This is fantastic of them thats for sure. When I first heard about it I figured it would be some sort of deal similar to the free weekend thing they do sometimes.

So this is why I've gotten such a strange assortment of errors on Steam today.

So many people are making new accounts and getting L4D2 for free to sell them/drop cards that they broke the website :D

What idiot at Valve decided it was a good idea to make L4D2 a forced download in order to add it to an account? I bet the majority of the people downloading it right now have no idea they can cancel the process and finish it later. Good luck to the rest of us trying to get into Steam today.

I find it very unpleasant for people who already owns it. It's like "hey dudes it's christmas ! it's fantastic ! we give L4D2 to people who don't own it yet ! and you guys who have already bought it, you can go screw youself ! no christmas for you ! no gift ! ..!.. ..!.. !"

I like the fact that Valve donates this great game to all of usl very nice Christmas spirit. :-)

The timing however could have been better, as many customers wanted to open their presents today and/or use their gift cards. This aside from today's Holiday sales. Knowing Steam is already having trouble during the regular daily peaks and their experience with the overloaded server, the choice for this date surprises me. The 27 Dec or 2 Jan would have been better I think.

Nevertheless I hope I will be able to subscribe for a copy of L4D2 today. Hopefully they'll suspend new account creation for a few hours or limit this gift to active existing accounts only.

EDIT: just as I typed this, the Steam Store is back in business! :-D

Think about the games that are "free2play" for a specific weekend ( like Sonic all stars racing recently ). They appear and disappear from your library as they please. So do yourself a favor and install it. It is a great game, and worth every second/minute/hour it takes for the download. Don't miss the chance.

also, do i need to download the whole game coz its in my library, and no way its going to finish downloading before 10am pst with my crappy internet speed :(
