Got some friends coming over for the weekend, gonna eat some junk food, swear loudly, and play games before going to bed at a reasonable hour and waking up to a healthy, balanced breakfast.

But we need some help with the "games" part. Earlier tonight, I grabbed a handful of Humble Paradox Bundles, so we'll probably do some Showdown Effect, Magicka, and/or Dungeonland. Everyone has a copy of The Ship, Plain Sight, and Awesomenauts. I'll be hooking up Jamestown and Castle Crashers to the big TV at some point. What else have you folks got?

Bonus points if the game is cheap, F2P, or on sale somewhere right now.

(Allan, please add rant about Saints Row 3 only allowing two players at once)

  • The Showdown Effect
  • Magicka
  • Dungeonland
  • The Ship
  • Plain Sight
  • Awesomenauts
  • Jamestown
  • Castle Crashers
  • Wanderlust Rebirth
  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • Monaco
  • Spelunky
  • Burnout Paradise
  • Garry's Mod (TTT, other)
  • Unreal Tournament
  • Artemis Bridge Simulator

My favorite game I have ever played with friends is Star Wars Battlefront II... It has AI in it so you won't just be killing each other...

I had some friends come over last Friday and we played Garry's Mod for a little, and you can just add in whatever mods you want and play LAN... And it's $2.50 right now...

Company of Heroes and Dawn of War (the original ones) make great LAN games.

I'm one of the (apparently) demented few who really didn't like that game.

God Mode, Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, Terraria (excellent game for a LAN), Left 4 Dead 1&2, Killing Floor,
i really enjoy Nuclear Dawn. there isnt a huge community that plays it but its alot of fun.

if Terraria doesnt interest you then there is also Edge Of Space, which is a space type version of it.

my LAN party out where i live, is coming up soon, so thanks for reminding me. i also need to grab up some games before Vector LAN starts.

a game that is popular at the LAN party that i attend is called Artemis.
its a Space Simulator game where each person has a certain task in controlling the ship. So the captain will look over your monitors & call out what needs to be done by what person in order to attack & control the ship. its not on Steam. but it looks like alot of fun. ive never played it but i have seen it being played at the LAN event that i attend. everyone seems to have a damn good time playing it. anyways, heres the link: http://www.artemis.eochu.com/

Whaaaaat? I've been wanting to play Artemis forever. Just never get around to it. Don't have enough monitors, although this will be one of the rare occasions we have enough players.

That's a tough call. You've put me in a real pickle here.

If it's any UT, it's gotta be UT2003 if you can do non-steam. That's one of the better versions.

I'm surprised nobody here mentioned Warframe, it's surprisingly good!

Why do I not see Counter-Strike 1.6 or Source on your list anywhere? List is invalid until you remove all others and add either/both of them. Other acceptable options include Call of Duty 1/UO/2/4, Quake 3/Live, Doom 2/3, Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, and Unreal Tournament may stay on your list. And I'm claiming two sets of bonus points since Quake Live and Wolfenstein Enemy Territory are free.

Counter-Strike: Source, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Also while you have the problem finding games to play, I have the problem of not having any friends to play with:(

I believe all 3 of these are free (may require a Source game):

  • Team Fortress 2
  • Golden Eye Source
  • The Hidden

We usually setup our own private LAN servers for these games and play them almost exclusively at every LAN party we have
