when i enter the (magicka) key into steam it says something about not being available in my region? bleh, is that it then?

I thought I read something about keys for Magicka from CD-Action magazine? If that's what it was then it's likely region-locked to Poland. You're not supposed to make giveaways with region-locked keys for this exact reason.

Yea contact them and see if they will work with you to provide a working copy of the game, otherwise report to the staff that it is region-locked and mark as not received.

Why do you make this assumption? The staff will do whatever they feel is appropriate, which is most likely just deleting the giveaway in question for a first time offense.

Well if that's the case and someone has a problem with it then I would say take it up with the staff then, no? No one should have to hesitate reporting someone for a rule violation because of what the potential end consequences might be. That's a staff decision-making issue, not a rule problem. If it doesn't seem fair then it's on them for not having a better system and/or policy in place.

Polish magazine CD-Action just appeared in stores, key is region restricted to Poland only. If you got your from someone from Poland you have like 95% chance you will never see your Magicka...

Most probably it's from CD-Action (polish gaming magazine), cause there was Magicka in recent volume. And yes, games they provided are region restricted.

emailed the guy. tbh i feel slightly ridiculous reporting a guy for not giving me something for free "properly" when he probably made an easy mistake. i can't tick "gift not received" for some reason. so it seems either i report him or i'm the one who gets potentially reported by someone/banned for having won a game but not having it in my steam library, correct?

You can't tick it because there is 7 day period to give the gift to the winner. He has a week to correct his mistake if he is willing to do so. No need to report him for now.

That is why you don't give away keys unless you are certain they are unclaimed and they are not region locked.

Man, I feel for ya.
I would have bought you the game, but I have to watch my money output due to Bioshock Infinite.

But if it had been on sale, I'd bought it in a heartbeat.

What's worst punishment not received or a report for region restriction key, wich probably will make the giveaway deleted so no not received.
In my case I mailed and sent messages to creator explaining the problem and showing the fail redeeming the key. I even showed him two sites with 80% sales on the game and also offered him to send me the money that cost me to get the game on those sites... No success.
