I have a Phenom 2 955 AMD CPU currently @ 4.0 Ghz.
I want to de-clock it to get better temps, do you think I should? Max temps are 59*C but I don't like it.
Gemme your opinions.

59C at 100% load?

So it's not that high. I wouldn't declock it.

I know it is not high, I just don't feel like I need that OC now.
I do some gaming and recording and rendering but i don't think that 0.6~.8 Ghz will make difference in those
uses. And it will decrease my temps as I'm using Scythe Mugen 3

What the hell is your point then?

Should I de-clock or not?

Check out SuperPI - it calculates PI up to 33 milion digits. Test calculating 1 or 2M and try different frequencies. Then compare temp and results.

so is it already OC?

if you want to use it for a few more years, the lower the temperature the better

Yes, I said it is @4,0 Ghz currently.

59°C is a bit on the high side, specially if you notice that the Phenom2 series temperature sensors are regognizing lower temps as they are in real.

How much volts you need for 4ghz? 1.425v?

Try to lower it.

Many Phenom2's are fine with much lower volts @ 3.7-3.8, nearly same performance but cooler.

Which cooler are you using?

Running Phenom 2 X6 1090t @ 4ghz 1.4v cooled by Thermalright Macho, getting about 50 degrees.

62°C is max Temperature by AMD, doesnt matter though, but i would go lower or get a decent cooler.

I think it is @ 1.43V.
I did not OC it, the company I bought the platform from OC it.
If I do something, it is just declocking. doesn't wanna mess with BIOS.

You can declock it, but it is not going to lower your temperature in a massive amount.
The more voltage your cpu takes, the more heat it produces due to electric waste heat.

Try 3.7ghz @ 1,35v.

Sounds like a showoff topic to me ...

Not at all, I don't have a good pc. its is quite old. But I needed opinions.

Yeah, showoff with an extremely old cpu.
Of course.
If you dont want, or are not able to help - stay away from this thread please.
But stop posting bullshit.

CPUs can handle up to 90°C without a problem... I don't know about AMD CPUs but I would not go over 1.3v with my CPUss

imho just lower clock. you will get lower temps, means more quiet cooler.

youre getting these temps will a clean case and a properly seated heatsink? just the act or reseating it and clearing out all the dust can drop your temps a fair bit.

If you set the CPU at the normal clock then you will be to able to restore the overclock configuration if needed, that is the problem? If you can restore it, then just try. You surely get temperature lower, but especially you save money due to energy saving features of your CPU.
