I have faith in you, smythe! :) Like others have mentioned, don't drink your calories or use the scale as a measurement for health. I also find that an easy way to feel accountable is to simply tell someone else what you intend to do, since it's far too easy to break promises to yourself if you're the only one who knows about them. :P

Oh, and if you want to be good but still give in to those chocolate cravings, grab some (unsweetened) cocoa or cacao powder and make some chocolate nice cream ;)

Chocolate was my Achilles heel, got me diabetic but it seems like a family trait though. My Grandma, Aunt all have weakness to chocs hahaha. Then one of my uncles also had diabetes. I still love chocs just dont eat them often now, also controlling my weight like you, I'm not overweight, I'm thin but all them fats concentrate on the tummy and bottoms. I sit infront of the PC alot so . . . What motivated me to workout is wearing an old jeans I used to fit in but cant anymore, a good pair too. Hope you get to the goal you set. :D Cheers and Great Workout!

It's good that you seem to have it under control, hopefully you can avoid diabetes. One of my grandparents had diabetes, but I don't think any other relative does.
It's good to have a very clear and visible goal like the jeans. Good luck getting back into them! :)

I think my main motivation is my Grandma, she had to saw off both her legs one after another due to diabetes since if you're diabetic once you get an open wound you're easy to get infection and which results in removing her limbs. I was very small then, I was about 3yrs old but I slightly remember her in her wheelchair moaning and groaning before she left.
It just happens I had a body checkup and was diagnosed diabetic. I did not receive any treatment because I understand my diet and lifestyle matters most so from then on I just stop eating that much sweet stuff. I stopped drinking sodas at an early age and I know at one point I ate too much Chocs. I'll pick the chocolate jam and dunk anything into it or spread it on food. XD Good O'l days~

While sweets made with refined sugar are unhealthy, it seems that saturated fat intake is the true culprit behind insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.

That is interesting to know. My mum has hypertension so we had started to control diet for awhile. Couple of years ago, I managed to convince my parents to switch to more grain products and coarse rice. Its still ideal since both my mum and I still eat tidbits like potato chips though not as often. Thank you for the info. :)

yes, you're totally right! plus, most dark chocolate doesn't even contain lactose.. and it has lots of health benefits (that for instance white "chocolate" doesn't have)!

You should join in. Even though it's via the internet, it's always easier to get into exercise with other people.
Maybe we should have some kind of workout / health based SG group

It's going well. Felt like some a few times, but resisted! Still eating reduced sugar biscuits and ice cream ever now and then, but those are future battles :)

I guess most people already have the game, or my sgtools settings are too strict. Only 2 entries for Fallout NV so far!

Despite snacking a bit more on holiday and not working out much, I think I've lost a little more weight.
Not been to the gym to use the same scales, so haven't double checked yet

After a month or so away, I've finally got back into the gym again and feeling better for going regularly. Despite this, I've not lost any weight because I'm still eating a lot of bad food. In the past, I've had periods of being very strict with what I ate and saw/felt a lot of good results. I want to try and shift back towards that, but it's difficult to change. So, I had an idea...
I've always found that it's easier for me to change my habits when I am somehow accountable – if I go to the gym with a friend I'm less likely to skip a session because I'd be letting them down. If I'm paying for some kind of lessons, I'm more likely to study because I'd feel like I was wasting money if I didn't, etc.
So, my idea is, I'll set a goal and if I cheat I'll make giveaways. I'm not going to go crazy and try and change everything at once.
Stage 1 - Chocolate
I started with my biggest vice...chocolate! As of 25th June, when I thought of this, I kept track of chocolate I bought. When I bought chocolate I contributed the same amount of money I spent on the chocolate to spend on giveaways.
Stage 2 - Snacks
After two weeks with no chocolate I added more limitations on snacks - no more than 200 calories a day on snacks between meals. Started on 13th August.
Closed Giveaways some basic SGTools rules and anti-bot measures in place

Update 1
A lot of nice comments, I expected more people to suggest I eat more so that they'd get giveaways!
To clarify, I'm not seriously overweight. My aim is to get back to the kind of shape I've had that I know I can reach while still being healthy. As others have mentioned in comments, muscle weighs more than fat, so body weight alone isn't the best way to measure progress. I know the visible changes to my body when I have a lower fat percentage and I'm aiming to get back to that.
Update 2
A month or so on and I've made decent progress. I can see some change and happy with my progress. I use a body fat measurement scale at the gym every now and then to see how I'm going. The numbers aren't super reliable, but it gives me a rough of idea of what's going on. Image below - about 2kg lighter, body fat is down and muscle has increased.
Much later update
Jan 2020 - I haven't been updating this post and I'm not gonna bump it, so I doubt anyone will check this but...another update photo below. I'm about 5 kg lighter than when I first posted. I've actually been lighter than this, but this is a weight I've stagnated at. I'd need to make bigger changes if I was gonna drop any further, I think.
Photo lists estimated figures for (top > bottom) weight, body fat %, fat weight in kg, lean mass in kg, muscle in kg, water in body(?) in kg, bone in kg
