It seems so obvious but there are probably a lot of trades that aren't happening that could be because people are no longer checking the site.

If not there should be. I'd say this is the biggest missing feature

There is. You just visit the website, check up on the top right corner next to your account menu, and bam, you have the notifications.
You're welcome.

If it is not accompanied by a consultant's advice to evaluate whether the trade offer is worthing it, it is not good enough.

Maybe IFTTT can help? It would work if there was a RSS feed, I'm not entirely familiar with setting it up without RSS. Just a guess, I know it works for the trading platform Barter.vg but this is because there's a RSS atom available :)

Yes, there is a way, for instance you could use https://www.changedetection.com/ and point it at your http://www.steamgifts.com/messages page, or at the trade page of your choice.

This website will watch the page(s) you selected and send you an email when a change occurred. I've used it long ago, I can't remember exactly for what, but I think it was to check for a price change on some online store.

edit : there are probably other ways to do it. I can think of several other solutions but they don't involve sending you an email, they just give you notifications in your browser.

ifttt works pretty well for barter.vg, sometimes with a delay of a few hours. But barter has RSS and I think SteamGifts does not. If anyone knows of a way to use ifttt with SG for trades, please reply.

I'm trying changedetection.com suggested by DavidSarif in this thread. But it only checks the page one time a day.

The few other similar free sites I looked into also only email once a day.

If anyone wants an update on how changedetection worked, just reply and I'll see it someday :)

Looks like typical change detection sites are useless because of changes like commenter feedback (+17 becomes +18), the page ageing (1 week ago becomes 2 weeks ago), time for the page to load (page generated in .024 seconds), etc.

Maybe there's a way to instead just notice a change in the number of times your userid appears in https://www.steamgifts.com/user/gorthic/trades

Should be 6 if you're the last one to comment or bump, and fewer if someone else added a comment. Anyone know how to get an email when that changes?

This request is more important now that SG and ST are separate again.

If it's not practical to add an RSS page or an email feature, then it would be helpful to just have a simple page like https://www.steamtrades.com/trades/search?user=76561198245147786 but with most of the page removed so the only thing that changes is the usernames. For example, the page wouldn't show "1 day ago". Then that page could be used with a change detection service, as DavidSarif suggests above.
