Totally different issue where the whole account is locked because of reselling games.

Well...what about giveaways ? Looks like we can't do that because they can't make the difference between reselling and giving away.

Where does it say that? Resellers advertise on trading forums etc making them quite easy to track. Meanwhile you can for example link your SG profile on your Steam and make it quite easy to spot stuff given away here.

I really doubt Steam do that kind of research before limiting accounts because theyr conclusion might be wrong. There are too many giveaway sites..even offline giveaways.

They aren't limiting accounts, they are locking them forever with no chance of parole. So my guess would be that yes they really need some proof for it. There aren't very many giveaway sites for actual Steam gifts, most are about keys and giveaways done by people with 100/1000s of keys. But if someone's account gets flagged automatically for constantly friending someone random, gifting them 1 or more very expensive games and then unfriending, it doesn't take much of a Sherlock to google them out and find the threads where they are selling Steam gifts for real money or other stuff. I could of course be wrong as well but I'm not going to live in fear of that and will keep giving gifts when I want.

The problem is that they don't need a proof of it. Since it's their platform..they could make decision based on guesses and it will be final because of politics. Same story with paypal and other big monopol institutions. Only chance we have is to take it to court..but who does that.

So you imagine random Steam support worker wouldn't get fired for just banning accounts left and right for no reason? They could murder you in your sleep if you stop sending gifts as well if we're making wild guesses about what could happen in theory. But until we see some proof of it actually happening, it doesn't make any sense to fear what has never happened yet. Have you seen any threads here about people getting locked out of their accounts for sending too many gifts for example? Meanwhile there have been tons of resellers etc banned for abusing Steam for profit, which is against their TOS. Sending gifts to friends is not. Of course everyone of them cry out on Reddit etc that they did nothing wrong but so does every criminal ever who got caught.

Regarding the banning for gifting games - If steam goes into similar way humble goes regarding this, then no, they dont need proof.
Humble is partners with steamgifts, but even they dont care and ban you for repeatedly gifting games (I dont know about recently but there where number of threads about people getting locked out of humble accounts for that). And humble does that automatically - they dont care if you are doing it on steamgifts even while being partners.

I highly doubt steam would look into any detail regarding what site you use.

That is hypothetical for now. But if they are going to ban accounts who repeatedly gift games - I bet they wont put into resources for checking out into detail - they will just ban you

Yes and if they go the same way as ISIS, they will come bomb you down for not gifting. If they go the same way as nazis, they will put you in concentration camps. Does it make sense to worry about these imagined ways they can go? Of course not.

Why does everyone assume that they are banning accounts that gift games? Has it happened here? No. Who have they banned? Some actual resellers and others abusing Steam for commercial profit. With what kind of logic does this lead to them banning all accounts gifting games?

And hypothetically if they are going to nuke the whole world they aren't going to check if you gifted games or not. So everyone will die of the radiation regardless so it's perfectly safe to keep gifting.

So at least get some huge gifter from here banned before making paranoid conspiracy theories please.

paranoid conspiracy theories ? Take a chill pill

I just answered your question whether there have been threads about accounts being banned for gifting games. I pointed out that - yes, there have been such cases on humble.
And I doubt steam support would do any different. Of course no one is getting banned, and probably wont. But Im not the one getting crazy here over it.

Humble accounts being banned (or rather stopped given support like replacing keys) for gifting Humble gifts has still nothing at all to do with Steam accounts being banned for gifting Steam gifts. I was asking if there have been threads on SteamGifts (the site we are on) about Steam accounts being banned for gifting Steam gifts (the topic). Since there are none even with the thousands of users here who have and are gifting a lot, assuming Steam will ban everyone who has ever gifted too many games is exactly that, a paranoid conspiracy theory.

Why do you doubt things that aren't happening? Do you often worry about nonexistent things that there is no proof for? If you say of course no one is getting banned why make "but what if?" scenarios? What if they started banning everyone who isn't gifting at least $100 worth a year? That sounds much better for their profits.

They are already banning accounts that are abusing for commercial profit, there's proof of that. Why would this ever lead to them banning everyone who isn't abusing for commercial profit when there is no proof of that?

It's not me who needs to take a chill pill, it's the ones who are trying to spread panic without any reason that everyone will get banned IF they just start banning everyone. I'll rather focus on things that are actually happening. Quoted from the Reddit:

How is this a PSA? "Guys if you use the gifting system for 3rd party selling, steam will get pissed and block your account". Like no shit?

Dong get me wrong - of course there is no point in going around and telling something thats not going on.. Namely getting banned for gifting..
As long as discussion is going on I just wanted to point out that similar thing that shouldnt have happened did in fact happen with humble. And I wouldnt be surprised if it would repeat. Even if it is unrelated to this specific situation

Im not arguing about correctness of what you are saying - I agree with all of that. ;)

Humble was supposed to be a charitable organization giving cheap bundles and helping people. What really shouldn't have happened was it being sold to greedy capitalists so we can just blame everything on IGN like usual. But I can't imagine Gaben selling Steam to anyone greedier any time soon.

And I just love making silly exaggerations to illustrate points. :)

I've had same problem buying things for myself several times earlier, so it's probably just Steam as usual.

Yes I did, try using both client and browser, that usually helps. Once during a sale I couldn't buy anything with browser for several days and that got fixed by clearing all cookies. But usually just waiting a while fixes it, but it could be from minutes to days.

Well, that's a lucky friend I guess.
It's probably a temporarily thing, Steam sometimes have those types of problems.

1: Such purchase errors can happen because of temporary technical issues.

2: It happens always too when you trying to pay with a payment method which already used on two other accounts within 30days. For example, if I buy something on my steam account on 2nd August with my PayPal, then I try again to upload some money to the account of the kid of my brother via the same Paypal on 3rd August, then I can't pay with that same PayPal again on the account of my little sister until at least 30days elapsed.

This is actually my own experience as I did set up an account for the 2 kids of my bro and my sister at the same time and I tried to add money via the same Paypal every single time on those accounts (yes, I know, gifting wallet exists but that not unlock community features, so needed do the payment on those accounts at the first time) and it not worked for the third account, only after 31days.

3: I get errors too when I try to purchase on a browser and not on the client as I made all my past purchases via the client so far. No clue why this happening, but perhaps it was just server errors every time I tried through a browser.

Gifting wallet through Steam doesn't unlock them? Buying a $5 wallet card/code does tho. Or is it that you can't gift wallet to limited account.

I've also had problems with the client while things work normally on browser, that's why it's always best to try both. And I'm mainly using Steam wallet balance so can't hardly be a payment method issue for me. Try clearing all Steam related cookies to see if it fixed the problem for you like it did for me.

nope, buying a gift card and activate it unlocks but if you gift wallet through a steam client that not unlock community feature and badge levels. (gift cards not really available in my country or never find any store which selling them, but as it cost more than the activated value wouldn't be a good idea to buy it anyway)

You get the same value you pay if you buy from an official store like Gamestop here, it's the online resellers that take their own cut because they are getting them from the stores, not Steam directly. Seems like there are none in Hungary tho. Good thing you didn't get locked out from buying Steam games during a sale or anything. :)

Try using your CC to gift the games. I have some game reseller in my country which have this issue too. They tried to use CC to do the payment and it worked.
