are quite time sinking and some can be done in couple of hours.

Right now, I am playing Battle Cats.

I dont really play on Phone, since the controls are most times crap.
Galaxy on Fire was okayish
and my absolute favorite: Picross M if you have IOS. Sadly i never found any other picross clone with such smooth controls as Picross M. and i tried out alot of em.
even more sad since picross m is only on ios available.

The Room series is pretty good, but it's on steam.
The Silent Age is a good point and click, but it's also on steam.
Crashlands looks fun (I didn't try it), and it's on steam. It syncs your progress between mobile and desktop versions.
Data Wing, it got a story and it's free.
Spaceteam is fun but needs friends.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius LOVE the main story. Will NOT quit until that's finished or the game shuts down.
Blades of Brim an addicting runner with melee weapons. WHERE IS MY DAMNED LANCE, RNG?!

Star Ocean Anamnesis. It's a 3rd person view, action RPG gacha game that plays like a fighting game. Get good with one character, and you will go far.

I feel that it does a lot of things right, as far as mobile gacha games go --
1) Skill-based - Learn your character's moveset + timings, and learn enemy tendencies too. Attack and dodge well. Get good at dodging and you will be able to tackle the most difficult missions. Dodge is king!

2) Gacha - I find that for an F2P game, SOA is quite generous. Doing daily missions (reasonable to complete for 20-30 minutes/day) + weekly missions can get you roughly ~25,000 gems a month, which is about 5 10-pulls a month. F2P play is perfectly viable, just don't go crazy spending on EVERY limited banner. Popular advice is to roll and spend premium currency to obtain favorite characters (whether from nostalgia, or aesthetics, or playstyle, or whatever), on limited banners, and also on weapon banners (particularly imbue element weapons).

3) Power creep - A rough tier list exists for the game, but practically any character is playable depending on player skill. Particularly skillful players, in fact, hold their own gameplay challenges using the lowest rarity 3* units to do M3 missions (currently the hardest missions in the global version so far). Awakenings have recently been introduced, and will continue to exist in order to put so-called "lower tier" characters in a competitive position to be gameplay viable.

4) Stamina system - Yes, the game is stamina based, but joining multiplayer games is FREE, with no stamina cost... which theoretically means that you can play for hours as long as people are hosting rooms for people to join. Host players get bonus drops after a victory, joining players don't use stamina and get drops after a victory too. It's a win-win.

5) Stamp based communication - Eliminates toxicity but also gives an idea of what other players are thinking.

Collaboration events are a pretty common thing also. So far, there's been a Final Fantasy Brave Exvius collaboration, and multiple Nier: Automata collaborations.

The game currently has a collaboration event with Valkyrie Profile, which will last until the end of the month and into early June. Lenneth, Silmeria, Freya, Arngrim, Hrist have recently been made available.

Star Ocean fans, non-fans, players who like the idea of skill-based gameplay... go forth and give it a try!

I tried Langrisser for a bit, and it's a solid game. In terms of its tactical gameplay, I found it a fare bit better than Fire Emblem (which was very stripped down). But it does get rather grindy, and there are some parts that really makes me cringe, like the dialogue associated with the "bonds" system, which felt like it was aimed squarely at horny teenage boys, while still keeping it PG. (Basically it felt really childish´)

Both Alto games are good, both Badland games are good. 10,000,000 and YMBAB.

Self-promotion.

If you do not mind shooters on mobile, give Shadowgun Legends a go. It's a decent looter-shooter and very F2P friendly. :)
