I wonder how someone can not already own Skyrim in 2016, though.

I don't enjoy medieval-like RPGs, but prefer modern times RPG.

Combination of backlog and self restraint I guess. I was lacking the latter but now I'll get SE for free so I'm not going to complain.

I already have LE but I think Bethesda is wrong as well, they cound at least had given it for free for everyone who bought it before the announcement and keeping the discount for LE as usual.

from 6Euro to 10Euro isnt that much... but from 7.5 Euros to 25Euros it kinda is. I would've bought the game if it was around 16Euros...but 25Euros is pretty much a lot for a game that i could just "pi*%te"

I couldn't see how much Skyrim was, since I already own it. It's not about the money, it's about the principal. At least Skyrim is getting a definite edition (which still doesn't justify it, but at least it's understandable), SR IV has no reason.
Comment has been collapsed.
it is about the money for me. Money are something i dont really have.
Comment has been collapsed.
You can buy Saint Row IV for 3.74€ and then the Saints Row IV Game of the Century Upgrade Pack for only 2.49€, making it only 6.23€.

the special edition is bullshit. You do realize there are mods that make the game even better than their upcoming version right?
Comment has been collapsed.
i didnt say it wasn't i simply stated that there is higher demand for the game right now because people want to buy it for the remastered edition i have had the game for years now on multiple platforms and have played it with mods, none of this matters im simply stating why the price of the game wasn't as cheep this time around:)
if you had a extra game in your inventory and had loads of people willing to pay you $30 for it, would you turn around and sell it to some stranger for $10? these guys run a business so ofc they are not going to sell something for less then they can easily get, maybe wait til next year after the newness of the new edition is over to buy it?
Comment has been collapsed.
Having played the game with over 200+ mods installed I will be more than happy to have the special edition since it will jump to a 64-bit engine and remove the 3.2 GB memory ceiling.
BTW, Bethesda is promoting the special edition as being fully compatible with existing mods as a selling point.
The console versions offer the most benefit in the remaster because they will have in-game mod support now.

The reason the sale isn't as cheap is because all people who own the legendary edition before october will get the Special Edition (which was announced at e3) for free. To avoid people from just getting it dirt cheap just a few months before the promotion (and probably after they heard about the upgrade) they changed the discount for the summer sale and got rid of the bundle.
That's what I figured anyways. It still might go on a midweek madness sale before then after the summer sale.
Comment has been collapsed.
midweek madness sale... The thing is , if they didnt lower the game price on the Steam Summer Sale, why would they lower it any other time? Steam summer sale is something special, or at least it used to be.

out of stock, also willing to spend only steam money.
Comment has been collapsed.
you do know you can ALWAYS get games cheaper on other sites? Steam used to have good sales until every other games site on the internet ever realised they can jump on the bandwagon. anyway im sure you have your reasons, card and item sales etc, and im not going to criticise you for that, not everybody has the disposable income to shop where they would like to in the current finacial climate, god knows i struggle myself.

It still sells well for $10. Why would they lose $5?
Comment has been collapsed.
Save your money, it's not all it's hyped up to be. I know I've got hundreds of hours, but I have yet to actually finish the damn thing because I get bored with it. Half of that time is testing out mods to make it better, but no mod can make up for the bad RPG mechanics, boring quests and dialog.

I cant really afford all the steam store... i have only a few gold... I need to kill more bandits and sell their iron armors.

WTF? I can't even buy the LE. It says I own everything already.

OP is just sour that he couldn't scam his way into the SE with the LE. Also, GJ breaking your headphones.

"he couldn't scam his way into the SE with the LE"....
uhm... you do realize there are mods that make the game just better than their promised Special edition right?

:( This is why people buy only the base game then download pirated DLCs

i already bought it on steam... fcking Bethesda...

yah a lot of people apparently. They get achievements from DLCs they dont own tho. They should get banned normally, but they arent...
They're doing the same for Fallout games.

Bethesda puts Fallout 4 for 50% off. It was tempting, but I slapped my right hand from clicking the buy button. Bethesda is so cruel. T_T

As others have said, the special edition comes out soon. Which is quite a big deal, actually. If you plan to mod the game, then it looks like they'll remove some of the memory limitations, meaning that modded special edition > modded normal edition. And doing engine overhauls is not exactly free, they need to fund it somehow. The other option would be to not give people who bought all the things a "free" upgrade, but as someone who loves to mod my games, I much prefer this way.
In the end, it's simple economics. Companies will sell games (and anything else, for that matter) at the price where they think they'll be able to make the greatest profit. It's greedy in the same way as the price for milk in your local store is "greedy".
Comment has been collapsed.
yah, but the thing is this update comes in late octomber-early november. 4-5 months since they announced this. Eh... whatever i already bought it. "Memory limitations"... i know a few things about them, but still, i have over 100 mods installed and there's no problem here. I may not have 2k Textures and other heavy stuff, but still got 100 mods without a problem.

Since Steam alongside publishers changed their pricing scheme and are trying to crook us with countless remakes and special, ultra, GOTY, enhanced, definitive, HD, remaster versions at FULL price YEARS after it was released, I decided to go back to piracy.
It's going to get worse than ever especially with streaming, so we have to find a new way to pirate.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's just common market sense. Publishers are allowed to set the prices they want, if they think a game is going to sell well at a higher price, they will, and if there's something that draws extra attention to a game, like the upcoming special edition, they know that they can get away with charging more. We still have more deep discounts this sale than any previous sale, it's been going up with every sale since they started (just look at the threads on reddit and such that lists the sales and you'll easily see a trend towards steeper and steeper discounts).Bethesda have realized that most of their products have a long life and thus they don't need to go overboard with the discounts, unlike companies that make games that only sell well for a year or so. Activision are the same, though they realized it earlier (and their discounts are probably also lower because they don't want people to wait for a discount on their newer games, as that would hurt their yearly release-plan where they need to get people over from one game to another fast).

It's a little more subtle then that: Ultra-capitalism and neo-liberalism dictate that if they have to kill you for profit, and even if it leads them to self-destruction, they have to make money at all cost.
This is the counter-productive logic here (of course not that extreme, it's not the same stakes): of course if they ged rid of piracy which has existed has far as the first vinyl bootleg, thus having to officious competition, AND if it gets dematerialised to nobody has access to a copy, it would make sense market wise to have ultra-high prices, that never go down, and barely get discounted.
But the truth is that on the mid-term or even short-term, people having limited income, will first spend the same money (they did magically get more) on less games thus bringing money to less publishers, quickly (and we are at this step now) people will then spend less money overall thus publisher will sell less games, then people will simply stop buying game and try to either go to piracy, or give up on consuming video-games. This has happened with music, with cinema, and will soon happen to TV series and video games.
Everybody loses but if on the short terms it fits the logic of "screw the people out of their money the more you can even if it means lower sales overall and on the longer term" then yes of course publisher will adopt it, which doesn't mean it's common sense, just market sense.

There are several points that needs to be addressed here.
Does increased prices increase piracy? That's a very hard question to answer, as getting numbers on piracy is really hard. We know that piracy was rampant back when you could buy cassette tapes with games on for 2-4€. These super cheap games still got pirated.
Second of all, yes, people have limited money. But companies are not operating in some form of symbiosis, they want your money, they don't care if their competitors get any money. Does it hurt the market if Bethesda makes 10€ and Activision makes 0€ if the alternative would have been a 5€/5€ split? Not really, as long as enough actors can remain on the market.
quickly (and we are at this step now) people will then spend less money overall thus publisher will sell less games
This is incorrect. Sales are up by about 11% from last year, which was up by about 11% from the year prior. PC as a platform generates more revenue than the consoles. So obviously what they currently are doing is the "right" thing when it comes to revenue.
it would make sense market wise to have ultra-high prices,
No, it would not. Games are not the only form of entertainment. If it was, and there were only a few actors on the market, then yes, it would make sense to have higher prices, but that's not what the market looks like, games don't only need to compete with other games, but with other forms of entertainment.
Everybody loses but if on the short terms it fits the logic of "screw the people out of their money the more you can even if it means lower sales overall and on the longer term" then yes of course publisher will adopt it, which doesn't mean it's common sense, just market sense.
If you look at the sales trends on steam, then companies go for higher and higher discounts with each sale. 2-3 years ago, 85% off was considered massive, now it's not something we really raise an eyebrow to if it happens. So you're talking about a theoretical scenario that's not really happening. The LE for Skyrim is a blip, and anomaly, there's a clear and obvious reason for why they're selling it at a higher price, because there is renewed interest in the series. This also trickles down to other Elder Scrolls title, that get a boost. They don't need steep discounts to sell a lot of copies. Had there not been a boost like this, then the discount would probably be higher.
There's psychology at play here. Not only do we already have a lot of the slightly older games that we want and that generally go on steep discounts (so we don't notice those, despite them being there), but we've also got so used to steep discounts that what was considered a steep discount 4 years ago (75%) and which got us all excited don't get us excited anymore. We don't get that endorphin kick from buying a 75% off game, because we are, in our minds, not making a killer deal.
Valve also got rid of some of the less consumer friendly practices that would artificially make us get these endorphin kicks. Flash sales were a great way of making us feel like we were getting a better deal than we actually got, it tricked our brains into thinking that we were dealing with something that was in limited supply. With the current slower sale, we have time to consider our purchases more carefully, and that makes the discount seem worse than they were back when we had flash sales. They're not, the numbers don't lie, they are just as good or better, we're just not getting tricked into thinking that they are great.

i always read the french article "le" and start stereotyping about an angry frenchman ranting and throwing his basque cap to the ground... sry xD
but that trend of revisited editions and capitalizing on mods is a worrying one, just like the journey DLC took us on IMO. and increasing prices while being on sale is and always was a cheap one (no pun?).
