I really liked him, I thought he's always done a good job in all the movies I can remember seeing him in (I just recently watched Golden Gun for the first time since I was a kid, never realized he was the villain in that!)

Also the guy was acting all the way into his 90s and enjoying it, that's pretty awesome.

Damn, and I watched The Last Unicorn again just a few days ago. May Sir Christopher Lee see many unicorns wherever the afterlife takes him.

Damn shame. That's the problem with getting older. All the people you knew or watched die eventually.

"I've seen many men die right in front of me - so many in fact that I've become almost hardened to it. Having seen the worst that human beings can do to each other, the results of torture, mutilation and seeing someone blown to pieces by a bomb, you develop a kind of shell. But you had to. You had to. Otherwise we would never have won."

-Christopher Lee, discussing his service in World War II

I think that one of the reasons he was so affecting as Saruman is because he deeply understood where Tolkien was coming from, both being survivors of horrific wars, but both equally certain that their time spent behind the lines was of terrific import.

One of my favorite music groups for years has been The Tolkien Ensemble, folk artists dedicated to performing every poem, piece of music ,limerick, etcJRRT ever wrote. Sir Christopher joined them on at least one record, here's one great song that really showcases his brilliant bass voiceTreebeard's Song
