Hi Pkeod, not a question but I'm saying thanks for being in the community. I'm not a big fan of solitaire but I bought a copy to give out to help support you.

Firstly thanks for taking your time to answer questions from this community :)
Now for my question :D
My friends and I are currently working on a project with CryEngine 3 SDK and I'm going to be the game designer on this project and will be doing little to no programming, I'd still like to contribute more with the programming side of things and I'd like to be able to implement my own scripts and such. What programs would you suggest for one such as I to hone my skills in programming. (C++,C#,Java,HTML or anything would be useful).
Thanks again :)

Hello, I have multiple Questions:

What is your name?

What is your quest?

What is your favorite color?

Also: what was your inspiration to go into game design?

Brian.

To be the very best like no one ever was.

Green.

Games are really great. They mix so many types of creation and art together.

How do you keep yourself focused on a project?
Also, about how much time do you spend reflecting on what you've done ("testing" a cool new feature that's really fun or looking at how well your own art works inside the game, as examples) versus continuing development?

I have a vision for a project and I try to keep getting closer to that vision. I use ProcrastiTracker so that I can see how well I am doing. Usually if Photoshop is open the most I'm making good progress.

When I'm not working my mind is working. Usually there are no accidents with development for me any more. I know exactly what I want and make exactly that. I always try to do final art first time - or at least art that could pass as final. I do come back to some art later but still... try to finish something and then move on always.

Hello. I'm from Brazil, i have 17y and i really like the idea of making games. The problem is: there isn't any place that i can learn this, it all depends on me. So i was reading your thread and thought: "Why dont i ask him where is the best place to start". I know there is a lot of content on the internet, but i was reading that you learned by yourself and thought that you could give some "tips". I practically dont know anything about programing (I mean, if i look at something I can understand 20~40% and maybe modify something but i cant do from 0), so i need to start from scratch. What do I need to learn first ? (Sorry for any grammar mistakes :/)

And i want to Congratulate you from doing this. ^^
I'm very interested in your game. Just waiting for my International Credit Card, i will lose the Holiday Offer tho. :/

Yes, it all depends on you, but at least you have access to the Internet. With school you have many obligations which add to your total work requirements, and you end up working on many things which I feel do not actually contribute to what you need to know to make games (How many classes did I take just for credit requirements? Too many!). I feel the most important thing with learning game development is to make mistakes and learn from your mistakes, and never give up. Why do you want to make games? Is it because you want to make money? There are better ways to make money. Do you want to be famous? It's unlikely you will ever become famous. Do you love games? Then possibly you could do this. Make the games you want to play. You still have to be smart about it. Like doing market research and trying to figure out what sort of games many people would actually be interested in, and sometimes you'll have to just work on stuff you don't want to work on, but mostly to survive you need to love it and love the game you make. That's how I feel. I could not imagine doing anything but making things. I kind of feel sorry for people who are not creative, because their lives are probably boring.

Making games is NOT for everyone. For every person who makes it there are 10,000 who give up.

All you need to know to make games like I make is: http://www.monkeycoder.co.nz/

This could be learned by anyone in one single week. The demo version allows you to compile functional HTML5 builds so for learning you do not even need to purchase anything.

I just wanted to say: thank you for this addicting game! :) With all the games (even big ones like L.A. Noire) I bought at this year's holiday sales this is the one I eneded playing all night. At first I wasn't sure if a simple looking cardgame would bore me after a couple of levels, but it's so much fun, relaxing and I am sure I will play through the whole story. Great work on the details.

The year is nearly over so I would like to know: What are your favorite games of 2011? Beside your own ones ;).

Dark Souls is my game of the year. Nothing else released this year comes close to it for me. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD was enjoyable, though I wish for a MH made explicitly for modern hardware released in English. I also wish games like these were released on PC, but at least they are being made.
